  • Classic Jim Rockford.

  • Look Roch Voisine, lol, tabarnak !

  • one of the greatest scenes in a series that had many of them. LMMFAO !

  • Another good part got cut off. Rockford said to him as a victory speech, "You know what's wrong with karate Jerry? It's based on the ridiculous assumption that the other guy will fight fair."

  • smooth

  • @ TheClam88: no disrespect was intended toward William Smith, I simply found the dialogue classic Jim, although quite dated if not politically incorrect. This is part of the charm of the Rockford Files. It was well-known that James Garner surrounded himself with talented and class-act people and was very loyal to all who were connected to the show. I would love to meet anyone connected to the show; unfortunately many are no longer with us.

  • @ThisIsJimRockford Of course - i agree --Rockford Files the best.

  • Hey folks, help me out over here. While I have not seen all of Garner's movies, I still have the impression that he never played a 'villain' character. Do you know if that is right? I really do find that comforting when watching certain actors. Sort of a nice cozy feeling that you know the good guy may get some bumps and bruises; but is going to come out ok in the end.

  • Yeah, William Smith played the bad guy in darned near every film he was in.

  • Best TV series ever! And this is one of my favorite scenes ever. Thanks.

(Appreciate the info on the thug from one of the other viewers too - always interesting to know!)

  • Good thing that dude didn't have a gun...

  • Jim's the best, always has been - but he's usually the one getting beat-up. I remember this episode, that bozo was a karate expert...but he was trying to follow Rockford in a Cadillac convertible.

Did ya notice that Jim almost NEVER got paid...he got stiffed more times that a two-dollar whor(se)...I'm just saying

  • Even though it was 'only' the pilot episode, I totally think of this as classic Rockford. <3

  • You want to make something cause Jim drives a stock Firebird and not a Trans Am?

  • What season and episode is this?

  • @masternate61 pilot episode, called Backlash of the Hunter.

  • I will never question James Garner's badassness!...Never!

  • OMG I've been looking for this for a while now. LOL Best. Scene. Ever. of any show. THANKS!

  • I've always wondered if it was a roll of Nickles, or Quarters. LOL! He had to break his left hip with the way he fell on it, with such force. I'm LMAO-I love this scene. Thanks for sharing!

  • i guess he got away with saying queer in 1974.

  • @gm1990ss

Or maybe we can't say anything or show anything on today's police state controlled tv.

  • @gm1990ss They say it nowadays too, as far as I know. It depends on the movie or show and the context it's in.

  • Is there any way to watch the full eps if you don't live in the US?

  • "Once giants lived in the earth, Conan. And in the darkness of chaos they tricked Crom, and they stole from him the riddle of steel. And Crom was angered, and the earth shook..."

William Smith, ladies and gentlemen.Conan's dad, and one of the great badasses of all time.

  • @ishtarg8 hi not sure if you knew but i bought the box set of seasons 1-4 in hmv awhile ago for £40 which i thought was good, if you prefer i think a console games shop called CEX sells dvds and you might find the seasons there for about £7-10 a season pre-owned if that helps

  • Jim Rockfrod was great that way....used his brains. But if it was rea life..I don't think I'd leave it at one punch with a big guy like that. Anyway Rockford was the best.

  • @Abobojo dont forget though $200 a day plus expenses lol

  • @Loganwolfen that was A LOT of money back then...Multiply by 4x for todays dollars??

  • William smith. Id have to rank this guy the number one badass of all times!!!

  • @kevindlinc I 2nd

  • @kevindlinc Met him in person --very very nice man--and was in real life a decorated war vet (Korea)--plus is a linguist (in Russian) who actually worked for the CIA in early '50s.

  • @TheClam88 - the heavy in the clip - William Smith - is also a purple Heart veteran of the Korean War. Alrhough he always played heavies and villains (think of Falconetti in Rich Man, Poor Man), he is one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet in real life. I think Bill's clips are here on YouTune from that series.

  • @bgibb101 yep!!!

  • Funny scene lol.

  • Happy birthday James! They just don't make them like you anymore.....Rockford Files was one of the best shows ever!

  • Jimbo is one smart cookie. I love the roll of coins with the sucker punch. LOL

  • I met Willaim Smith at a convention in 2002. He had an autograph table with his wife. He was VERY nice to talk to and told me, among other things, that James Garner was the absolute nicest actor he ever worked with. Both won purple hearts in Korea.

  • The unforgettable william smith.

  • james garner...one of the hottest men of all time. that's all i can say.

  • and a stalwart liberal democrat to boot. makes him even hotter.;-)

  • Gettin gangster with the fist-pack!! haha called him a queer and knocked his ass out.

  • One of the best shows of all time!!!

  • This was the pilot episode with Lindsay Wagner and Robert Donley as "Rocky", his only appearance because Noah Beery Jr. was working in another series called "Doc Elliott" and was unavailable.

  • @hamtrak just on RTV last night; it's a 2 parter too.

  • what's Jim holding? The flashlight-looking thing.

  • a roll of quarters or nickels i imagine. note the affect it has on big bubba when rockford gives him a knuckle sandwich.. ;)

i have always tried to have a roll of quarters close at hand just for that very reason. you'd be amazed at what it can do when you have to use it. :D

  • wasn't this the first episode?

  • i remember William Smith when he played Falconetti in Rich Man, Poor Man

  • You DO know Garner starred in westerns before Rockford Files - right? Just like Clint Eastwood in 'Rawhide'.

Garner played the original Brett 'Maverick' before Mel Gibson's Dad moved the family 'Down Unda'.

  • James Garner has appeared in lots of films. Maverick of course was a defining role but The Rockford Files will always be arguably the show for which he is best remembered. In a way, it was Maverick dressed up for the modern age, the 70's.

  • Oh I just love 0:54,William Smith's lines are classic...Oh Thats's just fine mister, Everything's goin to be alright..then lands flat on his arse and laid out cold by Jim Rockford..

  • I met William Smith at a convention. Very very nice guy--he said that james garner was the nicest actor he ever worked with.

  • Lucky you. I always enjoyed seeing him on TV and in the movies. James Garner too. I'm sure you already know his background. He speaks Russian as well as a few other languages. Intelligent guy and could have done other things if acting hadn't been his thing.

  • he's great in Any Which Way You can.

  • i remember this episode, though i saw it a few years ago.

  • Rockford + Angel Martin = The best time. I wish there were episodes on YouTube about that show. Hulu has only 69 and one can watch the same episode only so many times. Keep it up.

  • u got right, i can still hear angel "jimmy, jimmy"

  • This was the best show on tv when i was 12-13..man i miss this stuff...:)

  • Excellent scene! I am currently about 3/4 through watching season 5 of the show and you can tell that James Garner looks a bit older. Rockford ROCKS!

  • This video stinks because Rockford is the shit!!!

  • Dumb-looking Ape: "Meaning?"

    Rockford: "You know...queer."

    Dialogue is PRICELESS!

  • he was just so cool and tough!

  • @ThisIsJimRockford In real life the 'dumb-looking ape' is actor Willaim Smith--a real war hero (Korea) who also taught Russian language at UCLA. Met him at a convention and he volunteered that of all the actors he ever worked with Jim Garner was the absolute nicest.

  • such high levels of bad-assery are rarely seen in this day and age.

  • Most of the time in the regular series, Rockford was adverse to fights and actually got the sh*t kicked out of him regularly. Great show.

  • why the neg. rep? he's right.

  • priceless!!!

  • Oh man! Jim looks totally hot in this scene!.. This was from the pilot.... one of the best TV series ever!! :)

  • the big dude tried to come at the rock with a KARATE-A kick! whoa...he

    failed!

  • james looks just like david boreanaz here

  • Survival of the fittest! Rockford rules.
