Each putt putt you hear represents one cycle of water getting pulled in then pushed out.

The flame heats a tiny amount of water inside the engine.

As the water heats, it expands and is forced at a great speed down the pipes which thrusts the boat forward.

As the water escapes, so too does the air in the engine. This creates a vacuum that pulls cold water in. This new water is heated and the process is repeated at a very high speed ( 300 times a minute )

The sound is a brass plate welded into the top of the engine moving up and down.

@JoeStack96 it is easy there are two tubes under it and where the candle is it gets hot and that makes the water boil and that makes the water in the tubes to be air and it tries to get out so the air pushes it.
