    Peace

  • damn dude sounds good

  • Thanx a lot for the nice comment and for taking the time to watch my vid!

    Peace

  • Spot on and groovy as hell, as usual. How much did that Alembic cost you? Looks like it plays like a dream, I wish I had one aswell.

  • Yo my man, thanx! That bass costed quite a penny back in the days (about 20 years ago). And yes I love to play it... but I also love to play my other basses as well. Each bass has it's own characteristics so I am in a luxury position to be able to pick out a bass to my likings according to what sound I need.

Thanx for commenting and Happy Holidays to you and the fam!

    Peace

  • piccolo ?

  • nope, medium scale bass, medium gauge strings.

    Peace

  • Excellent. You have picked up a difficult bass line to do..

  • Thanx and yes it is a speed line... especially keeping it tight and the stamina are the hardest parts.

    Peace

  • 2:09=oooooops! no? ;D

  • LOL, yep! Ooops there :-) Hey, I am not perfect LOL

    Peace

  • great!!!!

  • Thanx!

    Peace

  • Great song and great bass. I've always liked Alembics.

  • Thanx! No everyone likes that distinctive sound... but it's Stanley' trademark so I 'try' to get close to it.

    Peace

  • nice job dude... always wondered if it should be finger or up and down thumb on the first half of the main lick... now i know (i can't do it either way good enough).

    peace

  • Hey there my fellow bass player, good to hear you've seen how to play this one although it's still the way *I* play it. Stanley might play it different but this is what I can make out of it. And yes, you can play it either way... just enjoy playing!

    Peace and thanx for commenting

  • Excellent job you truly live up to your user name!!!

    *****

  • Thanx man... the name was a combination of a motorcycle that I used to own. It was a Yamaha Dragstar 650. But instead of calling myself Dragstar650 I changed it into Funkstar650 since I am more into the Funk rather than motorcycles. :-)

Sounds a little 'cocky' to call yourself 'Star' but it came from the bike and not stardom.

    Thanx for reacting!

    Peace

  • Thanx Abstrakant, trying to play it funky :-)

    Peace

  • You killed that man...but I goda admit...I hate that bass...lol..All jokes aside tho you murdered that lick...

  • LOL, thanx man, cool comment! :-))

    Peace

  • sweet i just got a new ibanez sr 300

  • Great, my second bass ever was an Ibanez Roadstar. Will never forget that mean machine... real good bass! I regret selling it though :-(.

    Peace

  • Only someone as good as you should have an alembic.

  • Aww thanx for the nice comment! Thanx for commenting and watching my vid!

    Peace

  • Well thank you bajisimo. Glad you like it. Hope you also like my other vids.

    Peace and thanx for commenting!

  • Man! You are so great on bass! I was searching more stuff like the awakening. That is old but awsome music and its difficult to find it. Keep you playing and search your luck on show, I think you can.

  • Yo Mailhoax, thanx for commenting. Glad you like all the oldies that I put online. I also love the older stuff as you can tell. Will continue to play on.

    Peace

  • YO ITS NOT ABOUT FORTUNE or FAME, Man you have a gift !!use it man I toured a long time ago and If you get with the rite band!! you"ll have the time of your Life !! Think about that !!! KEEP PLAYING !!!

  • Thanx my friend, I know what you mean and I really would love to get on stage with either one of the bands I am tributing with my vids. I do play in bands though, but we haven't reached the level of being on tour yet :-)

    Peace

  • yo funkstar you should be touring playing with somecats thats making a lot of money!!! Ive.,been playing for around 28 years and grew up on all this stuff playing it when it live was new. glad to see true funk lives on

  • Hey bassheasd4, thanx for the kind words. I also love these mainly ol' school songs and to keep those lines alive. And about touring and making money? Oh well, fortune and fame isn't really my thang though. Just playing it is enough for me... BUT if I get a chance to get on stage with one of these bands I tribute, I am game!! :-)

    Peace

  • i just wanna know where you got that funky shirt.

you're playing is as awesome as the shirt.

  • LOL, the t-shirt is a souvenir I got when George Clinton & Funkadelic were over here for a gig. Check out George Clinton's website for more merchandise.

    Peace and thanx for asking.

  • Thanx for the sweet comment. Really appreciate it very much. Hope you like the other vids as well though.

    Peace

  • Again mate, very nicely played. Actually it sounds at times better than The man himself. Btw who said that Mark King is a Stanley ripp off...not me, buuut he is heavly inspired by him that's for sure...

  • 잘보고 있어요. 베이스 너무 잘 치시네요~ 화이팅 하세요~

  • Errrrr perfdrug, can you or anybody else translate this? I am a bit rusty nowadays when it comes to understanding Japanese :-).

    Peace

  • Can't translate ut, but I'm sure ut's Koren. 8-)

  • Yeah so I see, but his homepage says he's from japan so I dont get it really. But oh well. I will look at it as a mystery comment.

    Peace

  • Hey, funkstar! You relly live up to your name. I now realize that I'm shitty heh heh. What bass are you using in this? Cheers for the funkyness!

  • dude you are fuckin groovin, i cant play it finger pick and then slap. you are a total beast

  • Thanx for the comment 6foot7bassist! The real beast in this case is Stanley... I just try to copy whatever I think he's doing. :-)

Keep on playin' that bass my friend!

    Peace

  • Hey brother, love your playing. Are you using those headphones to get the backing track to yourself?

  • Hey charles, I use the headphones to hear the song + my bass mixed together. I can't use the computer speakers cause they would blow up in a heartbeat! This way I can hear what's going on and how shitty I'm playin' :-)

    Peace and thanx for asking!

  • great job mate, you make it look to easy

  • Thanx spacedub, it IS easy.... for Stanley!!! :-) Not for me, hell no.

    Thanx for commenting

    Peace

  • Lovin the bass-playin and the T-shirt too!

  • Hey Funkstar

You always put everything into your video's, keep up the great work and lets see more of that EVH

  • Hey there my friend, oh I will keep on putting everything in it. Right or wrong, I don't care... just havin' fun!

Peace and thanx for the comment!

  • Aaah, fantastic! This song was used during a dutch sports program in the seventies, wasn't it? Stanley is like speed-metal on bass. He does these incredible (almost impossible) fast things and that is why he's misses the beat a few times while playing live, did you notice? Your performance is great however! Thanks again!!!!

  • Oh yeah, I have seen Stanley Clarke perform live many times and he is known for his fast and almost impossible speed licks. He is not known for his 'On Da One' groove playing. His style is different but then again interresting in it's own way. He took the bass up to another higher level, that's fo' sure!

    Peace

  • Lovely stuff, and nice to see you again. Where you been at?

  • Hey my bass friend! Been busy for a while. You know how it goes with obligations, duties and family matters. I had time to pick it up again last sunday so I am back :-) How's things going for you bro?

    Peace

  • not being funny man, its your cover and you can cover things however you want to, but i was under the impression that stanley clarke plays the verse riff entirely with his thumb and uses the double thumb technique to get the fast mutes in. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

this is pretty tight though, so nice one for that!

  • hey AlanSanderson, thantx for the comment. As far as I know Stanley Clarke is famous for his fast finger technique and not so much for his thumbs. Every once in a while you can hear him thumpin' but it's rare. And I am not saying he can't use his thumbs! I've seen him do these songs 'live' and 99% of the time he played these riffs with his fingers. I can even hear what fingers he uses when he plays this riff.

Thanx for commenting and writing me!

    Peace

  • Thats cool man, I'm envious that you have actually seen him live!

However he plays the bass, he's a true master thats for sure so I guess it doesnt really matter!

  • Exactly, he is considered one of the pioneers of bass who took the bass up to higher level! All respect to the man!

    Peace

  • omg...this makes my cover look so amateur and stupid...

  • happyslappysoong, dont say that! Your version is fine! You got your own style and you should be credited for that! I never call other versions 'amateur' and 'stupid'. Just play like YOU play. That makes it fun. It works for me as well! I am an amateur too!!! Remember that!

    Peace
