@funkstar650 Yes, I plan to keep at it and try to get my "Groove" back.....will post another video soon........and would love your feedback!................Peace......RSerious,
Dude! I checked a lot of your videos and I am thanking you for sharing your Soul.....I am getting back in the Bass Game after 15 years and I am rusty but, watching you and I think his name is DK Marlowe.....hey you guys inspire me to practice harder....thanks.....and you Jammed with Louis Johnson!...AWESOME!.........RSerious.
@RSerious Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Glad to hear you are getting back into the bass game after 15 yrs of silence. MarloweDK is a YouTube friend of mine and he has been an inspiration for me as well. Hoping to see more vids from you soon. Let's keep in touch.
Wow dude, just saw your 'Nikki's Groove' vid and was pleasantly surprised to find this in your repertoire as well. I'm subscribing to your feed, keep up the good work. :)
Yo my man, thanx! That bass costed quite a penny back in the days (about 20 years ago). And yes I love to play it... but I also love to play my other basses as well. Each bass has it's own characteristics so I am in a luxury position to be able to pick out a bass to my likings according to what sound I need.
Thanx for commenting and Happy Holidays to you and the fam!
nice job dude... always wondered if it should be finger or up and down thumb on the first half of the main lick... now i know (i can't do it either way good enough).
Hey there my fellow bass player, good to hear you've seen how to play this one although it's still the way *I* play it. Stanley might play it different but this is what I can make out of it. And yes, you can play it either way... just enjoy playing!
Thanx man... the name was a combination of a motorcycle that I used to own. It was a Yamaha Dragstar 650. But instead of calling myself Dragstar650 I changed it into Funkstar650 since I am more into the Funk rather than motorcycles. :-)
Sounds a little 'cocky' to call yourself 'Star' but it came from the bike and not stardom.
Man! You are so great on bass! I was searching more stuff like the awakening. That is old but awsome music and its difficult to find it. Keep you playing and search your luck on show, I think you can.
Yo Mailhoax, thanx for commenting. Glad you like all the oldies that I put online. I also love the older stuff as you can tell. Will continue to play on.
YO ITS NOT ABOUT FORTUNE or FAME, Man you have a gift !!use it man I toured a long time ago and If you get with the rite band!! you"ll have the time of your Life !! Think about that !!! KEEP PLAYING !!!
Thanx my friend, I know what you mean and I really would love to get on stage with either one of the bands I am tributing with my vids. I do play in bands though, but we haven't reached the level of being on tour yet :-)
yo funkstar you should be touring playing with somecats thats making a lot of money!!! Ive.,been playing for around 28 years and grew up on all this stuff playing it when it live was new. glad to see true funk lives on
Hey bassheasd4, thanx for the kind words. I also love these mainly ol' school songs and to keep those lines alive. And about touring and making money? Oh well, fortune and fame isn't really my thang though. Just playing it is enough for me... BUT if I get a chance to get on stage with one of these bands I tribute, I am game!! :-)
LOL, the t-shirt is a souvenir I got when George Clinton & Funkadelic were over here for a gig. Check out George Clinton's website for more merchandise.
Again mate, very nicely played. Actually it sounds at times better than The man himself. Btw who said that Mark King is a Stanley ripp off...not me, buuut he is heavly inspired by him that's for sure...
Hey charles, I use the headphones to hear the song + my bass mixed together. I can't use the computer speakers cause they would blow up in a heartbeat! This way I can hear what's going on and how shitty I'm playin' :-)
Aaah, fantastic! This song was used during a dutch sports program in the seventies, wasn't it? Stanley is like speed-metal on bass. He does these incredible (almost impossible) fast things and that is why he's misses the beat a few times while playing live, did you notice? Your performance is great however! Thanks again!!!!
Oh yeah, I have seen Stanley Clarke perform live many times and he is known for his fast and almost impossible speed licks. He is not known for his 'On Da One' groove playing. His style is different but then again interresting in it's own way. He took the bass up to another higher level, that's fo' sure!
Hey my bass friend! Been busy for a while. You know how it goes with obligations, duties and family matters. I had time to pick it up again last sunday so I am back :-) How's things going for you bro?
not being funny man, its your cover and you can cover things however you want to, but i was under the impression that stanley clarke plays the verse riff entirely with his thumb and uses the double thumb technique to get the fast mutes in. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
this is pretty tight though, so nice one for that!
hey AlanSanderson, thantx for the comment. As far as I know Stanley Clarke is famous for his fast finger technique and not so much for his thumbs. Every once in a while you can hear him thumpin' but it's rare. And I am not saying he can't use his thumbs! I've seen him do these songs 'live' and 99% of the time he played these riffs with his fingers. I can even hear what fingers he uses when he plays this riff.
happyslappysoong, dont say that! Your version is fine! You got your own style and you should be credited for that! I never call other versions 'amateur' and 'stupid'. Just play like YOU play. That makes it fun. It works for me as well! I am an amateur too!!! Remember that!
Love your vids man : motivational (love the shirt, by the way)
