In the comics they explained bruces martial arts skill as him travelling around the world and learning all forms of martial arts and mastering each and everyone of them. In this movie they have a similar concept but a different interpretation. My guesses are he already knew martial arts before entering the league of shadows.

Its effectiveness depends on how far you want to take it, but masters who are fully dedicated can punch trees full-force without injuring themselves. Bruce would certainly do something like that, as well.
The screen is a bit small to watch this on and the quality is far from optimal, of course. I can follow about 75% of it now, but I can perfectly follow it on a normal screen.
The fact that it is so fast and hard to follow just shows how it should be. In a real good fight, you shouldn't see what is coming and it should be unpredictable. In the behind the scenes they said they didn't want too many fancy kicks or dance-like fighting. I think that works the best for Batman.
I actually liked the fight sequences in BB rather then TDK. In BB Nolan made Batman more scarier and faster like at the loading dock scene where he captures Falcone, just how quick it showed him moving by snaggin criminals and fighting em' when I first saw BB I was just like...DAMN!!!! Michael Keaton ain't got shit on Christian Bale lol
@terrorofsesameST Action is the one element I would describe as "lacking" in the Nolan Bat-flicks. He put in just enough that people wouldn't complain (and then they did, anyway). Not to mention that this is the best fight scene, even though it's the shortest and the first of both films!

@peeweesherman Real-life martial artists practice "body hardening," where they punch, kick, etc. in order to be enable themselves to throw full-force punches. Its effectiveness depends on how far you want to take it, but masters who are fully dedicated can punch trees full-force without injuring themselves. Bruce would certainly do something like that, as well.

The screen is a bit small to watch this on and the quality is far from optimal, of course. I can follow about 75% of it now, but I can perfectly follow it on a normal screen.

The fact that it is so fast and hard to follow just shows how it should be. In a real good fight, you shouldn't see what is coming and it should be unpredictable. In the behind the scenes they said they didn't want too many fancy kicks or dance-like fighting. I think that works the best for Batman.

I actually liked the fight sequences in BB rather then TDK. In BB Nolan made Batman more scarier and faster like at the loading dock scene where he captures Falcone, just how quick it showed him moving by snaggin criminals and fighting em' when I first saw BB I was just like...DAMN!!!! Michael Keaton ain't got shit on Christian Bale lol

@terrorofsesameST Action is the one element I would describe as "lacking" in the Nolan Bat-flicks. He put in just enough that people wouldn't complain (and then they did, anyway). Not to mention that this is the best fight scene, even though it's the shortest and the first of both films!

OMG, i want all you ppl who hate the fighting scenes to go and make a batman movie and see how far you get. does anyone even know why the fights where made in the way he did??
he wanted it to look raw,fast,and painfull thats why when batman 1st shows up and owns all those dudes its confusing its giving you the fight from the crimnals point of view and to them all they see is a huge black bat knockin the shit out of them the scenes display the amount of speed and stealth batman has.

If you look at the behind the scenes disc Christopher Nolan explains why he shot the film the way he did. IT's brilliant. But of course non-educated retards would just say random shit.

I don't care how christopher nolan justifies his fight scene direction on the behind the scenes documentary on the DVD release.
I know alot of people who don't like this style of fight direction because you can't clearly see what is happening.
How does this make a great fight, when you can't clearly see the moves?
Notice how he also changed his "style" for TDK after the complaints.
The only problem I have with this film's direction is the fight scenes, the rest is good.

i agree, it's all good if you get into the breakdown and study of film...but at the end of the day if you can't see what is happening, it's not entertaining, its frustrating and sometimes makes me queazy...

This movies had some of the worst filmed action sequences ever. Just a flurry of limbs and heads. You can't even see what the hell is going on half the time.
