OMG! There is a Doctor Who/Stargate convention called TIMEGATE?!! Where?! Gimme! They were my only 2 fav scifi shows, before fringe & V(2009) came along!
This is written by non geeks aimed at real geeks, but somewhat misses the mark. Given the target audience fro both BBT & DW, accuracy would be appreciated. He "The Doctor" for starters. The program is "Doctor Who". Still, kudos for trying.
If whocon existed, it would never be called whocon. And (geek explosion) that music was only ever used in the library 2 parter, so they are nowhere near earth.
Must not activate geek mode... Must not rant... Must.... Resist... Too late. It is the doctor, not bloody doctor who. The tardis is a living being, not a machine. There is no whocon
So what? That's usually the the main negative observation people make about NuWho; it's often set in modern day London or Cardiff; regardless which episode is on. Did she point at the screen? Nope, she was making a funny!
Haven't seen a lot of this series and what happens when I view this clip? SPOILERS! XD
I'm totally with Sheldon this time. It's like fairies. If you say you don't believe in them, one of them drops dead somewhere. So don't mock the Doctor!!!
he goes to usa, a lot of new new york episodes, and rome, pompeii...wales... it is a british show so it can totally live in london for as long as it wants
@ryanwilk0 your spot on apart from the fact that the variant used here is specifically from the adventure games. Yes, I know these things! @ElevenMisrule
lol Amy's got a point about the Doctor. When I first started watching I said the same thing about him traveling around all of time and space in anywhere in the world(s) and ask "why doesn't he go to the US more or China, etc" but yet he still ends up in the UK. Then I shut up and watched the show. lol
@ryanwilk0 i was wondering if anyone else caught that. i felt like such a nerd when watching this show with friends and they stared at me when i made the reference.
@plushalligator 1) Amy only called him Doctor Who the one time so people knew what they were referencing. All the other times, they were referring directly to the show.
2) No real nerd spells TARDIS with lower case letters! And it IS a machine! What else would you call it?
3) There IS a Doctor Who convention! It's a DW/Stargate Con called "Timegate". No, it's not called "WhoCon", but how would that not make the most sense? That would at least be how people refer to it informerly...
@plushalligator amy isn't supposed to be a nerd which would explain her calling him "doctor who" instead of the doctor and not knowing what the TARDIS is
@hbkdabaybeast Amy is supposed to be a nerd actually as well similar to Sheldon's levels :) just without liking comic books and apparently awesome tv shows :/
Amy's "modern day London" comment is pretty spot on but ironically not relevant for the episode they're watching : it's "Silence in the Library", set in the 51st century XD (just listen to the music at the beginning)
Yeah, if a guy asked me to watch an episode of Doctor Who- especially if it was its first airing, and he knew the character's name was "the Doctor"- that would be a wonderful date. This show doesn't know what its talking about.
I love this show, but am I the only one offended that in the show they always assume that girls aren't interested in things like doctor who or sci fi? I'm a girl and a HUGE sci fi fan and it really annoys me that there are never any real geek/nerd girls in this show!
Fun fact: when the show was created, he was referred as 'Dr Who' (yes, even with the shortened 'Dr' by most of the cast and crew) and credited that way, and every story made had a working title of 'Dr Who and...'
Exactly. If someone I liked, wanted to sit around have a Doctor Who marathon with me all day and eat junk food, I would totally go for it. Actually, I have been invited to a Criminal Minds marathon, but it hasn't even taken place yet.
I think the were referring to show title when they are saying "Doctor Who", which is perfectly correct.
When Amy said "Doctor Who", she was wrong. He has never been called "Doctor Who", just "The Doctor". It was only when someone asked him the question "Doctor Who?" was the full title use.
Sheldon did give a good representation of over zealous "Whovians". You can see those same people on the last night of San Diego Comic Con during the Doctor Who panel, or in the audience of a "The Netdest
Oh Jesus Christ people! They call him "Doctor Who" so people unfamiliar with the program know what they are referring to. Can we please not have these repetitive arguments every time a show references the Doctor as "Doctor Who?"
@42guide42 And I think Amy(Not Pond) was talking about the show not the character itself. She meant the show liked history.
On a second note strange I DW might be the flew shows Penny won't mind. Though I think she was just disappointed that the date was not the kind she thought it was.
I'll just point out to all you newcomers to the game (anyone who came after 1963 is "new") that although fans like to gloat in their superior knowledge...
The main character was in fact called "Doctor Who" when the showed first aired. And the credits also called him "Doctor Who" in the first season of the new, rebooted Series. if you're going to say that the credits don't count, you might as well call him "Grandfather" or "Professor."
@TheStaticoss And Whovians need to get a real life instead of rehashing nitpicking pointless arguments that have been going on ever since Doctor Who appeared on PBS
this is the 3rd time that DW was referenced in the show, Stewart's new years costume was the 4th Doctor and Sheldon watches it every Saturday morning with his cereal....also the TARDIS isn't a machine its living how rude of Amy
I was so happy when I saw this. I mean, of course I was slightly annoyed when Amy called him "Doctor Who?" but people at my school make that mistake all the time, so I'm used to it. As for a "doctor who date," I've had several ;) I have a party for each season premier and finale, which means that a lot of my dates have been sitting at home watching Doctor Who XD
They screwed his name up and pronounced it like it was some strange specimen... It's Doctor... Doctor Who is not his name. People on the show say, "Doctor Who?" when they first meet him but never say, "Come on, Doctor Who, let's save the day." I've never met a fan who calls him that, obviously they're crazy and obviously the writers know nothing about the show lol. Also makes me feel like a nerd... But I don't watch Star Wars, Star Trek, read comics or play many games. So I don't think I am...
but remeber the question that should be answer doctor who it is good that it is in like that like when night rider newer one made ref to cpt jack just a little nod is all that counts
@dontwantachannelever sheldon even mentioned it another time. just saw it a few days ago. don't remember which episode.. but i think it was the first time it was mentioned in the big bang theory at all...
I'm not sure what the hell Penny is going on about. Watching Doctor Who is a perfectly valid date. In fact, I wish someone would ask me on a Doctor Who date.
Yes, it is funny that the Doctor likes modern-day Britain, isn't it? Because it's not like ANYONE IN THE HISTORY OF IDIOTS WHO HAS EVER CRITICIZED THIS SHOW HAS EVER POINTED THAT OUT.
On the fields of Trenzalore, at the fall of the Eleventh, when no living creature may speak falsely or fail to give answer, a question will be asked. A question that must never, ever be answered. The first question hidden in plain sight, the question you’ve been running from all your life. Doctor who? Doctor who? DOCTOR WHO
Just realised the music is the music from Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead....which wasn't even set on Earth! *facepalm* Although she does have a point.
And Sure...she may be totally screwed up about the name but look it on the bright side...DW got a 2nd reference on a show that otherwise only really references things like Star Wars, Star Trek and Marval/Comic book stuff more than once :) They probably used DW as it would be a bit more user friendly to non-DW fans too..probably.
@TheDoctorWhoMedia I don't think the episode needs to be set in London for the idea to spring to mind. It may even be the fact that they are watching an episode not set in London that brings the idea to her head. Just a thought :)
@TapTapTech Very true. I thought it while watching Doctor's Daughter that's set on Messaline...then again..I think of it probably at least for a second in every episode I watch. I just find it a bit ironic in this circumstance. :)
@TheDoctorWhoMedia There doesn't have to be a direct connection between the episode and the joke... I mean think about it, the joke stands regardless, no need to get all specific on it..
@TheDoctorWhoMedia When I first saw this episode, before Amy spoke, I new I recognized the music. Then I was like "of course it's from Doctor Who!!! But which episode????" Thanks for reminding me that it was Silence in the Library, that was driving me insane. ;)
@TheDoctorWhoMedia Can I just say.... I find that episode the scariest ever *shudder* probably 'cause it's with the shadows attacking people... and shadows are everywhere................. O.o scared now :S
@TheDoctorWhoMedia OK thank you, when I watched this I didn't jump up and down screaming that she mistakenly called the Doctor Doctor Who, I jumped up and down screaming there gana see River die I'm so sad for them.
@CaMoreno3 People get annoyed by that but in the original Doctor Who, The credits listed the Acor who played the Doctor next to the character name of 'Dr. Who'.
@TapTapTech I wouldn't really consider the credits a reliable source for this kind of thing. The credits are typed up by bean-counters who probably know very little about the show in the first place.
@CaMoreno3 I hate when people use this argument. If you watched classic Doctor Who, you would see that the first Doctor, William Hartnell, referred to himself as "Doctor Who" on many occasions.
Erm, give me particular examples of when he refers to himself like that, because I have a lot of the Hartnell dvds and I dont remember him referring to himself as Doctor Who once. The only time he has ever been referenced as Doctor Who was when Wotan called him that in The War Machines. God I feel like such a nerd when I talk like that lol
@CaMoreno3 Oh, c'mon -- stop being pedantic. While more popular than it's ever been in the States, Doctor Who as a show is still largely unknown to much of the U.S.; Amy referring to the character as "Doctor Who" is simply a means of narrative reference/clarification for the non-geeks (of which there are quite a lot) who what TBBT. Instead of bitching, you should be *glad* that DW got referenced on a show as popular (and contextually appropriate, as well) as TBBT...
@tideoftime Firstly, check your tone. Keyboard warriors don't impress anybody. I'd respect your opinion more if you chose to civil. Secondly, they should have found a better way to initially reference Doctor Who for the "non-geeks." Referencing The Doctor correctly would've been magnitudes more contextually appropriate, and would've added a small amount of quality to this less-than-watchable waste of time.
@CaMoreno3 And, in typical geek-to-the-draw fashion, you proved my point: as a sci-fi geek, myself (but one who keeps a broad view of things), I learned quite a long time ago that "the medium is the message" -- the show conveying the "x" in this case is being viewed by a great number of people who *are not* sci-fi geeks, and often have not heard/seen DW, as a show. Providing the comment as an identifier is perfectly acceptable, as is often the case for shows even in the UK who reference DW. /C
@tideoftime This reply is exactly the same as your first one. So please, read my previous reply for my view on this, as I find it unnecessary to retype it. Shows that do this in the UK, US, AU, or anywhere are wrong.
@tideoftime I know what it means, and chose to ignore it. The fact that you find the need to point it out says a lot about you. Also, repeating yourself, and then attempting to end the conversation is evidence to me that you lack an argument. Anyways, if I could direct you to this video, watch?v=7zkX6kfnWbk , I think you'd benefit from it.
@CaMoreno3 *sigh* Fine... I'll take your bait and indulge you (though you might want to read LittleDragon2000's post, above): Given that the original creators of the character (Newman, Webber, and Wilson, with Verity Lambert thrown in for her added relative contributions, despite WIlson's disagreements with her), had dual titled the show *and* the character "Doctor Who", with the intent of leaving his name elusive/mysterious, and further that the working titles for the first 8 seasons of all the
@tideoftime (cont') stories were "Doctor Who and [aired title of the story, except for the production error title in S.7:DW and the Silurians]", with the directive referring to the "Doctor Who" part *being the name of the lead character*, it is *NOT* at all strange for the character to be referred as such on the meta-narrative level. Yes, *in-narrative*, he is simply "The Doctor", for communicative purposes. But then, it's not like I've heard this debate for 30+ years... Oh, wait: I have...

kerwri 1 month ago 24
I dont care how sad it makes me, but I would rather be alone for the rest of my life, than be with a woman who doesnt like Doctor Who lol
dancingmonkey08 1 month ago 3
Yes, it is funny that the Doctor likes modern-day Britain, isn't it? Because it's not like ANYONE IN THE HISTORY OF IDIOTS WHO HAS EVER CRITICIZED THIS SHOW HAS EVER POINTED THAT OUT.
ISN'T IT FUNNY

On the fields of Trenzalore, at the fall of the Eleventh, when no living creature may speak falsely or fail to give answer, a question will be asked. A question that must never, ever be answered. The first question hidden in plain sight, the question you’ve been running from all your life. Doctor who? Doctor who? DOCTOR WHO

for a show thats supposed to be nerdy I thought that they would have pointed out that the doctors name isn't "doctor who"

Pfft, greedy whore. What better date can you get than watching Doctor Who?

TapTapTech 1 month ago 4
@TapTapTech Very true. I thought it while watching Doctor's Daughter that's set on Messaline...then again..I think of it probably at least for a second in every episode I watch. I just find it a bit ironic in this circumstance. :)
TheDoctorWhoMedia 1 month ago
@TheDoctorWhoMedia In series 6, they hardly ever go to London at all. I personally tend to like the episodes set on Earth the best.
kul65 1 month ago
@TapTapTech I think they go to Cardiff just as much if not more... lol...

@TheDoctorWhoMedia I think the appropriate response to that episode is D: and then :D, not staring blankly at the TV. that's my main objection.
floatinroundmytincan 1 month ago
@TheDoctorWhoMedia There doesn't have to be a direct connection between the episode and the joke... I mean think about it, the joke stands regardless, no need to get all specific on it..

@TheDoctorWhoMedia Well, no references this week to a Wil Hweaton SausageFest!

Amy called The Doctor "Doctor Who"... WHO ISN'T HIS NAME! I hate it when people do that.
CaMoreno3 1 month ago 92
@CaMoreno3 People get annoyed by that but in the original Doctor Who, The credits listed the Acor who played the Doctor next to the character name of 'Dr. Who'.
TapTapTech 1 month ago
@TapTapTech I wouldn't really consider the credits a reliable source for this kind of thing. The credits are typed up by bean-counters who probably know very little about the show in the first place.
CaMoreno3 1 month ago
@CaMoreno3 I hate when people use this argument. If you watched classic Doctor Who, you would see that the first Doctor, William Hartnell, referred to himself as "Doctor Who" on many occasions.
CurtHouse32 1 month ago
@CurtHouse32
Erm, give me particular examples of when he refers to himself like that, because I have a lot of the Hartnell dvds and I dont remember him referring to himself as Doctor Who once. The only time he has ever been referenced as Doctor Who was when Wotan called him that in The War Machines. God I feel like such a nerd when I talk like that lol
dancingmonkey08 1 month ago
@CurtHouse32 I grew up on Who, and I can't recall one time Hartnell called himself "Who." If you could provide a reference, I'd appreciate it.
CaMoreno3 1 month ago
@CaMoreno3 Oh, c'mon -- stop being pedantic. While more popular than it's ever been in the States, Doctor Who as a show is still largely unknown to much of the U.S.; Amy referring to the character as "Doctor Who" is simply a means of narrative reference/clarification for the non-geeks (of which there are quite a lot) who what TBBT. Instead of bitching, you should be *glad* that DW got referenced on a show as popular (and contextually appropriate, as well) as TBBT...
tideoftime 1 month ago
@tideoftime Firstly, check your tone. Keyboard warriors don't impress anybody. I'd respect your opinion more if you chose to civil. Secondly, they should have found a better way to initially reference Doctor Who for the "non-geeks." Referencing The Doctor correctly would've been magnitudes more contextually appropriate, and would've added a small amount of quality to this less-than-watchable waste of time.
CaMoreno3 1 month ago
@CaMoreno3 And, in typical geek-to-the-draw fashion, you proved my point: as a sci-fi geek, myself (but one who keeps a broad view of things), I learned quite a long time ago that "the medium is the message" -- the show conveying the "x" in this case is being viewed by a great number of people who *are not* sci-fi geeks, and often have not heard/seen DW, as a show. Providing the comment as an identifier is perfectly acceptable, as is often the case for shows even in the UK who reference DW. /C
tideoftime 1 month ago
@tideoftime This reply is exactly the same as your first one. So please, read my previous reply for my view on this, as I find it unnecessary to retype it. Shows that do this in the UK, US, AU, or anywhere are wrong.
CaMoreno3 1 month ago
@CaMoreno3 I did read your counter-reply. BTW: /C = end conversation.
tideoftime 1 month ago
@tideoftime I know what it means, and chose to ignore it. The fact that you find the need to point it out says a lot about you. Also, repeating yourself, and then attempting to end the conversation is evidence to me that you lack an argument. Anyways, if I could direct you to this video, watch?v=7zkX6kfnWbk , I think you'd benefit from it.
CaMoreno3 1 month ago
@CaMoreno3 *sigh* Fine... I'll take your bait and indulge you (though you might want to read LittleDragon2000's post, above): Given that the original creators of the character (Newman, Webber, and Wilson, with Verity Lambert thrown in for her added relative contributions, despite WIlson's disagreements with her), had dual titled the show *and* the character "Doctor Who", with the intent of leaving his name elusive/mysterious, and further that the working titles for the first 8 seasons of all the
tideoftime 1 month ago
@tideoftime (cont') stories were "Doctor Who and [aired title of the story, except for the production error title in S.7:DW and the Silurians]", with the directive referring to the "Doctor Who" part *being the name of the lead character*, it is *NOT* at all strange for the character to be referred as such on the meta-narrative level. Yes, *in-narrative*, he is simply "The Doctor", for communicative purposes. But then, it's not like I've heard this debate for 30+ years... Oh, wait: I have...
tideoftime 1 month ago
@CaMoreno3 You know his name was in fact Doctor Who when the show started in 1963?
exino1985 1 month ago 2
@exino1985 It's not his real name. It's just what they put in the credits.
WhatTheCheesecaker 1 month ago
@exino1985 I'm pretty sure The Doctor never once called himself Doctor Who. If you're talking about the credits, that's not a viable source.
