Yeah, the clay/wax just gives it a more textured, bed-head look. It would look just as cute without it! :)

I find the braid stays better if you give the hair a little tease beforehand. Just a light tease to give the hair some texture, nothing big or knotty.

Or it can easier to braid hair when its wet, too. Or apply some clay/wax before hand. You just gotta play with it :)
