  • Few year old but I found this very enlightening. I am about to buy and install my first motherboard soon, so this was quite informative. I don't know about people commenting your voice, didn't seem depressing to me. If anything, you speak slow and in a very good and clear manner, which is perfect for less tech savy people. All and all, a very nice guide. I'll be checking other videos as well. Thanks for this.

  • @Datamike Thank you for that. The 2011 version of this video is available now and the 2012 videos will be out in a few months. homepcbuilderdotcom

  • @hpcbdvd Yeah, I actually found the site through your youtube channel and I am thinking about buying access for maybe a month, just for the access of 2011 videos and particularly your support forums, as I think I could use some custom answers to a few of my dilemmas that concern my future computer upgrades.

  • you are a motherboard

  • @poepscheit Thank you?

  • this voice perfectly fits the video.

  • (. .)

  • PC's used to be the most impossible thing for me but thanks to you its easier than plugin in my xbox 360. thank you :)

  • so after installing the new MoBo, after re installing the OS, do i need to install the all drivers come with it? like lan etc. or windows is going to update it automatically?

  • @Surveylol Windows may have or be able to find drivers online automatically. Of course if it doesn't have a driver for the ethernet adapter and that is how you get online you will need to install the ethernet adapter driver so Windows can go get other drivers. It is a good idea to download the latest driver from the motherboard makers website before you replace the motherboard. That way you will have all you need to complete the upgrade.

  • @hpcbdvd Can I update it in windows? or on the Bios? sorry totally new about computers.

  • @Surveylol You install the drivers once you are in Windows. We do have a video that covers installing drivers in Windows on the website. The video isn't free but the information in the videos is worth the price. Our website is Home PC Builder dot com.

  • nice video!

  • Thanks alot

  • thanks a loooot dude! great vid

  • I Need this right away!

  • Made in China @3:54

Oh My!! Made in China is Everywhere

  • @muikay God made this universe & God made Human....... (SIGH) The rest was made in CHINA.......

  • @scaredchiken I just posted your comment on Facebook! ROFL!

  • What a good video

  • finally, a video that shows motherboard installation in detail. :)

  • Stop going on about his voice, this video was very helpful and his voice was easy to understand compared to all you other people who slur your voice and take everything unprofessionally. Thank-you for the video :)

  • @CreedofAges You hurt my brain, you do know that GPU's are the bottlenecks when you come to i7s i think even if you had a Tri SLI 580 setup your processor would only be sitting at about 50% load MAX my friend has the best AMD GPU which is better than the 580 and hes only been about to get to the low 20's...

  • jesus christ!! why is everyone complaining about his voice?????? who cares how his vooice sounds??? we came here cuz we needed his help. and ill bet most of the people complaining have WAY more annoying voices. u kno the type.. shrill, annoying and prepubescent. so they need to stop making fun of this guys voice.

  • Boring as hell voice!

  • @LetsWatchThemBurn Is there a recording of your voice I can listen to and critique it?

  • @LetsWatchThemBurn then get the fuck out he is trying to help you i find it ok who cares hes helping you FOR FREE

  • @CreedofAges If you have a socket 1155 CPU you will need a cooler that can work on a socket 1155 or 1156 CPU. 1155 and 1156 are the same size. The cooler that came with your Packard bell will not work. The cooler that comes with an Intel socket 1155 CPU is very good. If you are planning on doing some overclocking of the CPU take a look at the Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2. It is cheap, easy to install and an excellent upgrade. For a higher end cooler check out the Freezer 13 line of products.

  • @hpcbdvd I'm sure i heard somewhere that the 1155 and 1156 coolers are compatible seeing as the 1156 to 1155 pin was just a cash grab by Intel because the memory and bus controllers are on die there was no need what so ever for the pin difference. f***ing Intel this is why i wish AMD would get there ass into gear and beat intel because AMD has a pin change only when they have a valid reason not just a cash grab.

  • Cool video. Now, I have a question about motherboards. Can the the motherboard of a computer from a specific series work on another model from the same series, even if the number is different? I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW-560 F/T whose motherboard is bust. Can a motherboard from let's say a Sony Vaio VGN-FW-235J work on it? Because I've been able to find motherboards from models from same series, just that the special model numbers are different.

  • @WanderingProphet Laptops are very different from desktops. The parts, especially the motherboard, are much more specialized. I doubt that a motherboard for a different model number computer would work in your laptop.

  • what OS do you have and how much ram? i saw in another vid you had win xp 32-bit but you have like 16gbs of ram. how are you supporting it on the os? i'm confused.

  • @ThePresD The videos here on YouTube are just pieces of the video set and some are a little old. We don't show XP in our current set of videos for instance. You can watch all the old videos covering XP by going to the site listed in this videos description and adding /xp to the url. The current videos show how to install Windows 7 64bit which can handle 16GB or more of RAM.

  • I HAVE BIG PROBLEM I NEED URGENT HELP I consolidated the motherboard and other parts and run and nothing to light KNOW IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE LET SOLUTION say THANK YOU in advance!

  • @markohaker100 Is this a new install you have done? I need more information.

  • @hpcbdvd no,it's old motherboard pentium iii,There is no image on screen

  • @markohaker100 The motherboard shown in this video is a Asus P6T Deluxe. It is a Intel socket 1366 motherboard. The current videos also show Intel socket 1156 and 1155 motherboards along with socket AM2+, AM3 and AM3+ from AMD.

  • @hpcbdvd that but I know if the pitot another motherboard will not start why it is important to the image!

  • GRASA

  • thank you!!

  • This guy sounds like GLADOS :)

  • thats dumb holding the mobo up to screw it in just lay down the case it wont move and easy to screw also why the hell didnt attach the cooler outside the case just making things harder for himself so much fail in this video

  • @t0k3z420 You can install the motherboard with the case standing up or laying down. We choose to shoot the videos this way because it was easier to get the required camera angles. When you install an Intel CPU cooler it's prongs need to go through the motherboard. By first installing the motherboard onto the riser you create enough space for the prongs to go through and make a solid connection to the motherboard. These videos are updated every year and the 2011 version is on our website.

  • this guys build his own IPAD 3 take a look @ my channel

  • I love how he says something about getting recent infomation and not two year old videos at the end and this was posted a bit over two years ago.. But good video :)

  • @4560123678 The videos are updated every year on our website. The 2011 version of the videos is available. They show you how to build your own computer yourself. Tech support is included, over the phone, email or in our forums on the site.

  • Monotone

  • Good tutorial, but man you've got guts using an electric AND magnetic screwdriver to install mobo screws...

  • @jAX0202 We have a video that comes before this one that shows how to make sure you don't over tighten the screws. The complete video series that shows how to build a computer is available on our website which is listed in the title of this video. Magnetic screw drivers are fine to use in computers. The only component that is affected by magnets is the hard drive and it has plenty of shielding. The magnet in a screw drivers just isn't strong enough.

  • lol every time you say motherboard i want to kill myself, good video though

  • Great video man!

  • your voice is depressing.

  • @HTTIYAN I'm sorry. He said apologetically.

  • @hpcbdvd dont be sorry,

i guess i was pissed that day.

anywayz it was a great and instructional vid, thank you for ur time =)

  • @HTTIYAN his voice reminds me of Squidward from Spongebob for some reason

  • i've got two red and black wires running from the internal speakers and they arent plugged into the motherboard. how do i do that?

  • @mophead243 Those can connect to two of the pins on the motherboard as shown in this video. What motherboard do you have? I can look up the location of the pins for you or you can find them in your motherboard's manual.

  • NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE VID.Two questions for ya...1)What type screwdriver is that I have been looking for an automatic screwdriver like yours. And 2) i just bought a "new" motherboard from a shop that was going out of business and they weren't sure if it was good or bad. Well before i invest in buying all the correct components is there a way to test that it works and is not bad?

  • @dj2182 That is a black and decker power driver you can get at lowes or home depot. It is battery powered and around $20. To really test a motherboard you need to have a CPU, memory, video card and monitor.

  • Shouldn't we use a static wrist band??? All the other videos say that it's important to use. So i don't know should i get one and i don't even know where i could get one here in Finland

  • @Aksuno0b The 1st video in this installation series covers this. Just touching an unpainted part of the case from time to time to discharge any static electricity in your body is enough. If you want to be extra careful you can use a wrist strap.

  • @hpcbdvd Ok thx for the info

  • Very thorough and informative. Thank you

  • @IIIBLaCKBiRDIII The hard drive will work in the new computer and the CPU you choose is correct for the new motherboard. When you first turn the computer on it probably won't boot into Windows. Windows 7 has a repair option that it will give you that may be able to get it up and running on the system hardware. If that fails you'll have to reinstall Windows 7. All of your files will still be there but you would have to reinstall your programs.

  • @IIIBLaCKBiRDIII That is right on the edge. I would get the new power supply.

  • @IIIBLaCKBiRDIII It may very well be enough. Do a Google search for extreme power supply calculator. You can select all of the hardware you'll have in the computer and it will tell you the minimum wattage requirement.

  • @IIIBLaCKBiRDIII 550W isn't too much. 250W would probably work but it might be tight. I would get the 550W just to be safe. That is good price.

  • @IIIBLaCKBiRDIII Those parts are all compatible. The PSU that is in your computer now will probably work as well. Open the case and make sure it has a 24pin power cable going to the motherboard. In addition you will need a 4 pin square power plug from the power supply to the motherboard. This connection is right next to the CPU cooler. If your power supply has these it will work fine.

  • @IIIBLaCKBiRDIII I can't find where the motherboard's BIOS has been updated to support an AMD AM3 6 core CPU. You can not put your current DDR2 memory in a socket AM3 motherboard. You're going to need to do an upgrade of the motherboard, CPU, memory and possibly the power supply to get a 6 core AM3 CPU. The case appears to be a micro atx form factor so you'll need a micro atx motherboard to go into it. We have a $250 computers upgrade parts list on our website that should work.

  • @IIIBLaCKBiRDIII That depends on what the motherboard and more specifically the BIOS on the motherboard will accept. If you know the model number of the motherboard I can look it up for you.

  • This is a blinding video. I'm tempted to order the DVD. Very educational and recommended.

  • 0:20 Thats what he said.

  • @ZeroDriverz That is what I said.

  • If u had Sata 6gb/s when installing your hdd it says sata1 and sata2 would sata 6gb/s read faster than sata 3gb/s

  • @lurkochan On most motherboards you will see SATA 0, SATA 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on depending on how many SATA controllers your motherboard has. These numbers are just the number of each SATA controller. The speed of SATA, 3Gbps or 6Gbps is something else. Most motherboard's SATA controllers support 3Gbps speeds. Newer motherboard will also have a few 6Gps SATA controllers. Keep in mind that both the hard drive and controller have to support the rated speed to get that speed. Continued...

  • If you plug a 6Gbps hard drive into a 3Gbps SATA controller you will get 3Gbps speed. To get 6Gbps speeds both the drive and controller have to support 6Gbps.

  • Will this work well?

    Cooler Master Elite 430

    Asus M4N98TD EVO SLI

    Corsair VX 550W 80+

AMD Phenom II X2 555 3,2GHz Black Edition

    Corsair 4GB (2x2048MB) 1600MHz XMS3

    500GB Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ

    are this parts good together?

  • @f0sha Yes those parts will work together.

  • will this work?

Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower

MSI 880GM-E43 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

    G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 Desktop Memory Model

    CORSAIR Builder Series CX600 600W ATX12V v2.3 Active PFCPowerSupplygood build?missing anything?

  • @alldayskillzs Yes it will but I have to say that motherboard is a little low end compared to the CPU and video card. If you like MSI motherboards I would recommend upgrading it to something like the MSI 890FXA-GD65.

  • @hpcbdvd i have a question about ram? G.SKILL Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR is different from G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBNT because...? does all ram work with any motherboard?

  • @alldayskillzs The main difference is the speeds they are each rated to run at 1600MHz for the Sniper and 1333MHz for the Value Series. Just about any DDR3 memory will work in an Intel or AMD motherboard that takes DDR3 memory. The differences is the speeds the motherboard supports and the speeds the memory is rated to run at. We have a video posted on YouTube called "Build a PC Computer - S01 L03" if you search for it you can watch the whole video. It explains memory in more detail.

  • @hpcbdvd thank you once again for your input.

  • Dos, all motherboard fit in all computer cases? pleace writh back.

  • @DexZnikili No. For the most part they do but not all. What case or model computer do you have and what motherboard are you trying to install into it.

  • @hpcbdvd

it is a Gigabyte G1.Assassin, Socket-1366 motherboard. and do you think that it well fit in Guardian 921 RB case. google it if u have problems. to find it. thx bye the way. and have a nice day.

  • @DexZnikili The Gigabyte G1 Assassin is an XL-ATX motherboard. It is larger than the standard ATX form factor. It will NOT fit into the Guardian 921 RB which can only take ATX and smaller motherboards. If you Google search for "xl atx case" you will find several cases that can take the G1 Assassin motherboard.

  • @hpcbdvd this is my comp w w w.newegg.c o m/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227306,can you suggest me a good motherboard for it because the MB that it came with is very small and i would like to put another GPU more RAM. (i spaced out the W's and com in the web address)

  • @navyteccs I can't find anywhere where it says the size of motherboard it will take. It looks from the outside like a ATX motherboard will probably fit. The motherboard in it may be a Micro ATX, which is quite a bit smaller. Look below and to the right side of the motherboard it has in it now for some extra holes where risers could go. There should be two to the right and three below the motherboard. It the case does have room and the extra holes any ATX motherboard can be used.

  • @navyteccs If you are adding another video card to the system you need to make sure the wattage of the power supply can handle it.

  • Thnx buddy!

This helped me a lot with the case connectors, other stuff i already know.

    Rly rly THANKS!

  • thank for the info im buying a new motherboard soon and didnt want to pay somebody to fit it in

  • @Mordocyanide I am who I am.

  • @Mordocyanide

I can tell you, "figuring it out youself" without any help will lead to incorrect connecting which will damage the motherboard and alot of wasted money. Listen to this guy and that won't happen

  • So the standoffs keep the motherbaord from touching the case?

  • @trema12345 They keep all the circuits on the back of the motherboard from touching the case and causing an electrical short.

  • il vis sa avec un tour navis electric NE FAITE JAMAIS SA risque d endaumager la carte maire

never makes her a risk tournavis Electri dandomager the motherboard

  • "You have selected Microsoft Sam as your computer's default voice."

  • I like the acid in the background : )

  • This is great, i have the same case, but i have a MSI 870A motherboard and the directions on the motherboard as to where to put the Power Switch, Reset, and HDD LED arent very clear. Can anybody help me out?

  • @Marshallnd If you are just looking at the labels on the motherboard I can understand why you are confused. Take a look in your motherboard manual. There will be a larger view of the connections with better descriptions.

  • @hpcbdvd Thanks but were good now.

  • Just push the generic plate out hard or hit it with a screwdriver

  • dude you have no zest in your instructions me listing to you would trip me off in that voice i could only watch this one video i can't watch a whole dvd with that voice in my head i'll go crazy and learn nothing

  • @locutz does this video also make you a whiner too? because thats what it sounds like. who cares if he doesnt have a very emotional voice? it was a great video and helped me with alot of my motherboard problems.

  • @ohyeahitsisaac dude am just being real if you wanna sell your business you gotta be at least a little bit more zesty than that dude weather if the video helps or not thats facts, but at the same time am not saying it was not a good video,i never said that.......get your facts straight before you say something

  • Does it matter if i put the FIREWIRE or USB upside down ?

you putted the firewire downside and the USB upside ( name on top )

Nice vid. bro , ignore peopLe saying or asking your a robot . :)

some tutoriaL is very fast and i cant even understand them . -.-"

  • @ZzSparksz Both USB and Firewire can only go in one way because of the missing pin. The name being up or down doesn't matter.

  • damn its hard to find the right order of videos because they dont have the numbering on them an i dont have the time to search!!!

  • @Che9009 Only a few of the videos are here on YouTube. To get all of the videos go to the website listed in the title of this video. The videos aren't free but are worth the cost. I offer unlimited tech support on the website. By phone, email or forum.

  • Nice tutorial, but are you a freaking robot?

  • @KirbyPwnz13 I'm relatively sure I'm not a robot.

  • @KirbyPwnz13 ikr :p

  • @KirbyPwnz13 Nasaly robot.

  • OK, by using this tutorial I have successfully installed my motherboard and got my computer to work perfectly. One problem: the risers screwed up. I put them in the right spots, set the motherboard on top of them, and screwed in the screws, but they wouldn't stop stripping and the risers got pulled out of the case... what went wrong? My motherboard is in, but it's a bit loose...

  • @Twisted4000 Sometimes when you back out the screws they can unscrew the risers from the case. It is possible they stripped the threads in the case. If you remove the motherboard you can figure out what happened. What case do you have?

  • @hpcbdvd I have the Raidmax Blade. It is a cheap mid-tower case. I know many of the screws and riser have stripped, how gentle am I supposed to be with them?

  • @Twisted4000 You shouldn't have to be gentle at all. Did you maybe use the larger threaded screws? The risers take the screws with small threads.

  • @hpcbdvd Actually, I may have used the big screws... the case came with about three different kinds, I didn't know which ones to use.

  • @Twisted4000 The different types of screws that come with a computer case and where to use them is covered in the video that comes before this one. Its called Overview of Parts.

  • DAMN! I want to upgrade my pc but need a new motherboard. I am very uneasy on installing one. It is the only part of a pc I find scary to install, though I haven't tried it yet. Looks sooo tricky, despite this simple video.

  • @7Sul7 The motherboard is the most difficult to install/replace because all the other components connect to it. Most people after doing this look back and find it was more difficult in their mind than it turned out to be.

  • @hpcbdvd Thanks. I feel more comfortable now. I will give it a go :)

  • HELLO I AM A ROBOT

  • @acal1979 I AM NOT. AM I?

  • i have the same mother board brand!!!

  • where do u buy all that stuff someone please reply

  • @TheMiguel814 Newegg is where we mostly shop for components.

  • Very clear instructions - thanks

  • Do HDDs or MOBOS come with the red SATA cables to plug into the HDD? or do i need to buy those separate ?

  • @DopeBoyMagic66 The motherboard will come with at least 2 SATA data cables. Usually 4 or more.

  • @mycuteboys thanks for the info

  • cool

  • how do i remove the cpu fan after installing it? the clips are almost impossible to open

  • @dynastyflygon On an Intel CPU made in the last 5 years there are fastener you have to rotate counter clockwise for them to release and allow you to pull up on them. Before you put the cooler back on you have to rotate the fasteners clockwise. If you have another CPU please reply and I'll give instructions.

  • @hpcbdvd so this also applies to the intel i5 2500k right?

  • how do you put in a 9 pin f panel connector to a 20 pin f panel input?

  • @About14Pandas What motherboard and case do you have?

  • @hpcbdvd

the asus m4a785-m Iactually got it to work though. thanks though :)

  • @hpcbdvd

never mind I found out which pins on the 9 pin f panel connector were the power switch so I just off set it and plugged it in. works fine. thanks though.

  • i love u man!

  • It's an instruction video what did u expect?

  • how come i cant find my pwd led and F_audio wires?

  • @TheStreetballa1 Not all cases have a firewire port on the front of the case. Most cases do have a power led (light), but it is possible that yours doesn't. Have you checked the front of your case for both? If the port and light is there you need to check the inside of the case again. They may be tucked away.

  • @hpcbdvd oh thxxx ~is it all the wires have label mark on it ??

  • @TheStreetballa1 On some cases not all of the wires will be labeled. If this is what you're seeing you will have to use a process of elimination to figure out which wires are which.

  • okey.

there is no way im going to do this.

    im buying a new pc

  • @the12221 it is also good to try to assemble your own PC..

  • i always connect the case connecters before putting the motherboard into the case

  • Great

  • Subscribed. Good video. I don't care about emotion or not.

  • My mobo just uses this little 3-pin thing which the power button plugs into.

  • if you add an uneeded raiser, and later remove it. will your motherboard still die?

  • @wowsordog Usually when you take out the mis placed jumper the computer will be OK.

  • @hpcbdvd yeah:) It worked, and my pc is up now without any problems. thanks for the guide, it helped a lot!

  • the best video for building computers thank your for your time spent with the world on how to teach them how to build a pc. and i i saw lesson 1 and i couldt find lesson 2 but i saw 3.

  • @starkilla21 Only a few of the videos are here on YouTube. You can find the rest at our website. Its listed in the title of this video.

  • Really quite good. I have a few quibbles, one serious but harmless wive's tale being spread and too much thermal compound was applied, but overall excellent lighting, editing and audio quality though the narrator needs to enjoy himself more. Come on this is exciting putting together a build.

  • @FascistNation Which wive's tale? I'll work on being more excited.

  • BEST TUTORIAL EVER. All the other tutorials answer certain things that other tutorials dont, but at the same time, they leave out key info that others do answer, this has everything, thanks!

  • who gives a fuck abt how he talks...

  • Hi, i am really curious if my pretty bad power supply will work for a new motherboard and a processor?

I´m gonna use an ASUS M4A88TD-M EVO/USB3, AMD Phenom II x4 955 black edition CPU (no overclocking) ATI Raedon 4650 HD. No more extra cooling or leds.

On the back of my computer i can see a sticker that says "230v"

So what would u recommend? a new power supply, or will it work?

    Happy christmas!

  • @Niwcke I doubt 230v will be enough for the new components. 400W or 450W should be enough. Do a Google search for "power supply calculator" and you'll find a tool that will let you enter the components for your system and it will tell you the minimum about a watts they will need.

  • @hpcbdvd Ok! ´Whats rly the difference between Volts and Watts?

So i´m sure. My 230V power supply will be enough for my setup?

If i had etc an high end graphics card i would change to a better power supply?

Sorry for being such a dumass! :D

  • @Niwcke Do a Google search for "volts vs. watts" and you'll find a good explanation. I'm sorry I didn't notice the v in the 230volts you asked about. That is the power coming into the power supply. Its either 120V or 230V depending on the power standards in your country. What you need to find out is the wattage of the power supply you have. You'll have to open the case up but there is a sticker than will say. Based on the components you've mentioned a 400W power supply is a minimum.
