Kendo was developed as training for unarmored duels, not for fighting against an armored opponent in a battlefield scenario ( where a spear is the true weapon of choice ) . So smaller and fast cuts using just wrist and elbow movement are entirely valid, especially if the strike is backed up with the movement of the entire body ( = ki ken tai ichi ). This is a great example of fighting spirit by two expert Kendoka. Your comments are those of an ignorant fool.
people need to be aware too, in the old video, the movement is look faster (1.5-2x) than the actual.

those strikes are useless in combat.
the wrist action makes it a sport.plus the footwork.
i really wish Japan would go back to true kendo.
modern kendo was made by commoners not samurai.
any shin style or anything with heels planted firm,is a sign of battlefield style.

Yokomen is not forbidden at all, it's just that not many people are able do, or teach, it anymore.
