this movie is amazing. i dont believe in violence either but now i can see and we can all see in aileens life how she really is like that, abusive childhood, raped & molested. this is sad. Charlize theron totally deserved the oscar. this movie is juust mind blowing & it brings me to tears always.

Charlize Theron played this role very well.... She's a great actress. But what's depressing is that she made a lot of money doing this while Aileen Wurnos (the woman the movie was based on) is dead..... sad isn't it. I hope A.W's soul finds some sort of peace indeed.

@amaneciamosiameses are we even watching the same movie?! theron kicks ass and takes names in this role. besides swank, no other actress has played a more masculine role & totallly pulled it off. & seeing theron outside of this movie, she's a hell of a lot prettier than a lot of actresses & it still doesn't hold her back from giving one of the most humiliating & believable performances I've ever seen.

@zzzthaoster yea and theres more. her mom was like a 16 year old and her father was a pedophile who hanged himself in jail. aileen basicaly never saw her parents anyways. when she was 10 she was having sex with her brother experimentally more than once. at around 12 she started hooking at the neghborhood for money to gets drugs and alchohol. at 14 she was pregnent and imediatly had to give the baby up for adobtion without even looking at it. oh and shelby is ugly in real life, more than aileen

you can just feel that aileen wanted to make her life go right. she had that hope inside her. i dont know everything about her or her life, but if this film is true to her, you can see the spark inside her, that passion to live a life where she didn't have to sell herself to scummy assholes. she just wanted love, companionship and to get by in life.

She said at first that she killed in self-defense, but in the end she admitted that it wasn't in self-defense at all. One theory is she killed because in her mind she was defending herself, but in reality she was actually murdering for money.
