@MegaPramuka Well, think of "setups". Your target setup is for the ILS indicator to be crossed at the flight vector (that's the circle with three lines and shows where you are going) and then put the vector on the third wire, gear flaps hook down. The AOA indicator (the lights just on the left of the HUD) gets yellow when you reach the correct speed. If you can then steady it, you can land hands-free ;). Increase/decrease the throttle just a little to adjust.
@DornDaniel No, I actually did the full afterburner, but the game reacts so slowly that you can't hear it. But you can hear the thrust increase just a little before going back to idle.
Are there carrier ops in lock on modern air combat too? I got falcon 4.0 Allied assault and that shit is like ultra-realistic, I want something that's realistic but that I can play without studying a 700 page manual.
@Atony94 Yes there are, and Lock On is also quite realistic. Only thing is: There are only Russian carriers. I don't know about the Flaming Cliffs 2 add-on, though.
Slightly higher level of detail in avionics than Falcon Allied Force, on par with Open Falcon.
More weapons modelled than Allied Force, including JSOW and JDAM. Including ALL operation modes of HARM:PB, ToO and SP (even Open Falcon does not have this) =D.
Buddy Lasing and FAC Lasing.
Naval ops as real as it gets, ATC, Marshall and meatball controller, stack before approach, etc.
Actually I have LOMAC too, but haven't uploaded a vid from there yet :), but it is way more realistic. What I would like to have, though, are U.S. carriers.
If you're looking for ultra realism, try falcon 4.0, open falcon or falcon 4.0 allied force :) after you try that, lomac will look like arcade game :P
@johnnymclaneutah Well, I have some Falcon 4.0 videos, too, if you wanna look ;) But the F-16 does not do carrier operations, so F4AF does not either...
Anyone know if they took out the Virtual cockpit in F/A-18 OIF? KOREA had it and im afraid they took it out for this installment...makes no sense to me.
:) You should learn about flight physics, it's very important and will help you control the plane automatically. Whenever you pull the nose back, your speed will drop, so always increase thrust. Same with pushing the nose down, decrease thrust. There is also some "overhead" because when you move the stick, the ailerons change angles to turn the plane, which means friction, which means loss of speed (no matter which direction).
Rotfl, don't assume that I don't know about flight physics. Keep in mind, I was like 12 when I got this game. I could have cared less about flight physics...I was a kid with a fighter plane simulation....At that age... fun for me WAS crashing into the side of the carrier. As I got older, I learned all about that stuff. Hell I even read the entire book that came with the game...I studied every last detail.
Hehe alright, well when I was 12 I played MS Flight Sim 5.1 in DOS... The only manual I read completely was the one from Falcon 4.0. There are also some videos of me playing that game, if you wanna watch...
The trick is to get the plane into the correct attitude as soon as possible, i.e. having your flight path indicator on the ship (and green ball/ILS centered), you should break until your attitude indicator left of the HUD is green (in my case short before landing it gets yellow, which was a bit dangerous) and your thrust level should neither accelerate nor decelerate your bird. Then all you have to do is to adjust your FPA to have it on the ropes (the third) until you land. Try that as a start.
Yeah, the carrier landing training mission :D, haven't flown the career mission yet. I don't have much time because of my studies, and if I start a career game, it will make me addicted, which might harm my studies :).
This is one of my favorite flight sims. It was overlooked by many people, though... Some said the graphics sucked. To them, I say- graphics aren't everything... and they weren't that bad, anyway!
You'd be hard pressed to find a more realistic F-18 sim anywhere.
Oh yeah, it's really fun, one could play a carrier game all the day only for practising carrier landings :D. Thanks for the comment, appreciate it very much!
how to do that, I always try to landing at USS Enterprise, but always fail

You forgot to go full after burner after touchdown, just in case you miss a cable.

i concur with Lock On: MAC, because they only use planes that have released performance data.

May I ask, is there an F/A-18 simulator that comes close to the level of realism/fidelity of Falcon 4.0? I love F4, but I'm a hopeless Navy nut...
wraith444 3 years ago
Yeah, there's a new F/A-18 sim coming out called Seven-G.

Look no further: Jane's F/A-18.
Slightly higher level of detail in avionics than Falcon Allied Force, on par with Open Falcon.

Should I go on? :D

Wow, description of Jane's is making me drool... Amazon, here I come! Thanks!

I am desperatly looking for that too...
so far i only have F/A-18 Presition Strike fighter that i bought 8yrs ago there in US.
and i love it!
but i wish there is a new simulator for F/A-18 with better graphics..

try Janes F/A 18 and LOMAC if u want to try the SU 33 in carrier operations

Played and loved LOMAC, especially the Su-33 :)

Hi, I have both these games but having trouble with Janes F/A-18 in XP and and screen looks kind blurry. Any ideas?

Loved this game, still have it. Can't tell you how many times I came in too slow though and nailed the side of the carrier lol.

I have this game and it is awesome. The missions are pretty realistic.
btw...i suck at landing on the flat tops...i mainly die in OIF
