Thank you for this video, I don't know why it took me so long to come across it, I have been a fan of most of these musicians, and I can remember when they where all young.
A very refreshing video showing that these stars are just ordinary people having fun.
Still have the vinyl. Framed on my rec rooms wall. The reason this band worked so well was there was no ego trips with them. They each really enjoyed the others music. We are so fortunate that they got together even though for a short time.
I like Petty, Harrison, Dylan, and Orbison. The first time I heard the Wilburys was in 87 or 88(?) visiting a friend at Western Michigan University. We went to the (biggest meat market bar) Bourbon Street, and endured Paula Abdul singing "Straight Up" etc. When we got back to the house Tony said "You are gonna like this" and put in the disc....absolutely awesome.
Thanks so much for uploading this. The greatest supergroup ever without doubt. George was always my favourite Beatle but I think The Traveling Wilburys was his finest hour. Five superb artists and friends just having a good time hanging out together and producing wonderful music. Loved them from the first time I heard Handle With Care on the radio. And don't forget Jim Keltner on drums (and fridge! and whatever else was handy) laying down the beat.
Enjoy it!!!
an essential pioneering rockstar, a visionary poet, a peace inspiring enigma, a pure americana artist, and a living vocal icon.... did they even have to try?
If you put together the right combination of songs - ie. "I Won't Back Down" from Full Moon Fever, "You Got It" from Mystery Girl, "Lift Me Up" from Armchair Theatre - then you have the unofficial Traveling Wilburys vol. 2. Perhaps it was a deliberate move, to weave a couple of Wilbury-ish songs into their solo albums during that time. Maybe it was a coincidence, as they all contributed to each other's material from 1988-1991. Who knows. But it's worth considering. :-)
Something really heartwarming about these 5 middle aged men who had nothing left to prove or achieve just getting together and making great music together for the sheer fun of it.
I've always suspected in listening to Wilbury's stuff that they must've had a good time making the music because it feels SO JOYFUL to listen to it. Alot of their comments here cement that. Thanks, guys. These songs will be around way longer than any of you, and that's a beautiful thing.
