Have you heard of Intentional Communities? Like Eco-villages or Co-housing except even more communal. Intentional Communities are like Hippie Communes version 2.0, many of them have survived from the 70's and developed into flourishing examples of communal living. Others died out. Of course they're not the most well-known thing in the world, but I've researched them and they are very interesting. The best example of one in America is called "Twin Oaks Intentional Community." Check it out
