Sweet lift, 394 is freaking manly for a good morning. Your back will be strong as hell if you do a couple sets of those in with your deadlifts on back days.
I like the wide stance better as well too, stiff leg drops my numbers like crazy.
Yeah, Bruce Lee hurt his back FOR LIFE doing 8 good mornings with little less than his BW without warmup and I've read it puts a tremendous stress on the spine anyway, so I don't do it.
yup... horrible exercise for most people. And youre right about Bruce Lee, he didnt hurt his back in some street fight for honor like the movies depict.
Do any major exercise heavy improperly, without a warm up and your screwed. That's not saying that good mornings are a bad exercise, that's just saying he was foolish to not have properly warmed up, asshat. GM's are about the only reason I can stand right now, after having completely obliterated my lower back pitching and various other sports. The strength its given me in my low back (went from 165lbs GM to 515lbs to give you an indication) has almost completely eliminated the pain.
I should do more Good mornings, I think I neglect them in favour of AGT squats but I should really be doing both.

I take it you sumo deadlift as well? What sort of weight do you shift on the deadlift for a single?
I'm currently working up to a set of hopefully five on these with the same weight, so would be interesting to know
Thanks

Honestly, I'm stunned that you can do that kind of weight without having much more massive legs, impressive.

Good stuff, man. I just started cycling these into my own training as well and noticed a drastic drop in weight with the wider stance.
I can't tell, is that you spotting or lifting Jim?

That is me lifting.
For me, I feel a greater distribution out wide and more stable.
I just checked out your youtube channel - great job on your recent PL meet - big numbers bro!

Sweet, man. Strong lift!
That's funny, I use at least 100lbs less with the wide stance.
Thanks man, it's not easy dropping weight, but hopefully I'll get there someday.

Hi
Very impressed with the weight used for the GM and also for your approach to exercise in general.
Do you think that good mornings is amust exercise for lower back or they are more dangerous than are worth?
Cna dangers be avoided with proper technique?

No exercise is dangerous when proper form and weight are used.

Start with no weight on the bar and work up slowly.
TheAmazingOti 2 years ago
If you warm up properly and use the weight you're truly on, there is no danger.
