that first example seems invalid to me because if one "honestly lies" based on the standard of moral conduct, they are acting based on what they know and think is morally correct, not what another social group would agree with. Yes, it is true that such an individual committing the act of making the hungry person starve may be doing such because of what they have accepted as right concerning their social group; however, each person has an individual ability to think independently.
@grimslider75 : but that "independent" thinking is based on a shaping through culture and upbringings. Thoughts are trained words with meanings. It will differ where and how you have grown up. So thats why you require self honesty to see this within yourself and not just follow it.
I'm sorry for my ignorance, I guess I was conforming to the notion to humans are (or should be) independent beings as promoted by our current legal system. This independence, however, is not based on the independence of thought, but the independence of action. In other words, our legal system looks at the end result, which appeals to the ideal of independent action, and ignores (or undermines) the environmental influence on behavior.
Very intellectual way of explaining Honesty and Self-Honesty,,,,,,
IF WE ARE SELF-HONEST,,,,, WE CANNOT FOOL OURSELVES INTO BELIEVING "WE ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING," WHEN OUR ACTIONS NEGATIVELY AFFECT SOMEONE OR SOMETHING,,,BECAUSE WE THINK WE ARE SO HONEST, WE GIVE UP OUR BASIC LOVE FOR SENTIENT BEINGS BY PLACING THEM IN HARMS WAY. ONE LOVE ,,, *)(*
This is cool. We're never really taght self-honesty either, if we were, we would not accept a lot of the abuse and corruption that goes on in the societies we live in.
HA I'm the 100th view, hehehe. I know it's stupid too post this but whatever's hahaha..... By the way I agree, no ratting, let the police do something for a change. Also moral honesty is structurally alright, but I think it's overrated. I think it's like religion; it gives peace of mind but doesn't solve nothing and ignores the underlining problem.
