I just go off of what I see, we had a Dakota trans go out at about 115,000, my boss's 3/4ton dodge utility is on it's second trans at about 180,000 and this year his 3/4 ton dodge diesel lost it's reverse gear. That's just within my family and where I work. From what I have seen, I would never buy a Dodge anything, I like their style and look but I have lost faith in their drivetrain...that's just me.

@shadyg44 The vortec motor's do not use the NV tranny that dodge has. The Heavy duty Vortec's use the transmission which is the "80LE" 5 speed& also the new six speed tranny's. The 1500's use the 4L60E trannsmissions which has electronic shift control on it and before that was the 4L60. Never was mopar tranny;s used in these truck's. Your so called insult is typical of those on here who do not like it when they are told they are wrong.

Built 454 or not, it's all going to depend on who breaks traction. Actually, the more built it is, the less chance of winning a pull. It doesn't sound all that built to me, maybe a set of headers and thats probably why it hung in there for as long as it did.

He blew the stock motor and had a 454 laying in the garage, built it. got a painless wireing kit. got a new computer and did a throttle body conversion on the 454. It is a 454. It's my buddies truck. oh.. thats interesting.. suprised to here the 8.1 blew. My father has an 05 gmc 2500HD. He hauls trailers all over the country for a living and his first 8.1 lasted 375,000 miles. He's on his 2nd engine now with that truck at right around 520,000 miles. Now thats proven GM durability. Anyway.. good vid.

Lol, you must be thinking of the crappy 2.7l v6 chrysler, the 318, 360, 400, 440 are some of the longest lasting chrysler engines ever (almost as long as the cummins). I have 215,000 on one of my 318's and 184,000 on the other, both running like new. My uncle has a cargo van with a 318 with 434,000 with just a little valve train noise at start up (still runs like new) none ever rebuilt. I agree, diesel will outlast a gas engine, but the chrysler 318-360, gm 305-350 and ford 5.0 and 351 lasts
thats not a 454!!Chevy/gmc never used the 454 in the silverado body 99-up Only in the K2500 and 3500HD the old 88-00 body style.Thats a got to be a 01 and up.They used the bigger 8.1 liter big block and those motors are the king of torque for a gas engine!!!I hate to say it because I love the cummins diesels but that dodge cummins had a hell of time trying to yank him.They should have yanked on to a 8.1 dually.

duramax is built by cat now .witch g.m. owns.Isuzu and g.m. split in 2006 g.m has all the rights to duramax. so now it is a true u.s. built motor. i just baught a 2009 1 ton duramax withallison trasmission an a h/d package on it and catapillar is stamped right on the block..it is rated for 660 ft lbs of torque.but it fells like it is a lot more. i pull a 27.000 lb 5th wheel with it and it pulls it with no problem.i have taken it over moutain passes with 14 to 26 % grade . best truck out there

@350cutlassrocket. you do realize that chevy has been using the same transmission dodge has had since 97 the started buying them in 2000 and if you tweek the gears just a little you will have dodge like mine at 300,000 on my ram 2500 diesel an the truck is at 528,000 miles so keep that in mind chevy ppl chevys use dodge transmissions just like their cars use 3.5 engines that they bought from dodge

@shadyg44 I'm not a Chevy guy or Ford guy. I just go off of what I see, we had a Dakota trans go out at about 115,000, my boss's 3/4ton dodge utility is on it's second trans at about 180,000 and this year his 3/4 ton dodge diesel lost it's reverse gear. That's just within my family and where I work. From what I have seen, I would never buy a Dodge anything, I like their style and look but I have lost faith in their drivetrain...that's just me.

@shadyg44 The vortec motor's do not use the NV tranny that dodge has. The Heavy duty Vortec's use the transmission which is the "80LE" 5 speed& also the new six speed tranny's. The 1500's use the 4L60E trannsmissions which has electronic shift control on it and before that was the 4L60. Never was mopar tranny;s used in these truck's. Your so called insult is typical of those on here who do not like it when they are told they are wrong.

Built 454 or not, it's all going to depend on who breaks traction. Actually, the more built it is, the less chance of winning a pull. It doesn't sound all that built to me, maybe a set of headers and thats probably why it hung in there for as long as it did.

But Yes, more surface area is good... That is all done by tire pressure though. Uneven wear on bald skinny tires does not help. Thanks for your opinion and input. GM didn't offer a 454 in that generation truck.. its probably an 8.1.. which is even better.. would have been cool to see a dually gm vs dually dodge.. probably would have ended differently.

He blew the stock motor and had a 454 laying in the garage, built it. got a painless wireing kit. got a new computer and did a throttle body conversion on the 454. It is a 454. It's my buddies truck. I was there for the build. You are right though. I should probably get a under the hood vid on that chevy so all ya guys can see.

oh.. thats interesting.. suprised to here the 8.1 blew. My father has an 05 gmc 2500HD. He hauls trailers all over the country for a living and his first 8.1 lasted 375,000 miles. He's on his 2nd engine now with that truck at right around 520,000 miles. Now thats proven GM durability. Anyway.. good vid.

Lol, you must be thinking of the crappy 2.7l v6 chrysler, the 318, 360, 400, 440 are some of the longest lasting chrysler engines ever (almost as long as the cummins). I have 215,000 on one of my 318's and 184,000 on the other, both running like new. My uncle has a cargo van with a 318 with 434,000 with just a little valve train noise at start up (still runs like new) none ever rebuilt. I agree, diesel will outlast a gas engine, but the chrysler 318-360, gm 305-350 and ford 5.0 and 351 lasts

thats not a 454!!Chevy/gmc never used the 454 in the silverado body 99-up Only in the K2500 and 3500HD the old 88-00 body style.Thats a got to be a 01 and up.They used the bigger 8.1 liter big block and those motors are the king of torque for a gas engine!!!I hate to say it because I love the cummins diesels but that dodge cummins had a hell of time trying to yank him.They should have yanked on to a 8.1 dually.

The thing is he blew his 496 up, threw a rod, so he had a built 454 sitting around the garage and dropped her in. The dodge had bald ass tires for one thing and the chevy has 4:56;s in the front and rear diffs.

duramax is built by cat now .witch g.m. owns.Isuzu and g.m. split in 2006 g.m has all the rights to duramax. so now it is a true u.s. built motor. i just baught a 2009 1 ton duramax withallison trasmission an a h/d package on it and catapillar is stamped right on the block..it is rated for 660 ft lbs of torque.but it fells like it is a lot more. i pull a 27.000 lb 5th wheel with it and it pulls it with no problem.i have taken it over moutain passes with 14 to 26 % grade . best truck out there
