2008 Yamaha WR450F - Dirt Bikes

Should I get this for my first dirt bike? I have a lot of street experience and my buddy who has ridden dirt for years says I should get a 450 because I am a bigger guy.

OK GUYS... now days these bikes have like all the same tecnowledy. now 30 years ago yes they were different in alot of ways. yamaha and honda are like the same things. i have a yamaha wr250f 09 and that thing has so much damn torque palis it unbelievable. so guys stop arguing over honda and yahama. the onely thing i noticed about the yamaha and honda is that the technowledy on the yaamaha is more up to date for instence: the trip meter its digitel and has a speedometer trip o meter and averge sp

Best motorcycle I've ever owned... Accellerates hard, power wheelies in 3rd gear, mountains of torque, jumps nice, tracks easily, looks great.

Oh yeah, and its street legal.

Does anyone knw how this bikes compares to the YZ450F? Im asking because im hardly riding any mx but im riding trails instead. (Keep hurting myself on the track...) Is there a big difference?

um, yeah. BIG difference. If trails is your thing, go for the WR. It has PLENTY of power, and is really great and predictable to ride. The YZ is a whole lot of bike. You can get the WR close through mods, but the YZ is geared a little different and is meant for more hardcore. With that being said, they are both great bikes. I have a WR 450 & 250, and they are both a freakin blast. Guess it depends on your skill and what you want out of it.

Thxs for the rreply! :) i have ayzf450 07 and 08 as i started racing, but a few broken bones later i started trails instead. So what im gonna do is get a wr450 and mod it up abit. The steering issue is the same for the yzf450 08 as for the wr i suppose because i had that issue with the yz. Safe riding!

no. Well, okay, you can buy mods to make it road legal, but in California it has to come from the dealer/manufacturer with an emmisions label, and they don't do that. Because Cali is run by fruit loops and Arnold Swarzenegger.

Really, it's a good bike, and he's right, steering response DOES take some getting used to - throwing a scotts steering dampener on makes it feel even a bit heaver.

It WILL loft the front tire in the first 5 gears, no clutching. This bike will knock you the FUCK out, so don't reef on it till ya get used to it. Oh, *cough* Grey wire mod *cough* >.> :D :D

CRF 450 power, and less maintenance :D

no actually in the reviews it says the wr450 has the smoothest plane of power not better quality or faster, infact kawasaki and honda where .4hp difference with kawasaki in first for hp, turning and frame design the honda got best frame and suspension combination and yamaha got best use of powerban and easiest to ride. 8 pounds heavier than the klx450

i read in a magazine where they tested a Yamaha Kawasaki, and a Honda. the yamaha was much better in everything but it had less power. the reason for that is that the yamaha has smoother power. the kawasaki and honda dont run as smoothe therefor they have spots in the rpm where it dosnt make more power than differant rpm's create as much power but it feels like has more power. the yamaha has a smoother running engine. it has more power it just seems that it doesnt. i did a test myself
