My dearest L - I must have known you before, or perhaps you were the father I should always have known. Now that I've found you again - please, never let me go.
Well it took me 2 years to find this!!! But OMG this was my favorite movie as a teen. This song was embedded in me, and my friends! At the time, I thought I wanted to meet Swan too!!!
When I first heard this song in the 70's, I always thought and still to this day that had Karen Carpenter (The Carpenters) sang this song, it would have been a top 10 hit as it suited her voice and style and everything they touched then became a hit.
I've seen in strange young eyes, familiar tears --
(when i first saw this movie , long long ago, almost everyone I knew really liked it!
A twist on a classic thriller plot, some pretty memorable dialogue and acting,
and the music... (six distinct styles, the lyrics hold it together as a story... still holds up, for me - I quotes lines from the movie once in a while... I still know the lyrics to every song (even "The Hell of It")...)
This song I first heard it in the movie "The Phantom of Paradise" and never heard it again till today 05/30/11 and for some weird reason I remembered it today, We looked and found it, its such a mystical sad song that it got stuck in my subconscious and maybe cause I dream of PARADISE...........
To the love of my life. I miss you but I am happy that you found a happiness I couldn't give you. You are my heart and always will be. We sang this song together and in my heart we always will.
@nintendokings You have a lot of great music to listen to- It will take a lifetime, because the more you like music, the more music you like- Dante Bontempo.
like many others, I saw this movie on tv when i was a kid,and the great music haunted me forever. I found the dvd on ebay and bought it right away. love it
One late, late night while I was wandering around Walmart, I began digging through the 5 dollar movie bin, I was bent over waist deep in copies of Jaw 2 and Kindergarden Cop and way at the bottom I found a copy of this amazing film....I literally screamed like a school girl...needless to say I snatched this and Jaws 2 up to take home....
I had to wait to wipe the tears away before posting a big thank you! I fell in love with Paul and the soundtrack to this movie when I saw it in the theaters when it first came out and still love both all these many years later.
@slywlf54 Aww thats really sweet. I admit I get all sentimental when I hear really good music as well. Maybe thats why I've never gone for the really heavy stuff or rap or hip hop. Too abased.
was fortunate enough to see this film in theatres and drive ins when it first came out & it is one of my favorites of all time...this song is magical, and the film far underated.
paul williams is too, the entire soundtrack is pretty amazing.
My dad showed me this film when I was REALLY little, like 5 or something and one thing that stuck out for me was this song! Loved it when I first heard it and still do! good movie too!
i was raised in a god fearing household and the whole idea of selling your soul to the devil was powerful for a 7yrold.my cousin would put two 45's to his face and would scare the heck outta me...lol.
I remember seeing this movie on "Cablevision", a forerunner to cable t.v. We saw the same movies over and over for a month. My brother and I memorized every line of dialogue/songs on this movie, and I still know them all!
Gods this movie will never get old for me...I recently got it on DVD and watched it during a Phantom marathon me and my friends were having. I love Jessica Harper's voice and Paul Williams' music is just class <3 That and Finley's Phantom is possibly one of the most adorable yet horrifying Phantoms ever! I loved it!!!
@odaxbi How thoughtful of you to play this song in memory of your bo'- I'm sure the tears were flowing that day... I still have to think of my old flame that has never extinguished.
I just adore Phantom of the Paradise...I'm "young" in age but this movie touches my heart in a way no other movie of "my" generation" has done. Jessica Harper has an alto's voice of an angel! Thank you for uploading all the songs from this awesome movie!
@TheYlangYlang I Saw her in Shock Treatment a failed attempt at a sequel to Rocky Horror Picture Show
& Love and Death ( with woody Allen )
The rest I had to look up Phantom of Paradise 1974, Love and Death 75, Stardust Memories 80, Shock Treatment 81, Pennies from Heaven 81, My Favorite Year 82, Mr. Wonderful 93, Boys 96, Minority Report 02, Blue Iguana, Interscope, Safe, Suspiria, Inserts??
@artrail shock treatment wasn't a "failed sequel". it was neither a prequel or a sequel, just simply a movie within the rocky universe. it's an extremely underrated movie because of its connection with rocky. if more people gave it a chance without expecting it to be another rocky horror they'd find that it's quite good.
@starsonmywindow i totally agree with you. if you take shock treatment as a completely separate film to rocky horror it still makes perfect sense (despite its many plotholes lol) and is a very catchy and enjoyable movie. i bought the 3 disc box set on my 15th birthday and on first viewing didn't know if i liked it but the more i watched the more i loved it. and jessica harper has a beautiful, husky voice...i could listen to it all day
my husband & I were both teenagers when we saw this film, we watched it over and over since we love this song too much... it''s been a part of both our lives.. thanks so much for posting!
I love this film all of its music, growing up in El Salvador, I must've seen this film at least 10 times, I bought the dvd and still watch it once in a while but the soundtrack is a masterpiece. I need to get it. great music.
@DanseRusse1 Why would you ever want a remake!? The original is perfect! It should just be remastered and given a really nice blu-ray release, or even a theatrical rerelease!

In the spring of 1979 I was leaving my hometown without the girl I had loved secretly since I was 13.I told my friend in 1973 that that prtty little tomboy would be my wife someday I just knew it somehow ? I was playing pool and Linda asked if I'd seen her boyfriend. Our eyes locked and she went into a fixed trance as I felt her look into my soul.I dropped my pool que and kissed her and we've been happily together for 30 years.

So many great songs go unheard anymore. So our children have become deprived of a great source to with which they cannot draw.
No wonder they text. It's the best songs they know.
How sad and such a waste of life to not know there full minds potential only to die as nothing in the end..

Beautiful song - one of my favorite movies. Back in the day, it was a double-featured with Rocky Horror - what a combo!
