That was one of the big things they improved on in BF2, though they came at it from multiple angles. The Assault class got body armor (one of the few classes that did), a grenade launcher of dubious usefulness, and benefited from medics dropping full-heal medkits so you weren't completely screwed if you got hit. That said, Medics still had great guns (especially unlocks) and an easy way to point-whore (rezing) so they make a better class. Support could grenade spam, though. Even better to some.

Assault is pointless in this game except the Canadians because the Johnston LMG is da bomb. The weapons have poor accuracy and you can't heal. You might as well just play engineer.
