Spongeanator, that 5:29 time on the finish clock is the running time from 1st wave that started about 1 hour before I started, and after I had been hanging around at the finish line for about 20 minutes. They don't reset the clock for each wave.
We feature Bill Carlson on the Big Blue Test video. In 1983, he was the world's first person with type 1 diabetes to Ironman. For every view the video gets, a child with diabetes in need gets a week of life-saving insulin. Please share it to help save the lives of children with diabetes!
IDDM 10 years. This guy is AWESOME. I love the look on his face at the end of the race. people are collapsing before the finish line and he doesn't even look tired.

I'm a type 1 diabetic and I just got into triathlon this past year. I have 4 races under my belt - 2 sprint distance and 2 olympic distance races. I'm hoping to complete a half ironman in 2010 and an ironman in 2012. This video is very inspiring... the only thing I can recommend for those with the disease is get into exercise!! being active is my #1 defense against complications...
Jay how long have u had Type 1? I've had it 23 yrs. Growing up I was very athletic and never knew sickness - I was a state volleyball champ - I ran track and hurdles in high school - I used to jog 3 miles a day - then at the age of 24 I was diagnosed with type 1 - I need some motivation lately since now Ive got some complications can u help?
Amazing. I am a personal trainer with type 1 diabetes. I didn't know I had it until I had been working as a trainer for six months. Of course I had to stop doing that, as I was killing my body. I don't understand how you can do what you do, other than you have an amazing metabolism. Well done, I wish I was like you.
