  • all sw have they bugs. mozilla isnt the best browser. opera is better

  • W R O N G!!!. u must pay. if u use for commercial use u must pay annual licenses for linux based products. if u use openoffice to write "i sell icecream" u must pay the licenses.

  • Linux is is GREAT!!! Everyone should give it a try. I'm sure many of those who try it will keep it forever!!!

  • A weakness I see in Linux (which others may consider a natural defensive benefit) is there are too many choices of distro, and both KDE and GNOME are polarized in their approach to configurability and complexity. I've long been frustrated by the fact that newer software versions are always developed for the latest distro version, requiring a re-install. That's one thing I like about the Windows world, newer software works with an older OS. And the older OS gets tweaked, not replaced.

  • @P00P0STER0US try archlinux (or the linux OSes who use a "rolling-release" recycle). no reinstall needed, package updates do everything for you - OS, libraries, software, etc. the only time you need to restart your computer is when you install a new kernel. in windows, you restart your computer for everything - from installing software, to clearing ram from memory leaks, and fixing bugs/crashes. windows king of restart :))

  • @erwinvillejo Hey thanks a lot for the insight. I've installed Debian on my laptop recently but I'll give archlinux a try, and I'll see if I can uncover other distros with rolling release cycles. I'm going to be trying to build a home file server soon from a PIII so I'll be looking for a good candidate for a system like that. Cheers!

  • That was great for people who have heard the word "Linux" and wonder what it means.

  • good stuff. presentation like this is what keeps people dumb, though.

  • And along came oracle...

But as always the community stept up and LibreOffice was born

  • LINUX IS THE TRUTH

  • Ubuntu rocks and so does firefox

  • NetCaptor was the first to introduce tabbed browsing, followed by opera in 2000 and only later mozilla did it.

  • Free like free speech,

    not free Beer!!

Actually I can say that I have already spent more Money for Open Source Software than for Microsoft Peoducts!

  • Ubuntu is good, but not as good as they make it sound here. It's not perfect, there are bugs.

  • agreed, however they do update quickly and bug fix and they are incorporating ext4 soon so like 15 seconds or less boot speed in october

  • its linux.. haha

  • shit, there's bugs in windows too. there's bugs everywhere. shit, there's bugs in my program as i speak...they never go awayy!! gaahhgg

  • The firefox statement is wrong.

Opera was the first to use tabbed browsing, firefox followed.

    tut

  • Opera got it in a stable release first. Firefox had it before Opera, but Firefox was in beta, so it "doesn't count". Same thing with the search indexing with Vista and OSX. MS had it first in beta, Apple had it first in a release.

  • Excellent clip, but that last guy was a bit of a tool. I don't get how one can advocate open source while sticking with vista...

  • The statement about Firefox being the first browser with tabbed browsing is wrong. I beleive NetCaptor was the first. It had this feature before Firefox for sure.

  • Open source is one of the few good things in this world where social "loan-sharks" are looming behind your back. Ubuntu is the best thing in computer world since Internet 1994.

  • very nice, thanks for posting

  • Seeing this makes us coders shout for joy. "Ubuntu getting recognition? YAHOO!"

    VIVA LA REVOLUTION!!

  • Im surprised they didnt mention fedora which im pretty sure is the second most popular and the one i used to use.

But still AWESOME UBUNTU IS THE NEW WORLD ORDER! THE NEW VISTA! THE NEW LEOPARD! THE NEW COMPUTER!!!!!! THE NEW WOOOOOOOOOOOORLD!!!

  • the problem with other distros are following:

#1 : not large communities (not as large as ubuntu's)

#2 : uses RPM or any other crappy ones

#3 : uses command-line a lot (terminal) which may be annoying to some

  • VIVA LINUX! VIVA UBUNTU!

VIVA BSD! (Even though I've never used it)

    VIVA LA REVOLUCION!

  • All Hail Brittannia!!!

    er... I mean... Linux!!!

  • firefox was not the first browser to introduce tabbed browsing. Opera was. get your facts right

  • No Netscape on C4 was used by the military in the early 90s.

  • open source, open techniques, open minds...

  • LONG LIVE LINUX!

  • yay to BBC for just doing this report!!! and you too medarklord :)

  • Ubuntu is truely amazing... I only used Ubuntu and can use it at an advance level now... I am going to try SUSE Enterprise. I would love to see the difference between Open Source and a business class version e.g SUSE Enterprise. I am aware of Open SUSE.

  • Stick with Ubuntu.

I would suggest avoiding any Linux distro which has signed anything with Microsoft. For more information about this, especially Novell and SUSE, please see BoycottNovell's website and Groklaw.

I would stick firmly with Ubuntu Linux.

  • there are lot's of good linux distro's who have nothing to do with windows velvethandofdarkness, ubuntu is actually one of those who's not really good when it comes to updates (when they release a new kernel update they always, always (!) have bugs.. i use it, so i know, there are better alternatives, although the could be a bit harder in use for "newbies"

  • "ubuntu is actually one of those who's not really good when it comes to updates"

    Hahahhhahahh! Sorry, I disagree.

I am aware of the many Linux distribution choices available, thank you. As far as better alternatives, this is a matter of perception.

  • so you never did an automatic update and got a new kernel yet? if you did, and you got an Nvidia graphic card, you would know the problem. there is no warning, yet they totally mess up your system and a normal user has no idea what to type to reconfigure everything.

  • mind you: i DO totally agree on the "don't use any distro's who signed with microsoft"

  • thanks for the upload

  • Thanks Darklord!

  • but MS SHOULD KNOW UBUNTU IS THE REAL THREAT FOR WINDOWS :)

PEOPLE R LIKING UBUNTU ISN'T IT ??? BUT THEY NEED MULTIMEDIA CODEC PRE INSTALLED in ubuntu :D

OK NEXT PART OF THET VIDEO COMING SOON... KEEP WATCHING AND DON'T FORGET TO SHARE THIS VIDEO LINK WITH OTHE'SSSSSSSSSS ENJOY

  • @medarklord

Linux Mint is Ubuntu, improved. :)

  • salute you Mark Shuttleworth . WHAT A GR8 MAN . M'SOFT did so called "Collaboration" with Novell , Xendros and Linspire. That dosen't mean microsoft won the war :).

those r commercial distros 1 of them (novell) lost the respect from community users. they didn't handshaked WITH M'SOFT b'coz of patent threat(foolish threat ..the didn't even said detail about patent violation ) B'coz of Money . ya end of the day for some people money mean's a looot more then philosophy , respect .... .

  • Great! TY.
