Excellent film but bad history. Stone did get right that JFK died. I'll give him that. But his theories lack factual back up and a misunderstanding of how government works and people behave.

The David Ferrie meme is really bent beyond reality. That guy is a tiny figure in this case, if he even figures at all, which is not likely. Stone has the world revolving around him.

While it's true that a conspiracy killed JFK and another one covered that up, Stone fails in relying on Garrison.

PROOF of front entry bullets on JFK

'Wound of Entry, part 2' at 6:30-6:40 shows the small entry bullet hole into the throat of Kennedy, just as Parkland hospital doctors said it was. This picture is the proof of the frontal shot (certainly not Oswald) BEFORE the tracheotomy.

Notice on the picture the attempt to block out the 2nd entry shot from the front, above the right eye on the hairline. This picture is proof of 2 frontal shots, as the Parkland doctor said it was.

This was probably the most important film of the 20th century. Oliver Stone's was an heroic effort. The film's flaws were an inevitable product of its subject matter, and are really its strengths. Most Americans are not so naive as to believe the Warren Commission fairytale. One need only follow the money -- and the power -- to see who benefited from JFK's death. He had already taken steps to pull troops out of Vietnam and to cut the Federal Reserve Banks out of the US currency system.

The problem isn't simply that Stone missed a few details, but that two major premises of the movie, that Clay Shaw was some evil conspirator and Garrison was an upstanding good guy, are seriously in question. Garrison was a corrupt lawyer who abused his authority, manipulated testimony and intimidated people to produce a one-sided case, not just in general, but in this Clay/JFK case in particular. His own staff testify to this.

I think the whole point of the movie is to bring more light to the fact that the Warren Commission was full of crap and that the governemnt knows more about the actual persons involved then will ever be known. The notion that there were all these mysterious deaths is a theory that is fast becoming a myth. Check out Posner's book, he has an appendix that deals with this issue in detail. The film doesn't just disagree with the WC, it also contradicts certain facts that even some respected conspiracy theorists know to be true.
