@jdonofrio82 actually it is mostly because Ohio is considered the "Heartland of America"...sort of a "heart-shaped" state and if u look at America as if it were a person with arms stretched out, then Ohio would fall somewhere around where a heart should be ;) lol but I think Dayton took that "nickname" because it is where Route 70 meets Route 75...and they are two of the most important and longest highways in America..."Arteries" if you will...and Arteries always cross at the Heart!!!
@tinashebuka89 Bret was from calgary, not montreal. I don't like how Montreal went down, but I don't see what the big deal was about him jobbing to Michaels in canada.
The original plan for that year was for Hogan to hold the title until summerslam and drop it to Bret Hart, do you think he should have just done that, how would he have beat Hogan clean because Hulk would never quit
Look at some of the faces of the WWE and their work on the mic. Hogan had a synergy with Mean Gene, Rock had his comedic synergy with Coach, Austin and JR had a profound bond and respect that showed its way on air. These legends, among others, had their way of making even the interviewer seem important. It makes me think of how John Cena has no such chemistry with anybody on the mic, and if anything he makes even the person interviewing him seem inferior to him when he speaks.
This was Hulk Hogan's last WWE appearance and he will continue to do "Thunder in Paradise" and do a movie (New Line's "Mr. Nanny) and in June 1994, he joined Ted Turner's World Championship Wrestling.
At 1:40, Jimmy Hart actually says the first two lines of the lyrics to Hogan's WCW theme, which we wouldn't hear until one year later. Is it possible these two knew they were going ahead of time?
@bobhansenobc It wouldn't surprise me that they already were making the rounds at WCW and talking to them. Hulk knew he was going to drop the belt to Yokozuna so why not talk with Turner. And Jimmy Hart did in fact write/owned "American Made", Hulk's WCW theme song. I heard back in '91 after Hulk lost to Warrior that when he made his comeback against Slaughter, they toyed with changing his entrance theme but decided that "Real American" was way too recognizable with Hulk. Hart took it to WCW.
@OreckBoy1 Hulk has admitted to meeting Eric Bischoff at Disney/MGM Studios where WCW and his show Thunder in Paradise were taped. After his retirement. He didn't think about getting back into wrestling until him and Bischoff met.
He's not on roids here at all. He'd lost a good fifteen, twenty pounds after he got off steroids in '91. He lost another forty pounds between Wrestlemania 8 and Wrestlemania 9 when he was off for a year when the steroid scandal heated up.
@JP888481 thats what i mean. he wasn't on steroids any more because look at the results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a real live he-man or incredible hulk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he is huge and he is RAGING because he is coming down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The withdraw symptoms from steroids make for THE BEST wrestling promos. Ask Vince McMahon!!!!!!!!!!! He made a fortune off them in the late 80s and early 90s. Too bad Chris Benoit SNAPPED before he had a chance to do any real mic work.
Hulk Hogan Was Is and Always will be the Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth, Muhammad Ali and Michael Jackson of Professional Wrestling! even though he's in the TNA now; he has the WWE in his red blood!
Lol, the first part of Jimmy Hart's Promo are the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's WCW theme "American Made" and the last part he said was in that song too. Lol.
I really don't like how Hogan lost to Yoko here, it really ruined the WM9 ending. People like to bitch about that ending alot but this is what ruined it for me.
@dwibs93 It had some great moments man, but I will tell you the fun and the enjoyment still continued after Hogan left WWF and we had the Attitude era. Even in today's day and age there's good in WWE as we know it today, I am not as big a fan of the current generation, but I respect it.
@RonaldJoseCarlos thats what I feel, i still remember the attitude era even though i was 4 when it began. Yeah i wasn't in that demographic but I don't care.
Hogan did good in this match in my mind, athletic wise. He was slimmer and I thought he looked good with some of the weight off him at this time since we were so used to the 300 poundish Hulkster
@The80srox I think in hingsight that was his let down, he wanted to slam Yokozuna but trimmed down for the match, it was amazing how he'd shrunk between WM8 and this
@Krillep Nah just those two appearances at the event were it, he was at the first edition of this PPV and the last...and lost both times...but in spectacular fashion.
The state of America seems to strangely match Hogan's own fortunes. Look at the shit America is in right now, and all the bad stuff going on around Hogan? Maybe his regrouping in TNA is a sign the American economy is going to stabilise
@adheckle hehe yeah but it was too funny to see him sell the flash bulb explosion to that balding head of his !!!! The perfect way for Hulkamania to take a break from the WWF!
I loved Hulk Hogan as a kid. He gave us someone to cheer for and to believe in. We know wrestling is entertainment and that Hogan has flaws, but that's irrelevant. Hogan was not afraid to say that he loved the USA, which will draw laughs and snide remarks from arrogant elitists today. His message of getting in shape, praying to God for strength, taking vitamins, and believing in oneself was powerful. No athlete or entertainer today comes close to Hogan during his prime.
"This is the eye of the Hulkster! And this is the face of the Hulkster! and this is the face of the Hulkster's on Jimmy Hart's jacket, brother!" I swear I thought that was gonna go on forever.
I can't quite explain it, but something was off with this promo. Hulk came across as tired to me; he really didn't have the same energy and excitement in his voice or the same glint in his eyes as he did in his heyday. I guess as much as people now say that the WWF was getting sick of Hulk Hogan, Hulk Hogan himself really needed a break from the WWF around this time.
Incidentally, are Jimmy Hart's words the direct inspiration behind his WCW theme?
It always bothered me Hogan never defended the title or appeared on TV in any matches between WM 9 and KOTR 93. I did like though how Hogan showed up at KOTR looking slimmer than usual, and we saw a quicker Hogan. I remember some even thinking Hogan was over the hill at this time in 1993 but I disagree. He still had it then, although it also would of been nice to see him have the planned face vs face match with Bret where Hogan passed the torch
I never cared either about that whole "this guy's a 5 or 6 or 7 time champion" hype. Big deal. Only shows he couldn't hold it that long. It's almost like they intentionally make today's wrestlers win and lose the title multiple times just so they get that recognition.
@w6p7a As if they are trying to find a way to make today's wrestlers look like they measure up to the legends of the past. Hogan held the title for over 4 consecutive years and a total of nearly 5 years in the 80's alone. To me that is a much more impressive feat!
Bret next to the Undertaker are two of the best workers in my opinion. They know how to make anybody look great in the ring. Same goes for HBK too though, and I love how people say HBK is selfish and didn't job to anybody..lets look at the facts. how many times has HBK lost to Randy Orton.
Washed up? If he was washed he'd never sell out crowds like he did, his promos never would've gotten people out of their seats and acutally believe his words. Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, Great showmen, great entertainers, but if you ask me why Scott Hall was never champ or Kevin Nash wasn't in WCW, they didn't have the full package. Hogan had that full package that made him a good in WWF and good in WCW. please you're the one whos "Washed up" and tell austin hes too.
Yeah I just remember that afterwards I made that comment 7 months ago. Thanks again for correcting me. Most of those title shots came during Nash's Time as WCW Head Booker.
@DeathAdder83 I agree. When they said "5 time champion" it was like, WOW! Now, the belts change hands too quickly. I think the fact that here are so many PPV's also play into that. Back in the day, RAW and Superstars was it. However, they hardly changed titles on those shows. The build up between ppv's was great. There would be 2-3 months between each.
Just like it's common knowledge that you're a one track minded, internet smark...trust me Hogan ain't the only Superstar that's ever been power hungry. Not going to say he's innocent, but unless you were there to witness all of the backstage antics, many of which that probably happened before you were even born, don't try selling your whole smark agenda on this video. If you want to start bitching about Hogan's ego go post your own video about it, moron...
Post hogan era wrestlemania saw the next four wrestlemanias have worse buyrates. Without Hogan receiving main billing in WM9, there was a significant drop in the buyrates from wm8.
@mongoose704 Good points good man, sorry for long delay in response...I wish we had more posters like you, instead of people that say backstage this and backstage that!
Exactly the truth my friend. WM9-WM12 had soem of the worst buyrates. I must say Hogan wasn't a good wrestler but dammit anything that had his name on it from 1984-1992 you knew it was gonna sell out. Just his name strikes money for himself and vince. Austin's name is no where near as popular as Hogan.
@Wheels5586 Good catch, my feeling is that Hogan and Jimmy were thinking about what they were gonna do since Real American was snatched up by WWF and they couldn't bring it to WCW. So when they were thinking about coming up with something to work around the legalities of not using that song anymore they probably thought of this promo. Even as a kid I thought the seeds of the WCW theme Hogan had being planted in WWF was neat.
The only positive in this promo is that Jimmy Hart is a triple crown winning manager. He managed Greg Valentine and Honky Tonk Man (IC champs), Hart Foundation and Nasty Boys (Tag-team champs) and in 1993 managing the WWF champ.
Hogan looks over the hill here? You must be kidding ha. He still looked like the man here but I hope AJ doesn't job to him god ha. I'm tuning in and watching that show and that will be the first time I have watched wrestling in 3-5 years. WWE sucks so bad today and TNA actually is given me a little reason to want to check and see what they are up too. If Hogan Politics the fuck out of though TNA is in for trouble, especially since Russo's goofy ass is still there.
Saying Hogan's the greatest hero in the history of the planet is a disgrace to heroes, he's an ego maniac who doesn't give anyone else a chance in the spotlight. He would never job to anyone cleanly, lose the belt cleanly, sell moves, and he always had to be the headline of PPVs
@OtorresFitness WWF didn't make money again until the Steroid Scandal passed and Vince went back to steroid freaks (most of the guys during the attitude era were on roids.)
Wrestling has been, and always will be about FREAKS.
Not dissing the "freaks" & what not. Those are the ones who make money in the bizz (unless you're talented like HBK or The Hitman). But in this time in wrestling history, the WWF almost went bankrupt. They tried to pull an ace out of their ass giving Hogan a win at Wrestlemania VIII, but since it backfired on them, and Hogan was leaving, they took the belt away from him ASAP.
Lose the belt? He lost the belt to Savage, Undertaker, Warrior, Sting, Goldeberg, Yokozuna. Chance in spotlight? Warrior had the spotlight, had the fans but wanna know why he didn't make it as much as Hogan did? HE COULDN'T CONNECT TO THE FANS LIKE HOGAN DID! Macho Man had the title twice (1988-1989, 1992) and guess what? He was popular, had the fans, had the spotlight, but he couldn't connect to the fans like Hogan. I'm sorry but you were the main draw of the company, TBC.
@kidd1023 I'm sorry but if you were the main draw of the company and knew people would come to see that event BECAUSE of your name only, You'd want to headline. Its not like Hogan had any say of being placed in a match before or after the real main event. Did Hogan ask to be in the main event at WM6? Did he ask to be the headliner at WM3? no, but he was popular and the main draw and Vince thought, Hogan's name = Money, revune, merchandise. Austin headlined and still didnt get buyrates.
Hulk Hogan the best actor, wrestler of all times man. Back in the days acting was better, nowadays too many bad actors like Jhon Cena, sucks at acting. Chris Gerico does better acting.
bah. you ever see Surburban Commando and Santa with Muscles. he's not good in those films those are way more than razzie's their bullshit. now the rock is a great actor (The rundown, gridiron gang, Doom).
Rundown? Gridiron Gang? Doom? Like really some of his "best" movies were shit. They didn't even make the big time. Hogan's "crappy" movies were still enjoyable then the rocks. And don't even get me started with Austin's movies. Just because he played a role of being a badass, you got to implement that into your movie character? one word, EGO.
Best of the Best EVER on the mic 10-1: 10. Stone Cold Steve Austin - Austin 3:16 9. Mick Foley 8. Rowdy Roddy Piper 7. Arn Anderson 6. Jake "The Snake" Roberts 5. Shawn Michaels 3(tie)Superstar Billy Graham - extremely influential even 30 years later; the white Muhammad Ali; Preacher in real life. 3.(tie)American Dream Dusty Rhodes - too hard to separate Big Dust and Graham. 2. The Rock - funny, original and charismatic 1. Ric Flair - simply the best; never did a bad promo
Yes sir. Ric Flair promos (the NWA/WCW ones) should be required viewing for all wannabe wrestlers. He gives the master's class on how to cut a promo in wrestling. First, put yourself over. Second, put your opponent over. Mix in charisma, humor and sometimes anger and arrogance. Put your company over. He never ever cut a bad promo. Flair's promos were so good that we use to hang on every word and still want more. The Horsemen promos will always be classics. Curious, who would you put #1 and why?
Thank you. I didn't take my Top 20 lightly and put a lot of research into it. Watching the promos bought back lots of great memories. Finding Superstar made me redo my original Top 10. His promos were that good. He's the reason that McMahon calls his wrestlers Superstars. My only regrets are that i couldn't find a place for Macho, Gino Hernandez and maybe Ted DiBiase.
Youre right though. Alot of thought needs to go into a list like that. I always liked Savage but his promos were pretty out there. DiBiase was a great heel talker and Jake Roberts could do it all. I would probably have jake as number 1 due to his charisma and the psychology he put into his promos. But thats just my personal choice.
Horsemen.... lets see the Horsemen were a mighty team no doubt about it, but can you really say they were number one? While Hogan was in the WWF making his name known BY HIMSELF, Ric flair was promoting a "second class" company. Hogan was promoting the WWF as being the best of the best, Flair wasn't original. Flair got his "woo" from someone working and they kept saying "woo". Horsemen from WCW days came in second place to a Faction ran by Hogan NWO.
@romans52345 Bret Hart and Hogan are widely considered to be two of the worst wrestlers ever at cutting promos. I would add Savage before these two and i didn't even consider Marblemouth Savage.
@romans52345 It's widely super retard. They call them dictionaries for a reason. And it's awesome. And it's Flair....who the hell taught you how to spell? Misspelled posts lack all credibility.
@TheLuscious whaat on earth r u on about hogan had charisma like no1 else n his promo's where some of the greatest cut in wrestling history sure this promo may not be that good but all u got 2 do is take a look at his promo's in the 80s then say he can't cut a promo
@wrestledon He did the exact same promo every single time b/c he was that bad. In the 80s it was no comparison. Flair's promos blew Hogan's out of the water every single time.
@TheLuscious look i never compared hogans promo's 2 anyone elses all im saying is that his promo's aren't as bad as you say they are because if they where really that bad then hogan wouldnt have been one of the biggest money making draws in wrestling history where as bret hart i could agree with because he even admits himself he aint 1 for cutting promo's he even needed 2 wear the glasses cuz he was 2 shy 2 face the crowd while cutting a promo
@wrestledon Hoga's popularity may have something to do with his ability to draw. But it has NOTHING to do with his ability to cut a promo. Hogan was egregiously selfish. All he ever cared about was putting himself over. One of the main parts of a promo is putting your opponent over. His promos were all one-dimensional.
@TheLuscious true in a lot of ways u r right but in some scences u wrong i mean who doesnt put themselves over in a promo n yh hogan is kind of selfish but all im saying is his promo's from the 80s especially are not as crap as u make them out 2 be
@wrestledon No there isn't any kind of selfish about it. Hogan is super selfish. He thinks that he is wrestling and that just isn't the case. Listen to any Flair promo. He always put his opponent. That's why Flair is the best ever at cutting promos. I've never seen an athlete in any sport more selfish than Hogan. There is a reason every pro wrestler loses his last match: to show that he is not bigger than pro wrestling.
@TheLuscious look i know that yh hogan is selfish and flair isnt obviously we all know that flair put over many stars like luger, sting and steamboat and yh flair's promos are probz the greatest but hogan really is the greatest of all time because he is the one that made wrestling a household name he made wrestling as big as it is today or else wrestling would have just went in 2 complete failure by the 90s so hogan has every right 2 say he is wrestling look at cena n hhh aint they selfish

Empyre18 1 year ago
It always bothered me Hogan never defended the title or appeared on TV in any matches between WM 9 and KOTR 93. I did like though how Hogan showed up at KOTR looking slimmer than usual, and we saw a quicker Hogan. I remember some even thinking Hogan was over the hill at this time in 1993 but I disagree. He still had it then, although it also would of been nice to see him have the planned face vs face match with Bret where Hogan passed the torch
The80srox 1 year ago
I never cared either about that whole "this guy's a 5 or 6 or 7 time champion" hype. Big deal. Only shows he couldn't hold it that long. It's almost like they intentionally make today's wrestlers win and lose the title multiple times just so they get that recognition.
w6p7a 1 year ago
@w6p7a As if they are trying to find a way to make today's wrestlers look like they measure up to the legends of the past. Hogan held the title for over 4 consecutive years and a total of nearly 5 years in the 80's alone. To me that is a much more impressive feat!
w6p7a 1 year ago
Bret next to the Undertaker are two of the best workers in my opinion. They know how to make anybody look great in the ring. Same goes for HBK too though, and I love how people say HBK is selfish and didn't job to anybody..lets look at the facts. how many times has HBK lost to Randy Orton.

Even in the NWO, before the sauce got to him, Scott Hall was killing Hogan and Nash when it came to cutting promos. Hogan = washed up.
TheLuscious 1 year ago
@TheLuscious

Haha, 5 time champion...........back when the belts kind of meant something. I mean how many times has Edge been "champion"?
DeathAdder83 1 year ago

@RonaldJoseCarlos
VInce made money with Hogan.
Hogan made money for Vince.
Post hogan era wrestlemania saw the next four wrestlemanias have worse buyrates. Without Hogan receiving main billing in WM9, there was a significant drop in the buyrates from wm8.
Ego? No.
Money? Yes.

@Wheels5586 LOL good call man that was word for word!
KTMRanger0305 1 year ago
@Wheels5586 Good catch, my feeling is that Hogan and Jimmy were thinking about what they were gonna do since Real American was snatched up by WWF and they couldn't bring it to WCW. So when they were thinking about coming up with something to work around the legalities of not using that song anymore they probably thought of this promo. Even as a kid I thought the seeds of the WCW theme Hogan had being planted in WWF was neat.

The only positive in this promo is that Jimmy Hart is a triple crown winning manager. He managed Greg Valentine and Honky Tonk Man (IC champs), Hart Foundation and Nasty Boys (Tag-team champs) and in 1993 managing the WWF champ.

trentacid008 2 years ago
Saying Hogan's the greatest hero in the history of the planet is a disgrace to heroes, he's an ego maniac who doesn't give anyone else a chance in the spotlight. He would never job to anyone cleanly, lose the belt cleanly, sell moves, and he always had to be the headline of PPVs

@OtorresFitness WWF didn't make money again until the Steroid Scandal passed and Vince went back to steroid freaks (most of the guys during the attitude era were on roids.)
Wrestling has been, and always will be about FREAKS.
mongoose704 1 year ago
@mongoose704
OtorresFitness 1 year ago 2
@kidd1023

Chris Gerico does better acting.

bah. you ever see Surburban Commando and Santa with Muscles. he's not good in those films those are way more than razzie's their bullshit. now the rock is a great actor (The rundown, gridiron gang, Doom).
undertaker1994100 2 years ago 2
@undertaker1994100
Rundown? Gridiron Gang? Doom? Like really some of his "best" movies were shit. They didn't even make the big time. Hogan's "crappy" movies were still enjoyable then the rocks. And don't even get me started with Austin's movies. Just because he played a role of being a badass, you got to implement that into your movie character? one word, EGO.

they can't be as bad at acting as you are at spelling... Who in the blue hell is Gerico??? or Jhon?.... What is your IQ?

good list, but ric flair number one?
breaktrap0307 2 years ago
TheLuscious 2 years ago
its too hard to pick whos number 1 but ur top ten list is spot on, jake the snake or mick foley always gave me goosebumps
breaktrap0307 2 years ago
TheLuscious 2 years ago
Youre right though. Alot of thought needs to go into a list like that. I always liked Savage but his promos were pretty out there. DiBiase was a great heel talker and Jake Roberts could do it all. I would probably have jake as number 1 due to his charisma and the psychology he put into his promos. But thats just my personal choice.
1981bigdee 2 years ago
@TheLuscious
Horsemen from WCW days came in second place to a Faction ran by Hogan NWO.
tonshaad1230 1 year ago
Youve left Hogan off but put Foley in there? He was a good promo but better than Hogan? No way.
1981bigdee 2 years ago
@TheLuscious where is Hogan in this list? and Bret Hart should be number 1!!!!!
romans52345 1 year ago
@romans52345 Bret Hart and Hogan are widely considered to be two of the worst wrestlers ever at cutting promos. I would add Savage before these two and i didn't even consider Marblemouth Savage.
TheLuscious 1 year ago
@TheLuscious widley considered by you,,,, and savage was awsome too....Flar has always been jealous of hogan....
romans52345 1 year ago

@TheLuscious you claim i'm dumb??
romans52345 1 year ago
@TheLuscious whaat on earth r u on about hogan had charisma like no1 else n his promo's where some of the greatest cut in wrestling history sure this promo may not be that good but all u got 2 do is take a look at his promo's in the 80s then say he can't cut a promo
wrestledon 1 year ago
@wrestledon He did the exact same promo every single time b/c he was that bad. In the 80s it was no comparison. Flair's promos blew Hogan's out of the water every single time.
TheLuscious 1 year ago
@TheLuscious yeah that is why Hogan drew more money.......
romans52345 1 year ago
@TheLuscious look i never compared hogans promo's 2 anyone elses all im saying is that his promo's aren't as bad as you say they are because if they where really that bad then hogan wouldnt have been one of the biggest money making draws in wrestling history where as bret hart i could agree with because he even admits himself he aint 1 for cutting promo's he even needed 2 wear the glasses cuz he was 2 shy 2 face the crowd while cutting a promo
wrestledon 1 year ago
@wrestledon Hoga's popularity may have something to do with his ability to draw. But it has NOTHING to do with his ability to cut a promo. Hogan was egregiously selfish. All he ever cared about was putting himself over. One of the main parts of a promo is putting your opponent over. His promos were all one-dimensional.
TheLuscious 1 year ago
@TheLuscious true in a lot of ways u r right but in some scences u wrong i mean who doesnt put themselves over in a promo n yh hogan is kind of selfish but all im saying is his promo's from the 80s especially are not as crap as u make them out 2 be
wrestledon 1 year ago
@wrestledon No there isn't any kind of selfish about it. Hogan is super selfish. He thinks that he is wrestling and that just isn't the case. Listen to any Flair promo. He always put his opponent. That's why Flair is the best ever at cutting promos. I've never seen an athlete in any sport more selfish than Hogan. There is a reason every pro wrestler loses his last match: to show that he is not bigger than pro wrestling.
TheLuscious 1 year ago
@TheLuscious look i know that yh hogan is selfish and flair isnt obviously we all know that flair put over many stars like luger, sting and steamboat and yh flair's promos are probz the greatest but hogan really is the greatest of all time because he is the one that made wrestling a household name he made wrestling as big as it is today or else wrestling would have just went in 2 complete failure by the 90s so hogan has every right 2 say he is wrestling look at cena n hhh aint they selfish
wrestledon 1 year ago
