Hey, what do you use to edit video. I have the Sx1 but editing h264 on the PC works bad. Do you decode the video to some other format before editing? If so what codec and settings? I still want to edit full HD without losing to much quality if any...
@perihelion74 I use a mac to edit all my footage. I know for sure you have to convert all the video files into something your editing software can easily accept and playback. For Mac its AIC aka Apple Intermediate Codec. It retains most if not all of the original data, and it can be edited smoothly in iMovie or Final Cut Express / Pro. For Windows, check which codec your editing programs accepts the best. Then download "MPEG STREAMCLIP" To do a batch convert on that codec. I hope this helps
@hejniclas I think this test video demonstrated how well the SX-1 with image stabilization along with a steady hand and proper shooting form. I avoided shooting full zoom without support, either leaning against a railing, or using my elbows as a bi-pod against my knees on a seated position. or rest the camera on your knees and tilt the swivel LCD screen to frame your shot. Are you considering purchasing this camera or still considering other options?
I've had a chance to become more familiar with the SX1 and am extremely pleased with its performance on both video and stills. Unfortunately, I'm having to build a new PC so I can edit HD video. The old (5 years) pc still handled SD video fine, but isn't powerful enough for HD. I'll upload some video as soon as I can after getting it built. Thanks.
If this film is evidence of film shooting without a stabiliser or steadicam balance, it's certainly not shaky looking. I'd be very pleased to take such still film, and, generally, your film not alien to T.V. style footage. I like the real element also. T.V. filmers have spent so much money, and then they spend a lot of time and effort, making their films smooth, that what they shoot can look sterile. Your film looks spontaneous, real life footage. It's really nice. Thank you for sharing.
<<< ... When people see a T.V. camera with a boom or whatever, the people in the film walk differently. Some either smile, when they wouldn't have, or go intraverted when they were free and easy.
The great thing about seeing films from consumer grade cameras (home vid. cams.) in high definition these days is that it's much more real snapshots. People are used to being photographed videoed by home cameras, they don't bat an eyelid.
It's great to hear that Portishead song again. It's lovely.
Thanks Leco, using this camera that almost resembles an SLR cam and can record in HD is definetly better than a more expensive dedicated full HD camcorder.
I think especially now these days, when peopel see HD camera, they become more conscious, because of the detail it captures. but with this normal camera, people act naturally, which is perfect when tryign to record in crowded areas. Thanks for you feed back!

Amazing quality. I just got my SX1 and I don't think I'm getting anywhere near this quality yet.
