They became Witches and Warlocks and they cast spells on their loving parents so they would be able to play D&D. Some killed themselves, others murdered their friends in a unconscious daze while seeing them as monsters in their heads. In essence their friends were the monsters. Still others went on to be drug and alcohol addicts and some are in prison. That evil game. If only they knew Jesus. :(

Most of the "Kid commits suicide over D&D" stories are all distortions of a small handful of actual events, such as the James Dallas Egbert "Steamtunnel" incident. Mike Stackpole did a good rebutle many years ago showing that suicide by gamers in actually far lower than the general populace! In other words, RPGs actually prevent suicide!

They were all anecdotal and in the end were all proved to be hoaxes, often pushed by BADD (Bothered About Dungeons and Dragons) run by a woman who's son committed suicide and blamed DnD. Easier then blaming herself for not seeing her son had problems I guess.
No one ever killed anyone because their characters died. They just made new characters and continued playing.

@danlublock I know there have been suicides over many mundane, nerdy things. I'm not really sure D&D is one of them. In modern MMO's you get a lot more attached to your characters than you do in D&D. It's actually quite difficult to form any real care over what happens to your fictional character in D&D. I can't see anyone committing suicide over ANYTHING that happened to a D&D character. Perhaps if something happened with the real life group that they play with, but not the game itself.

Computer games have made RPG's more mainstream and less of an image of 'weird games played by weirdos' and as a consequence Christian concern over RPG's seems to have faded somewhat.

Whether or not D&D uses "real spells" is of no issue to me. I personally enjoy RPGs that merge Mystic Thought to Roleplaying... we still don't cast "real spells" but we put more thought into it than "I shoot a bolt of power from my palm." Either way, none of this matters; it's my life and I enjoy it. Jack Chick seems to oppose ANYTHING someone else enjoys. Even if RPGs were the work of the devil, if that's what I want to do then that's what I will do, regardless of tyrants like Jack Chick.

So the fact that 'Dark Dungeons' is full of, at best, mistakes on his part, and at worst, explicit slander concerning the game of Dungeons and Dragons, doesn't make you question the accuracy of the portrayal in the tract?
No, D&D doesn't use spells, you're right, it's dice and graph paper. The only thing someone does when casting a spell is give a brief description, such as "I raise my hand, and a bolt of energy flies out at the monster." (and that's just the brass tacks version without more creative language)
My character was a cleric too, but I found myself drawn more and more to the one true God because of it. I went to seminary. Now I am about to become a cleric of the most high. These guys are silly.

This paticular one, he's going on a few real stories that happend in the late 70's early to mid 80's where Teens and kids Actually DID KILL THEMSELVES over the Characters of the game dieing. Whats more ridiculouse? Him Writting a tract based on what happend to try to help and reach people to get them closer to god? Or the sad fact that people really did this? YOU think about it.

They were all anecdotal and in the end were all proved to be hoaxes, often pushed by BADD (Bothered About Dungeons and Dragons) run by a woman who's son committed suicide and blamed DnD. Easier then blaming herself for not seeing her son had problems I guess.
No one ever killed anyone because their characters died. They just made new characters and continued playing.

All of those alleged cases were completely fabricated by Patricia Pulling as part of her anti-D&D crusade and debunked years ago and many of these flat-out lies were taken from a novel by Rona Jaffe called 'Mazes and Monsters' which was inspired by a series of urban legends. None of it actually happened.

@danlublock I know there have been suicides over many mundane, nerdy things. I'm not really sure D&D is one of them. In modern MMO's you get a lot more attached to your characters than you do in D&D. It's actually quite difficult to form any real care over what happens to your fictional character in D&D. I can't see anyone committing suicide over ANYTHING that happened to a D&D character. Perhaps if something happened with the real life group that they play with, but not the game itself.

The only reason kids playing a game focused on the imagination would kill themselves, others or cause serious harm to themselves or others would be because they came from a bad home life and were not mature enough and mentally strong enough to deal with it.
I would bet anything that much of the deaths and injuries of some playing D&D had drug use involved. Far more kids playing D&D survived, were not hurt and turned out good adults with families of their own.

Until recently, I used to distribute his anti-Catholic litter-ature, but I repented from such a form of slander. I'm glad that the Lord used the Catholic author Patrick Madrid to make me come to my senses.
Though I never converted to Catholicism, I have joined a Christian ecumenical movement, in which Catholics are honored as my brethren in Christ.

I guess it has its roots in the Middle Ages with the Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation.

Whether or not D&D uses "real spells" is of no issue to me. I personally enjoy RPGs that merge Mystic Thought to Roleplaying... we still don't cast "real spells" but we put more thought into it than "I shoot a bolt of power from my palm." Either way, none of this matters; it's my life and I enjoy it. Jack Chick seems to oppose ANYTHING someone else enjoys. Even if RPGs were the work of the devil, if that's what I want to do then that's what I will do, regardless of tyrants like Jack Chick.

Not in the way most Christians demonize it...There are people under the Wiccan religion, which mean they worship nature and are in reality a peace-loving religion, and would not use "Magick" to harm anyone.

Chick uses fear and hate to draw and tempt you to embrace his SICK cult or sect or movement or whatever.
So don't believe a word Jack Chick says; he's NOT jesus; on the contrary, he has a forked tongue.

Jack Chick is a protestant extremist; no different from muslim extremists. I've read his publications; and they SICKEN me.
There was one that positively promotes anti-catholicism (I'm a Catholic) and makes ridiculous accusations that the Catholic Church are communists, nazis, antichrists etc. Can you seriously believe that???

I do agree with You that Catholics are not Nazis, Communists, etc. And Jack Chick is an Extrimest, and anti-catholicism is wrong, but why do Catholics worship Mary??? I'm not trying to offend I would just like to know.

We don't worship Mary; we believe in Mary and consider her as an ambassador to us and God for when we pray.
Besides the fact that she's Jesus' mother, Mary was a very significant person in Jesus' life; from his birth to his death. That's why she's an important figure to the Catholic Church.

We venerate Mary, not worship. She's the first disciple and the mother of god, she holds a special place above the other saints.

I don't find the comment offensive. You just simply want to know. Btw, we don't WORSHIP Mary. Jesus died on the cross, she didnt. But it is true that we see her as a paragon of faith and commitment when she accepted God's request to bear the son of God. And the rest is history.

And yet, Chick is saying that Mary is NOT a mediatrix and that she cried because Chick wrongly thought Catholics were worshiping her and not God. I can't take Chick seriously. A friend I speak to on Yahoo(he's Jewish) even called the tract about the Holocaust "blasphemy" because a survivor of the Holocaust abandoned his Jewish faith to become saved. And they made Catholics once again the bad guy by saying that they backed the Nazis.

Did he even look at the DnD books? Those arent' spells. they are algebraic equations.
Having taken Algebra as well, I can tell you that that never summoned demons either.

They're a load of BS maybe? Using this one as an example, someone would have to already be pretty mentally unstable to kill themselves over the death of a fictional character, there is no real magic in D&D, nor does it teach you to even do the magic in the game and who the hell couldn't take a break from a *turn based* game to speak to a friend on the phone.

Anyone who takes theological advice from a comic book was already emotionally unstable to begin with. Only in America could such an absurd invention be propagated and taken seriously.
Anyone who believes what they read in a Chick Comic is a fool, and anyone who seriously distributes them is a tool. (not to mention a litterbug) I find them and keep them, to keep them out of the hands of the weak-minded.

KweenOHearts is correct the name of the ex-Jesuit is Alberto Rivera and I apologize for the miss spelling. But KweenOHearts is incorrect about the existence of Alberto as a priest. Like all rouge agents his existence has been denied by those he turned against. Admitting he had access to these secrets would be tantamount to admitting they where true. It is always better to discredit then Eliminate.

This comic made me laugh, I visited Chick's site just for this a few years ago and shared it with my friends to laugh at. Anyone who takes this seriously doesn't need to worry so much about God's judgement -how the hell can they even look in the mirror?

I sent you amessage but I believe it was a comment I posted .Anyway I already told you that language you use is not the language that Jesus would want you to use .
