Although I am very much against elephants in zoos, at least the Wild Animal Park has significantly more room for them than does a typical zoo. They need miles and miles to roam. Having said that it doesn't change the fact that this little guy is a cutie!!

I love San Diego Zoo. To all the posters who say these ellies were deprived of a free life in the wild, you are wrong. The original group of elephant parents were rescued from a culling (shot to death in cold blood). This zoo saved them, and they have been breeding successfully with 5 babies now. There's no perfect situation in the modern world, but this is a great compromise. They were genuinely saved and to read nasty, uninformed comments reflects badly on OUR species..

That is just a side holding yard where the elephants go when the keepers clean up the main 3 acre yard. Also, they keep the babies in there until it is safe for them to be out in the large enclosure. This usually occurs after a few weeks.
