  • pure or not pure race..we love our dogs and our chows....

    what's the matter !

  • This dog probably IS a purebred Chow but just a badly bred one. Sorry for your loss by the way...In what way was he aggressive?

  • For some reason, this video has sparked some sort of idiotic discussion about whether a dog has "pure" bloodlines. In addition, there are some extremely strong opinions being voiced which are not based in any form of reality. Due to puppy mills breeding dogs which ARE AKC registered, but which are NOT within breed standard, there are a number of REGISTERED CHOWS which are not up to the standard of the breed. FACT: This IS a registered Chow Chow. OPINION: Puppy Mills should be banned.

  • @OfficerMarisa Its hilarious how people cant understand what you write. Honestly who cares if its purebred?

  • I grew up with chows, and this is not a purebred.

  • As I have said in numerous other comments, this chow came from a puppy mill. She had AKC papers, but was obviously substandard as far as quality. She passed away recently, and frankly the quality of her breeding was the least important thing in the world to me.

She was my best friend ever, and after 16 years of companionship, I could ask for nothing more.

  • This isn't a purebred chow anyway, you can easily tell it's a mixed breed.

  • Again, as I have said in several earlier comments, this chow had AKC papers, but was from a puppy mill.

Personally, I could care less what breed she was. She was my best friend for 16 years.

  • Well, she was still a beautiful dog. I'm sorry...I don't know why I wrote that that day. She is very close to being pure chow. I am sorry to hear about your loss...Last year I lost my ferret of 7 years. It broke my heart.

  • Yeah, I agree with you. It dosen`t matter the quality of breed she was, she was your best friend and she loved you unconditionally, and that`s all that matters.

  • well some of them r pretty anyway

  • my chow looks somewhat like this one, but he's smaller and he has NEVER bit, growled, or shown any aggression at all towards people. this one is cute, too bad he's mean =(

  • She is only mean to other animals. She is just fine with people. Most chows I have met/owned DO have a serious prey-drive. Since she has gotten older-- she is almost 14-- some of her interest in terrorizing other animals has diminished.

  • the video is like watching a suspense film!

  • to those who have commented on this chow's features; there are 2 types of chows, domestic and european. the european chow has the snub nose and folds on the muzzle. the domestic chow has a longer snout and a few other minor differences. all chows are beautiful, regardless of their type, as is this one.

  • I agree. This particular chow (who is still going strong despite being VERY old) was the product of a puppy mill. Her "quality" is beyond poor, but personality-wise, she is very chow-like.

  • Please refer to the AKC and BKC breed standards. You have been misinformed.

  • who cares if the dog its original or not when you care for your animals i does not matter i had one just like this one he died a week ago and i loved the dog never cared if it was an original breed or not.

  • very nice, I do love him and the music too...

he makes me think to a wolf...

    very beautiful

kisses of niki, female about the same age..

  • this looks just like my chow

  • I LOVE CHOW CHO...THIS IS MY LIFE!!!

  • He's adorable, but he's got some shepherd blood I bet.

  • I have a chow mix who is part Chessie--I got her when she was 6 weeks old. I trained her not to bite--and she doesn't--but she is aggressive to strangers. I walk her using a shoulder harness and she lives in the house. My son, age 12, can do just about what he wants with her and she's okay with it. Chows are odd sometimes.

  • the nose seems a little pointy for a chow chow

  • Thats not a chow, it has chow in it, but thats not a purebred dog.

  • you're all nuts! this dog looks like a wolf; some kind of beast; hence, the music. these types of dogs are the type who turn on their owners. i read about this all the time. the gvt in canada should ban:

pitbulls, rottweilers, akitas, german sheppards, and, sorry, folks, chows. these are the dogs who always seem to get loose and maul a little child or small dog.

  • you need to speak to a chow breeder, there not aggressive at all, its bad owners that make them that way, like any breed of dog, yes some are more aggressive then others but it all comes down to training and the owners. chows are not on the list of dogs to look out for, but like any sensible person you sould always used caution when approaching any strange dog.

  • IamTaia: everything you said makes some since, but i think breeding dogs from one family of dogs is incest, which makes some purebreds more dangerous than mix breeds. but some good dogs just lose it sometime and owners end up shooting their pets.

why not adopt an abused greyhound?

    ;)

thanks, IamTaia. i guess what you said is true in most cases, but i'm still scared of these dogs. lol

  • Hehe well they are supposed to be intimedating. but most breeder make sure that the dogs are not incest.... well at least the breeders in australia do, i have adopted a dog hehe not a grey hound she dingo crossed australian shepard and shes my baby hehe.

  • IamTaia - well, i certainly hope you're enjoying your baby.

    take good care of her.

    ;)

  • for sure she is my life my best friend and great member of my family. Thanks :) :D

  • june 4th is national chow chow day because thats when my chow chow mechga(means lilttle bear) passed on she was the most incredible dog i knew!!

  • i think this must be an euroasier, not chow

  • This probably is a purebred Chow. There are rough-haired chows (the fluffy ones) and smooth-haired Chows, both recognized. This one appears to be the latter.

The best way to get a friendly Chow is to raise it by hand, which means after only a few days on Mama, it's removed and bottle fed by several people (not just one person). Also, raising it from birth around children and other pets are the #1 way (besides bottle feeding) to create a tolerant and sociable Chow.

  • i love my chow chow its fur is snow white and its a girl and her ears r cinnamon colored so we named her synamon

  • You chow is a noble lion!

I have 2 chows and both are the sweetest most docile and most dependable dogs. They are the treasures of our lives.

  • It looks like a very experienced KING! Such a fantastic dog! Very, very beautiful, congratulations!!!!!

  • chow chow dogs are very easily made aggressive - they're wonderful sensitive dogs and when not treated with enough respect they turn aggressive. They are super smart, eager to please dogs and they need more affection that other dogs. This chow looks to be mixed with husky or malamute or something. Gorgeous beast. I have a chow/golden mix - best dog I've ever had aside from the Chow/Blue healer I had. Chow mixes are fabulous dogs.

  • my chow is not agressive at all. i dont understand it.

  • thats not a pure bred chow. if someone sold it to u and said it was u got ripped off.

  • A beautiful Dog I have a chow chow before but he died 7 yrs ago

  • i think he is little scary in some photos! im sry :D

  • beautiful chow chow... HES SO CUTE!

  • Beautiful dog. I worked for an elderly lady who had a chow. He'd greet me each morning and actually take my wrist in his mouth & lead me to the front door. He's a big loveable teddy bear. Really miss him.

  • i hate chow chows they are the ugliest dogs ecer

  • gbsuck dont make me take dis to da monkey bars yu better watch your self foo u dont know who i am

  • I now have a 3 yrs old chow I got him a 6 weeks old He's gets very aggressive to any one who comes to the house. I hired a dog trainner to come over to help us break him of his aggressiveness. He said he would work with us but also advised us not to keep him we're risking our assets is case he ever bit someone. I was very upset with what he had to say. I love my chow and don't want anything bad happening to him or anyone else. Any suggestions on how to break him of this behavior?

  • He needs a lot of patience and sosializing. Try to take him walk much and meet your friends one by one and step by step. Each time you introduce him to your friend, let your friend give him treats. That way he will know that people are his friends and they are not dangerous for him. He became aggresive because he's afraid of people, maybe someone abused him as he was young. Again, he needs a lot of patience.

  • Both of my chows are from shelters. We had to do 2 hip replacements on one and two knee replacements on the other. Both are very sweet, despite their beginnings. I wouldn't trade either for any other dogs, ever. They are perfect and the best dogs in the world. I know how you feel.

  • This is definately a gorgeous dog, but a chow mix for sure. Looks kinda like my own might look in a few years. Mine is very sweet but with a natural dominant tendancy, stubborn as hell but i love him.

  • Wow thats a really really cute dog!!I loved it :)

What's the name of this song????

  • ese perro no es un chow legitimo

  • My Diego is fawn (blond) colored and I would say he is slightly agressive. By that I mean very protective and he does not like people who are afraid of him.... There are two people that are afriad of him, and he barks at them.

  • He looks mixed

  • This dog was from a puppy mill-- terrible genetics and required massive limb reconstruction at 4 months. She has her AKC papers-- puppy mills are a blight on the face of the earth... but I would not trade her for anything! :0)

  • My white chow is the most docile animal I have met. But my brown chow king was really stubborn and ornery. He died though eating tainted dog food a couple weeks ago. I miss him very much.

  • I have a chow and yessss they are pretty cool...hahah

  • ive had two chows good dogs.they shed like crazy, and require a lot of grooming.

  • I have a white chow chow who is the sweetest dog. She is good around babies, cats, and other dogs. She has never bit anyone in her life. Yes, it's hard to get a groomer to do chows, but every person who has groomed her has said that she is the sweetest dog ever.

  • Heya Flynn-- would love to see some video of the beautiful white chow!!! Maybe even WITH a baby to prove to folks that not all chows are aggressive. Some chows are extremely sweet and some even LIKE going to the groomer. :0)

  • i just got a dog that is half chow half golden retriever..shes BEAUTIFUL ^^ ( my favorite breed is huskie though :P)

  • CHOWS ARE #1! They are the best breed ever. They are the epitome of loyalty and devotion to their owner. I grew up with chows since I was a kid. I personally wouldn't leave my child alone with a Chow but they are still the best dogs ever. My Chows all had some kind of aggressive behavior but they were completely loyal to me always, my oldest Rambo would attack if someone got near me but as a pet owner one must always be responsible. No other dog comes close to the greatness of a CHOW!

  • my chow loves children and people but does get aggresive with other aniamals. she is wonderful around the house, never distructive, easy to housebreak and gentile. a very sweet dog all of my friends and family love her.

  • i had a chow chow and she was brilliant!

she was never agressive to anything and she loved all my other animals! She was poisoned when she was two and died of internal hemoreaging. I miss her so much! keep your chows safe ! there lovley dogs!!

  • Chows will always be my favorite breed!

  • i have a chow she is so cute....she loves to play...and cuddle!

  • I have two Chows right now, they are 11 years old and one is nearly blind and the other one is deaf. I also had their dad but he was the most aggresive motherf*ck*r in the earth. But i don't know but his sons are not aggresive at all with nobody who enter to my house in company of someone of the family

  • I got my Chow from a friend when I was 8 years old. I am now 21... you do the math. She has outlived her expected life span and is still the sweetest dog in the world. She is always craving attention and is very good with babies and other small animals (like my cat!) We also get her groomed twice a year... but it did take a while to find someone willing to do it without sedating her! Take care

  • I have a chow chow amnd sometimes he gets angry for no reason and wants to rip in peaces the one who gets close to him, i dont get it, but sometimes he is good, but damn i dont understand their behavior, they can be really dangerous.

  • The Baerleht, like MOST chows is also quite aggressive at times. Many vets and groomers do refuse to deal with chows, as they can be unpredictable. There are some pleasant chows in the world. I have had one who was VERY sweet. But the others I have owned are more of the regular chow temperament. This is a breed you either love with all of your heart, OR should avoid like the plague! It's good to hear from other chow owners and lovers of this unique breed.

  • He is beautiful. I also have an 11 year old chow :)

  • I'm a dog groomer, and Chows are one of the breeds I refuse to groom because of their nasty temperments. Nice looking breed, though.

  • Agreed, cosidering my mother is a groomer and shes teaching me. Our chow was the sweetest dog on the planet but when it came to a bath or grooming? She'd nip which is one thing shed never do let alone bark.

  • That's too bad. I always want to do the best job on each dog but it's hard to when the dog is difficult. I have a Cockapoo and she's the best dog in the world and absolutely perfect when I groom her.

  • well ive owned 3 chows and so far i say it all depends on the owner how the chows act i mean yes do to over breeding some can be extremely clever, yet vicious but our 3 never niped never attacked and that was because we introduced them to people at an early age if you get them use to being around people they arnt as aggresive infact if you borke into my house and fed my dogs they would be your best friend

  • That's probably a good idea-- some chows can be a terror while getting groomed. I have had The Baerleht for nearly 12 years and EVERY time I brush her or bathe her, it looks like an episode of Dog Whisperer. Our 13 year old chow Monkey, however was beloved by every groomer she saw. You just never know!

  • he looks mean!

  • Nice work on the video!!

  • wonderful video - We have a red chow chow too, her name is samantha and she's a handful too :-)
