This is a movie that beautifully captures the complexity of the North and South Korea border without going into the political or ideological differences and looking at only the human aspects of it.

first of all, There are 3 North Koreans standing guard, non of which looks right at the border. One guy looks to the north to make sure nobody defects. The other two (closest to the line) look at each other in case one defects to the south. Its the Americans that have a direct look at the border.

It seems everyone misses on major point in this film. The fact that Korea will NEVER unite unless through heavy armed conflict. In the movie itself, constant opinions of North vs South is displayed at a few moments, even when they get together as friends. The point isn't that just political factors and factions can divide and shape one's opinions, but the fact they play a humongous role in for example, whether a north korean can befriend a south korean. It may happen, but look at the ending.

It AIN'T Gonna happen... PERIOD... This ending has more in common with a Disney Animation Fairy Tale, than anything regarding REALITY...

NO, I didn't watch the movie, but this was all I needed to see, to know that this movie is FICTION...

@RunningSwimmingMan in the movie, when they go over the DMZ, the soldiers do in fact face each other between the collective buildings. Yo haven't seen the movie so i can understand why you suddenly jump to conclusions. Also, the movie isn't about presenting a fun exciting realistic story but to send an epiphany of thought over an extremely controversial perception towards an ongoing conflict. It's not for the most realistic story the movie is driving for, but a message.

@RunningSwimmingMan also, the reason why they weren't facing each other in that particular photo, is because some american woman ran straight up to the line to take a picture of the North Korean Guard, which is why the South Korean guard turned around, facng away from the NKG, to get the photographer away. and by the way, you mad bruh?

@89saffuan To visit the DMZ, you can book a tour with the USO - United Services Organization - a non-profit group dedicated to helping US military personnel. You will have to book through their South Korea office.

Alternatively, you can visit from the North Korea, but you will have to book through a Chinese tourist agency in Beijing. This option is a lot more difficult and involves strenous amounts of paperwork. I think certain nationalities are also barred from entering NK.

um. you're full of shit. you don't know the history of the war. You act as if the US wanted a war with the reds. The South was more hawkish than the north originally, so much so that the US toned down Sungman Rhee. The US barely entered the war in time to prevent complete N Korea victory. Then when they had the capability to destroy china and the north, they said that the original mandate was to push the north out of the south, not conquer the north and the US brokered the cease fire.

the important thing was their will and intetions at that time. in korea 1940's, intelligent people were already divided in two ways, CAPITALISM OR COMMUNISM. guys who believed communism was the only way moved to north and made their own regime under the soviet union's power. it's sad to say but we were not pure vitctim. our politicians or the intelligents were divided already and they followed the US or SU respectivelly. just poor common people remained. they didn;t know what happened.

I completely agree with PCW's ideology within this movie. Korea can never be united because any attempt will be crushed by the U.S and China. We're used as puppets in their twisted game of power and military advantage.
