Yeah but, think about it. If Usain Bolt were gonna run a 40-yard, he'd train for it, and he'd adapt to it. But, I do think you are completely correct. He'd prob hit like a 4.3 if he did it like right NOW.
u obviously dont know how fast a 10.69 is. I know plenty of guys who have run in the 10.8 area who have run 4.4 with ease. Get a clue man, a guy who runs 4.8 is no way in hell going to run sub 11.0 for 100m. You have to factor in reaction time in the 100m in addition to error in the 40 times. Go do some research before making a stupid claim.
40 time is overemphasized for guys who've proven they could do it on the field. Cam Newton's 40 wasn't nearly as fast as he appeared when playing. They shoudl do the 40 yard dash in full pads, then you would see guys like Cam Newton, Mark Ingram, maintaining alot more speed due to their strength.
And let me say this. Just because you ran track, doesn't mean you can play football. The field is littered with track stars that thought they could compete in football. I think track athletes are amazing. I went to the 88 Olympic trials and watching the women freaked me out. Ingram is great football player and football players all run differently.
@blkbmr10 I really wish people would think before they speak and do at least a little research before they post a comment. I'm not singling you out, but you're the last one i saw to post a comment of this nature. Running is all about knee drive. The farther you lift your feet from the ground, the longer you're in the air, the longer you're in the air, the farther you travel. It's basing running technique and good form. He has great running form, as a matter of fact.
@Shomeintheknee You clearly have No idea what you're talking about & are not an athlete. Not even being offensive just being honest its one thing to google something...another thing to DO it. his running form is AWFUL,.
@Shomeintheknee man...you clearly are not an athlete because his form was horrendous...ive been in combines ive ran track..you dont even run a 40 the same way you run on a track plus the fact the phases& speed at which you make transitions into them are completely different...he was high stepping at the end not driving his knee no respectable track coach will tell u you DONT lose speed by highstepping.a 40 yard dash is almost all drive phase but let me stop because i doubt u care or know
@blkbmr10 Like I said, I've competed on the national level. I don't care if you ran track and been to combines that doesn't mean you were any good. Im an all American, sponsored by Nike, and am able to compete on a high level in a National setting. You, well...you aren't.
@49fortyniners uhhh.....don't think you quite grasped what I was saying there bud....I can break it down into 3rd grader terms so you can follow the discussion if you'd prefer. Just let me know.
I remember the NFL network ran an 40 yard dash overlay with all other running backs in the same draft as Ingram. Ingram was easily the first two 10 yards by an entire body length.
a power running back running 4.6 and below is pretty good, and he's not tryna juke anyone he's gonna lower his shoulder and let em have hit, he should be fine in New orleans.
@AgrivatedKillah i guess, especially when it comes to the long term health of the running back, power backs usually need another back to take the load off their shoulders. Some of those smaller backs like jahvied best and reggie bush cant be a No.1 back though.
@22s22a Ingram is smarter and moe agile. Trent is stronger. Ingram can juke and truck. I haven't seen Trent juke many people. Don't get me wrong. Trent is a great RB. But we can finally determine who was better in college after this season when Trent plays a full year as a starter.
i thought this dude was faster than this, this really is a 4.6 not fast but not bad as well. football speed track speed really is the same in some sort, you run a 40 in both sports explosiveness, acceleration but most importantly form are all measured. Difference is football 40's are clock on turf, track 40's on track, just have to be quick in football as well have be all three things i mentioned shit to me he slow fuck it.
i think if he ran with better form it would be faster, cuz if u look at around 48 seconds he's leaning back and it looks like hes doing high knees lol. i think he will do good this year tho
His running style is Emmitt Smith all the way. No, he's no burner, but I guess the heisman polls forgave him for that haha-If he was the athletic freak that Reggie Bush is, it might not inspire him to work as hard, and rely on natural talent, a.k.a., more or less a draft bust. But that ball carrier vision, agility, and balance got him YAC's all throughout his college campaign. Would've been intriguing if the Cowboys landed him, but the "Who Dat" nation is celebrating, alright.
4.5-6 is not great speed by nfl standards but alot of people overlook the fact that mark was faster than any other back at the combine in the first 10 yards of the dash. and he has shown superior vision in his career to make cuts and get in and out of running lanes. not to mention his ability to break tackles. and he is very tough and has the ability to wear down the defense. also has natural recieving skills, probably from his dad who was a WR. i think he is the best back in the last 3 drafts.
Most runs go for less than 10 yards and Ingram is very fast in the first ten. It just means he won't have any 80 yard break aways. He will still be a good football player.
Know what I'm looking at when I see a running back run a 40? I'm looking to see how fast does he get that 10 yard mark? Does he burst up through it with a lot of scamper? If so, then that's all you really need. And that's what Ingram did.
Dude had the FASTEST 10 yard split of any player in the combine. That means from then on, everyone else HAS to catch him from behind.
@SoulfulBrutha5805 Jacob Hester had a 1.5 even split, ran for 1,000 yards in the sec leading his team to a national title and not even given a shot, the double standards are ridiculous. Toby Gerhart deserved the Heisman, they said he HAD to run in the 4.5 range to be considered a tailback and not a halfback, why not Ingram, why not John Clay? who ran like a 4.9 and is 260 pounds?
All the people sayin its a rele bad time I am positive he would chase your ass down even if these analysists were given 15 - 20 yards cough cough Mel Kiper
for Deaonblues323 did you think before you typed for real man if you can get 40 yards in 4.6 seconds that is super good that means it wont take to much to get into the innzone and it does equate football speed it tell you how fast you are mark ingram is going to be one of the greatest and most feared to ever step on the field
Ok shut up. this crap is so overrated. the kid is hardworking and will develop into another emmit smith without the long career. I like his vision and acceleration. he will be a great one for years to come. Only those fags kiper and mcshay rave over speed(i.e. reggie bust i mean bush.. look at his career)
This may sound weird but i think the forty is mostly to me for quarter backs that are scramblers the first 10 yard matter cams first 20 yards where amazing fortys for running back first 20 yards matter because in a game get away twenty yards then its of to the races!
I hate the 40 yard dash because it doesn't mean anything. All of these times are nursed from the 3months of training they did prior to the combine and none of these guys can ran this same time on any other random day after the combine because they don't stress it. Not only that but their not in gear and this straight ahead speed doesn't display their on-field speed which I think Mark Ingram destroys everyone in.Engram has the best explosion and strength and thats what matters as a RB in the NFL
RBs don't run 40s, they run 4,5, & 6s. When the chance comes for a big run, he has plenty of speed to make a big gain. Ingram has never been known for top end speed, he has lateral movement like no other RB in the draft and made his name breaking tackles with power and the best balance of any RB I can remember. I expect big things from him. Plus you get an absolute class act with Mark Ingram. Heart, leadership, work ethic, etc, etc... Good luck Mark!!!!
@Deaconblues323 also, i was watching on nfl.com and they were saying that they put the video of his 40 up against every other rb at the combine, and he had every single one of them beat to the 10 yard mark, which basically means that he doesn't have the top end speed, but he can accelerate like crazy
@Deaconblues323 I honestly think if he would have never pumped his legs like that he would have ran a better time . I think he lost his step a lil bit while he was running , but other than that he is very powerful and so complete !
@Deaconblues323 and what they didn't show in this video, they tested Ingram against the three fastest backs in the combine, and in the first 10 yards, his burst was better by over a yard.
If it wasn't for the high stepping from about the 20-30 yard marks, he would've definitely ran faster.. but as a buddy of mine said, he has football quickness.. when he's on the field, he's probably going to be faster then you.. no matter what 40 he runs. Thanks for the video man.
@bigboblovesyou Yeah Sometimes guys do that to try to catch their rythum and try to find out how to accelrate to their top speed as fast as they can he messed up and the look on his face after says it all but if you read my before comment its true 40 doesnt really mean shit it just means you can run 40 yards In 4.6 seconds It is a big difference from track speed and football speed.
Actually 40's really don't mean shit anyway all it means Is you can get to 40 yards In 4.6 seconds Doesn't equate to football speed Football speed is different than track speed;Jerry Rice:4.72 Gale Sayers:4.7 Larry Fitzgerald:4.63 Anqan Boldin:4.7 Look how they're careers turned out or are turning out Keep your head Up Ingy
@lordvoldemort578 Why? he had the best 10yrd speed out of the all of the backs at the combine and thats what matters as a RB. He'll hit the whole faster than the dudes who ran 4.3-4.4's and he's stronger than all of em. Most of the guys who ran 4.3-4.4's wont be every down backs like Ingy. Mark might not bust for 40-60 yard runs but i'll take 5-7yard gains consistently any day over a 40-60yard gain once every other game like the smaller faster dudes lol but hey thats just my opinion.
@ThisisCarbon16 I agree with you That's why I corrected Myself In my other comment Ingy Is definetly the full package when It comes to Running the ball,Tough, rugged, angry that's how you run I like the little backs too but they break so easily and arent durable like Ingy will be 215 of pure muscle Like I said the only thing 4.6 means I that You can get to 40 yards In 4.6 seconds and It doesn't equate to football speed. The 10 yard split proved that Ingy Is going to be better than Emmitt Smith

@MrDwtime70 Gale ran 4.7
lordvoldemort578 4 months ago
Common Ingy you got to get faster than 4.6 bro.
lordvoldemort578 1 year ago
