Read the "Series of Unfortunate Events" books by Lemony Snicket. They're actually soooooo gooood and unbelievably clever in the endings. There's 13 in the series but the books aren't that long, not even close to Harry Potter book length. But yeah, in my opinion I think they're better than Harry Potter. First 3 of the "Series of Unfortunate Events" books are maybe a tad boring, idk, but the rest are absolutely amazing and clever.
