Oh man, I can't beleive you tried tomb of giants right away. I never go there without the Sunlight Maggot or the Cast Light spell. Turning up your brightness, as you will shortly see, doesn't help in the slightest. I'm pretty sure you've basically lost that 3 humanity and 30k souls. In this instance, I would actually advise to come back later!
