  • anyone notice the guy walking in the background at 1:12

  • someone told me it s neccessary to cover yourself with snow or dirt in order for this thing to work.is this accurate?

  • Great video that's just like how I do it

  • how sturdy are these?

  • Excellent idea!

  • THANKS!

  • You know a poncho works better....you are either ex or current military....nice little bit about the spotting planes....not likely in the forest but i guess possible...but seriously the parachord tie off...mirror image of the way I learned it in basic.....not meant for survival though...only for a night....i wouldnt call it shelter...more like cover

  • 1:20 BIG FOOT

  • I see big foot in the background...

  • This isn't a shelter its a bloody umbrella, and a crappy one. You can make a way better shelter using this blanket without having to poke any holes in it.

  • @Fadsmashers it's more of a quick shelter, like if one of your members has hypothermia or you just need to spend the night. It's most likely not supposed to be a permanent shelter, for making a debris shelter and curling up with the blanket would probably be better.

  • good video.

  • does any1 eles see big foot in the back ground haha 0:34 to like 1:00

  • At last somebody explaining the way to perform a shelter. Anyway, is realy anoying the sound of the sheet

  • @jcm060 lol

  • Very cool I use S.B. to make Lg tarps, check my video " Space blanket shelter" good job.

    Big T

  • Not a bad idea.... BUT you must have 2 blankets in cold weather because your gonna want to wrap yourself in one to stay warm if it was winter... Your not gonna trap any heat with that thing above you like that in the winter...

  • youtube.com/user/abodudeman#p/c/A6DC90125913FF3A/0/DbtKOUxKlLM

  • if ...

    if you had an R V ...

  • omg you found Roswell ufo crash debris! this proves that bigfoot exists

  • 1:15 ... Big Foot sighting in the background!

  • Thank you so much for sharing...

  • @loveruleshate Thanks for watching. Be Safe.

  • @ryanjcus You can now buy readymade in UK, CO called Hamble Distribution £3.50

  • @TheOverlord2010 Forgot to add,comes as a ridge tent 2.5m x 1.5m included 6m cordage

  • LOL theres a guy walking in the backround @ 1:20

  • I knew you could make a shelter with those space blankets i just didn't know how. Thanks for this mate. Cheers

  • if you didnt have duct tape you could use a small rock or some sand or dirt or something, and if you didnt have paracord you could use some natural cordage made from cedarbark, cattails or roots or something.

    Good video

  • Structurally speaking wouldn't it be better to make the same type shelter with a heavy trash bag or two?

  • great vid!! I agree that small knots in the corners with cord around them woks well in lieu of duct tape.

    Keep posting!!

  • great vid, usually what i do is make a lean-to fram, put a mylar emergency blanket or a casualty blanket on top, then i place pine and spruce boughs on top of the E blanket for camouflage, better insulation, and waterproofing. love your vids.

  • good tips from such a dorky looking fellow. five starzzz!!!

  • it look like a big peice of aluminum foil

  • hey you should have that guy in the background help you. maybe hes surviving too. he needs a friend 5/5

  • wtf what is he in the back doing? at 1:10

  • Wondering if you have ever actually slept in your set up?

  • should of just made a debris shelter and slept in the blanket for maximum heat ...and at least one those branches was a possible widow maker throw a stick up tp test the branches strength

  • @lenny619r you could show how to use a small stone for a button rock...instead of poking a hole through the blacket..you put the stone in the corner, rap the corner around it and tie the string around the stone and blankert...

  • aircraft above you... might not be friendlies. Think about that. In case they're not, put some camoflauge OVER the blanket and the space blanket will block out thermal detetection the police use at night.

  • @TyrantsAREhere

    that's good to know!

  • I got scared when you used a knife to open the space blanket package. I was worried your knife would cut the easily cuttable space blanket.

  • i would say put the silver side up because the gold color blends in with the fall leaves if your looking for an aircraft to see you

  • Very good video and helpful.

  • Dry and warm??!!Hahah!!You re funny guy!

  • You dont have to cut a hole, use a rock wrap the corner over the rock and tie with cordage.

  • In cold weather a "lean-to" style would work well with this blanket. build a fire in front of the lean-to using some logs or rocks to act as a reflector on the opposite side of your fire. Also invest in a good wool blanket. These work well even when wet.

  • Good demo.

  • we get some in ziplock back when i get some more i can ship some to you i get em for free if u want

  • Awsome video man thanks i will be testing it my self pretty soon

    best regard Peter Nielsen

  • you should take a rock and wrap it in. in every corner and then take some paracord and tie it. because then you want have any holes in th blanket

  • I like the emergency German Shepherd, those are also pretty good to have around. :-)

  • How easily do they rip?

  • PS

    Beautiful shepard

  • similar methods are employed to dress as a wonka bar on halloween.. jk

great video.. often i think people buy emergency equipment w/o actually knowing the many uses and benefits which is crucial when you are in a unpredictable situation

  • instead of cutting a hole in the corners, i think theres a better/safer way to do it..

i think its called putting "duff" (leaves and whatever is on the ground) in the corners and wrap it in a small ball so you can tie rope around it in stead of cutting a hole.

sorry for poor explanation, i just don't remember well..lol

  • You can use a samll stone or pebble. It's not necessarily a "better" way either. The duct tape hole is more secure and reinforces the corners. You are likley to rip through it with your way. To each thier own though.

  • The stone trick i think would be used when you have a strong blanket that's of good quality and you don't want to ruin it.

  • thx though for the vid anyway.

  • Well if you were evading someone this obviously wouldn't be the shelter for you. Thanks

  • Also usually your goal depending on the situation, is to be found and rescued. This acts not only as a shelter but a signaling device too.

  • good way to get detected from helicopters with a nice reflective mylar tent.

  • It will also save your duct tape for other projects

  • Great video! I have found that better than cutting a hole in the mylar (it tears very easily), is pushing a small rock into the corner and tying the paracord around that. Mylar has great tensile strength. You will be able to put 3 to 4 times the tension on it this way! Still interested in your opinion of my video's

  • much better than a tube tent you were right now i know how to make a better shelter, thanks!!!

  • Great Video, I would have never thought to use an emergency blanket. Easier to carry around than a tarp. Better than tring to find branches when there aren't many around

  • Man you are so lucky I would like to be at that place I am trying to find some places. GREAT VID THO ryan

  • great idea, im gonna do that

  • Crap, you think youtube could compress these videos anymore?

  • nice job, I use them to line my shelters take a look at my video fire starting with batteries,

  • lol 0:19

Is that bigfoot in the background?

    behind the dog

  • Nah, its a man fishing.

  • You Guys are funny, lol. It's my little Nephew Playing. He loves the outdoors too, so I take him out and teach him stuff. Thanks

  • Good tip's, thanks for another fine video.

  • Good work. 5/5

  • Great video, if you don't have duct tape to hand you can wrap the corners round stones and tie the cord round the stone, works very well and maybe even stronger then tape.

  • Great suggestion. Works very well with most material. You don't have to damage your blanket. It's a little harder with a heavy tarp, but most of the time heavy tarps have grommets built into them.

  • Also, there is a lot to be said for a video with the only sound effects being the creeks and the wind in the trees. I gotta tell ya, I think it's hilarious to see "wilderness experts" doing vids with train horns and highway traffic noise in them!!

  • Yeah it's great to get away from the Urban noise for awhile. You guys can come hang out anytime your in CT, lol. :) Thanks for all the nice comments.

  • Awesome bro! You vids are not only educational, but also very fun to watch. I don't think there are a whole lot of people who can watch your videos and not wish they were hangin' out with ya in the wild! Very cool indeed!!

  • great video! very useful! thanx

  • Thanks lifetrekking!! :)

  • Good call on reinforcing the corners of the blanket. Very good tips, as usual! 5/5.

  • Thanks for all the extra tips and side considerations. Lots to think about before erecting a survival shelter. Another great vid, Ryan.

Wanted to add, that if duct tape isn't available, you can wrap a small stone with the corner of the blanket like how you would with a bonbon (or a Hershey's Kiss) and then tie the paracord around the neck of the 'bonbon', that should provide enough grip for the otherside of the paracord to be tied to a tree.

  • Hey Sage,

Thats an excellent suggestion, and it works pretty good too. Thanks for adding that info.

    Thanks!!! :)

  • Ryan, any videos coming up on watches?

Different brands, and features? Compass etc.

I see you with that watch often.

Is that something you'd wear in a bug-out situation...or no?

  • Thanks Dude(hillarious movie), I don't own alot of watches, but I can talk about the different features that would help you in a survival situation. There are ways to find N,S,E,W with a non-digital watch with hour and minute hands. The watch I have is an Atomic Digital. Meaning the time is exact and set by a radio signal. I would definatly hav the watch with me in a BO. Thanks for your comment and question!! :)

  • Also, Excpect outdoor watch use vids in the future, Thanks.

  • dude that is crazy. this ecact vid is what i was about to PM ya about making a shelter outtta the survival blanket. for real that is just crazy. also HA HA i caught that "survival man" pun there.... "widow makers." survival man rocks for real. maybe in a future vid explaine in detail the "w"'s. once again Ryan another awesome BOB type vid please never keep them soming. A++++ 5 stars. also please keep a survival signal fire ready to light..... A+++++

  • Thanks Bro, That is weird. Survivorman is an excellent show. Les Stroud really is awesome. Widow Maker is a slang term used by alot of outdoorsmen. Thanks, all your rating really do count for something, yestrday I got a YT Honor- #81 - Top Rated (Today) - Education. Freakin Awesome Dude!!! :)

  • I forgot to say it was for my snare vid. Also great point about the signal fire. I'll make more on signaling, including ground to air siganls, in the future. Thanks.

  • i've never really watched survival man but in 2000 a Philmont ranger told me to watch out for the four W's of campsite selection.... water run off, wind direction, widow makers, and wildlife trails. How is "widow makers" a survival man pun?

  • Another good video Ryan Nice set up on the shelter. I've been meaning to ask you. What made you choose the bag you use as your EDC over something like a backpack type bag??

5 Stars again, keep them coming.

  • I like that bag for many reasons. But there are always pros and cons. Con: at times the bag can through you off balance since the weight is not even(bag on one side). Pros: many pockets and great storage, secrect ccw pocket, inexpensive but high quality nylon, works good on motorcyle(balance not a prob with spec setup), two canteen pouches on sides, easy instant access to my gear with out removing bag from body(like with a backpack). Theres alot more. This would be a good video. Thanks Man!!! :)

  • Also I forgot to mention that overall the bag is comfortable including the padded shoulder strap. Also I have a few other go bags that I use, for now this is my fav.

  • Nice video bro, at the begining the child on the background scare me , I was like oh God something is moving behind Ryan lol.

  • Thats my little Nephew. He loves the outdoors and hiking. He's always full of excellent questions, and likes to learn. Thanks Buddy.

  • Cool video I carry 2 Emergency Blankets now in my Hunting bag/Survival kit.

    -Rich

  • Pretty cool

  • I use this method many times while in the woods, but the only down side is that it does not protect you from wind. But it is still a great vid!

  • It's an excellent setup for certain conditions. This would work great for light to med. rain, low wind, and above freezing temperatures. Also other facotors must be considered like your clothing and other gear. If it were windy you could always add debris to the sides, or start with a debris hut and insulate with the mylar. Thanks Matt.
