no one plays guitar like eddie van halen. period. there are shredders out there but no one can make the guitar talk like he can. sure, he cant play 6 string arpeggios at 180 bpm. but to the people that can do that dont make the guitar talk like he does. bottom line, eddie van halen ripped the guitar a new asshole.

He plays a wide range of types of songs, he made tapping, divebombs, squeals, etc famous, and he single handedly created an entire decade of music (the 80's). Without van halen, hair metal and glam metal would have never existed. No other guitarist in history, not even Hendrix, has done that much. Simply put, he's the best guitarist the world has ever seen. Keep on rockin Van Halen!!!

Simply put...the greastest rock n roll guitarist ever. He's a living legend. How many men can say they invented a playing style. Talk about heart and soul... and all put into the sound he has.
This is the most life-changing 10 minutes of guitar playing I've ever encountered. I studied it hardcore in the 80's when I was in junior high, dissecting it apart riff by riff, and actually learning to play it, and I still like to revisit this piece from time to time now that it's on You Tube. This is the master at work. It is playable if you devote enough time to it, but imagine creating it. Ed, you're a legend.
All who question EVH guitar ability and his innovation need to go back to the years 1979-1986 and read what was written about Eddie then. He mesmerized the guitar world. To put Eddie anywhere below nr.1 is an act of ignorance and biased emotions instead of letting the history, innovation and the ability to be the true judge of what is right. No guitarist has captured our imagination more then Eddie Van Halen has.
Eddie will be remembered like we remember Mozart today. A genius and innovator that dared to be different and re defined the electric guitar for all other to follow. So the moral of the story is that Ed is the leader and all others are merely followers.

Actually, there are thousands of guitarists capable of surpassing his ability of improvisation. Eddie is good, but cant compare to ynggie, satch, vai, and a host of others.
yeah its funny though how eddie recorded the most famous and most unique guitar solo of its time by accident.... and was just playing it normally in the studio not knowing at all that it was being recorded. you cant compare eddie van halen to all of these shred guitarists of today. all they care about are notes per second. i highly doubt any players of today could play this. they may be able to play it faster but not with as much soul.
his original kramer, or was it a fender? Anyhow, both guitars had only one knob which controlled the volume on the guitar. During his solo Cathedral, he kept turning on and off to get that sound which was nice...
how can eddie be all effects? have you heard spanish fly? that's on a freakin' classical guitar, no effects there.
and i highly doubt you could do anything like this within a month of playing and anyway if you have such a problem with it why even say anything? that's just bringing attention to yourself.

i can think of two people that beat Hendrix just off the top of my head. 1. eddie van halen. 2. Jimmy Paige, easy. hendrix sucked ass, his music composed of shitty blues and an unclean playing style with no creativity. comparing henrix's creativity to eddies is like comparing a dean playmate to a schecter diamond series. The playmate is a good starter, but the schecter takes the playing to a whole new level(eddie)
I prefer Eddie to Hendrix but saying Jimi had no creativity is idiotic. As i say, I like EVH more than Jimi but to say he wasn't creative is insane. EVH RULES!!!
Jimi Hendrix did what every other guitar player did in his time. He played the pentatonic scale in E or F sharp. Theres no doubt hes talented but I wouldn't consider him a creative. He definitely did not change the style of music as Eddy did.
Well Eddie popularised tapping and just taking electric guitar that one step further. Hendrix was just unorthodox at the time. I prefer Eddie but they're both great.
I dont know about what you guys are saying, they are two different type of styles and both change the guitar playing. But saying Jimi sucks like that just isnt right.

his original kramer, or was it a fender? Anyhow, both guitars had only one knob which controlled the volume on the guitar. During his solo Cathedral, he kept turning on and off to get that sound which was nice...

and i highly doubt you could do anything like this within a month of playing and anyway if you have such a problem with it why even say anything? that's just bringing attention to yourself.

i used to really argue for eddie because he is my favorite guitarists, but the bottomline has nothing to do with talent speed accuracy,its his sound that draws people in more than any other gitarist in the world, his playing just feels different theres no other precise way to explain it, i dont need a reason i just enjoy listening to him more than any other musician

3:42 - 4:50 is sick! my guitar teacher can almost do that perfectly. i think he said all he does is volume up and down with the effects of chorus, delay, reverb and some other stuff maybe

its just delay. he turns the delay to that amount of time and then turns the knob up and down while fingering things.

Eddie's Kramer Frankenstein has one knob. The Volume knob that says "tone" This knob he is using on that part. search on google and you know.

i can think of two people that beat Hendrix just off the top of my head. 1. eddie van halen. 2. Jimmy Paige, easy. hendrix sucked ass, his music composed of shitty blues and an unclean playing style with no creativity. comparing henrix's creativity to eddies is like comparing a dean playmate to a schecter diamond series. The playmate is a good starter, but the schecter takes the playing to a whole new level(eddie)

I prefer Eddie to Hendrix but saying Jimi had no creativity is idiotic. As i say, I like EVH more than Jimi but to say he wasn't creative is insane. EVH RULES!!!

Jimi Hendrix did what every other guitar player did in his time. He played the pentatonic scale in E or F sharp. Theres no doubt hes talented but I wouldn't consider him a creative. He definitely did not change the style of music as Eddy did.

Well Eddie popularised tapping and just taking electric guitar that one step further. Hendrix was just unorthodox at the time. I prefer Eddie but they're both great.
