i was thinking about using powerhead to make a canister filter .you showed it how to do but it would be lot nicer if you put sponge and gravel on a flat panel and slide water down.it would look much neat .but thx for the idea .i think i would modify it a little just for the look

Thats not really a home made filter cos the pump makes up the majority of it and you bought that from a shop, and the rest is some sponge and then gravity. A good starting idea i will say. So you can expand on your current filter and improve it so £50 filter efficiency and filtration quality.

use a sponge instead of that cloth, use bio max, put a bio wheel where water goes down and this should clear the water :)

this is not a perfect filteration system. wat abt the nitrate bacteria, ammonia reduction and etc. well for cheap goldfishes like that it makes sense. if u are on the higher end - discus, arowanas....u fish will be dead in a week tops!

nice filtration system man....im more of a spend money to make my fish happpy kinda guy but yeah that whould totally work u have a sponge and a strong water current, and that little peice of cloth u have there should be taken off so the waste (food) probally flakes in ur case will get sucked up n stuck in the debree chamber..you should keep workin on it tho

I don't understand why you think this aquarium is dirty. Aesthetically, the water and gravel are just fine. Also, if you knew about filtration you would know that you can use most any clean, porous material as filter media. I often opt for unconventional methods of filtration so I wont have to waste a lot of money and I'd say that home-rigged filters are sufficient if you are not overstocked. Maybe parental guidance is advisable for next time you post, cichlids101 (:

2)bio:remov toxins(Ammonia ) using bacteria

3)Chemical:potash/calcium levls etc.
