  • 2:10 ☆☆☆☆☆

  • This was always a very cool song. It brings back some nice memories.

  • don't know why but I hear Paul Stanley in this guys voice a little

  • I could toss a coin over whether the best version of SL23 is this one or the Shuggie one... this one definitely is the funkier of the 2 and always gets people moving.... Shuggie's is more introspective, one for listening on a sunny day when you're as high as a kite :D

  • It's all a matter of taste, really. I prefer the Brothers Johnson version, but I won't fight with anyone who prefers the original Shuggie Otis recording. Bottom line, this is an astonishing song no matter how you slice it.

  • epic

  • the original rocks, and this is even more funkadelic. LOVE this

  • THIS IS MUSIC PEOPLE!!!!!!!

  • Sorry to be that guy, but the Shuggie Otis original is better.

  • @paulthegeek plz dont come on a legendary song's vide and say something like that because your ears are used to hearing most of the crap that comes out today.

  • @LBJTV Have you even HEARD the original? This version is okay, I'll grant you. A little slick for my taste, but at least it doesn't butcher the song. And Louis Johnson is a great bass player. But Shuggie's original version easily tops it. There is simply no question. (Also, in the future, try not to speculate on what other people's "ears are used to hearing." It makes you sound silly and pretty much kills your credibility.)

  • wow...this song is magic...can't believe only 37k views! remember it like yesterday, i was 15. maybe i'm too nostalgic, but can't see my teenage daughter getting sentimental 30 plus years later to that whining midget bitch eminem like i can to this music. i'm not just old...music ISN'T this good anymore.

  • Bought this when i was a kid - May the funk be with you. Cheers Thunder Thumbs and Lightning Licks.

  • Ah cool, this is a recording from the Netherlands. Toppop was on of our main sources for music for many years, including 1977. I never knew the Brothers Johnson performed in the Toppop studio as well, until I saw this :)

  • strawberry letter 22 + 1

  • george johnson is a friend of mine, the fool still owes me 1000 for a ounce of coke

  • this and Taste Of Honeys' 'boogie oogie oogie' and Blodies' 'heart of glass' is what made me fall in love with the bass guitar 23 yrs ago. this is gold :)

  • Amazing quality sound and a great video too, thank you!

  • this is my jam

  • OMG! I have always loved this song. Oh the memories.

  • Anybody else feel like Color Me Badd ripped off the end of this song super hard?

  • One of those songs from my childhood that is in my very soul. It is such a great tune.

  • This is what happened when the brothers got ahold of acid!!!lol!

  • First heard this song in a Kellogg's Strawberry cereal commerical in the late 80's. Searched for about 10 years to find who sang it. This was before internet days. Finally heard it on one of Direct Tv's music channels, the 70's hits one I think. Went right to Limewire & downloaded it. Awesome song!!!!!!!

  • do do do do do do dodo

  • @lubetube2009 Yeah I know. It's amazing.

  • Jackie Brown.

  • EVERYTHING about this song makes me think about all that is right in this world! This music needs to be fully appreciated and respected. They don't make it like this anymore. Wish they did. So original and amazing! Come see us Brothers Johnson. I would be the first in line for a ticket.

  • Played this 45 half to death, still got it. Still plays nicely. LOVE this song!

  • CHRIS ROCK

  • one of the GREATEST guitar solos EVER. the brothers johnson are one of my all-time favourite groups. i am SO glad i had the opportunity to see them perform live and meet them. they are one of the the groups that influenced me to want to play the guitar. especially the bass. louis absolutely murders it when he plays. although he took it a little bit easy on this song. the sounds you hear coming from his bass are the sounds of it pleading for mercy. i absolutely love this music.

  • I SWEAR THEY ARE JAMMMMMMMMMING THEIR ASS OFF!!!!

  • always wondered why they say " letter 22" but the title say " 23".

  • @drilltech25 The singer and his girl friend send letters to each other which they call Strawberry Letters. The letter he just received from her was the "#22" he sings about in the song. The song itself is his reply which is "Strawberry Letter 23".

  • @chrisben3 thanks for that explanation cos i wondering what that was about.

  • @chrisben3 Bro - Shuggie Otis wrote this song. His girlfriend used to send him letters scented with strawberry perfume. One of these dudes was dating Shuggie's cousin.

  • One of the best basslines ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE GIFT TO HEAR HAVE BEEN BLESSED....

  • I don't care how old you are, this is one of the COOLEST songs ever made.

Can we even call todays crop of no talents artists?

  • this that fire fo sho!!!!

  • Your lover sends you a letter, Strawberry letter 22, you write this song as a response and call it Strawberry letter 23. Never get tired of this one.!

  • @lubetube2009 It still beats the h$%l out of wearing your pants around your ankle. The funny thing is these gangster wanna bes don't know that wearing your pants hanging off like that means you're hooking and will sell your body to the other prisoners for stuff like food and whatnot.

  • I love this stuff, Classic Rock, Classic Funk, and Classic Alternative Rock, and Classic Grunge Rock are the best music genres ever.

  • @lubetube2009 Great song not so great hair : - ()

  • Love this song but i've always wondered what is "strawberry letter 22" as in the song words or "strawberry letter 23" in the title.

  • This song never gets old, it has lasted throughout the years and is still just as popular as it was when it first came out. CoooooL !!!

  • @kensanasakukuraura I dont know what you said but Dam right!!!

  • Black americans should be proud of this and not the rap and hip hop going on now!!

I wish this era never left.

  • o k SO ITS STRAWBERRY LETTER 22 BUT THE TITLE IS 23???

  • @CHEWBAKKAJOHN lol! thats what i said when i heard this song for the very first time.

  • @CHEWBAKKAJOHN Shuggie Otis wrote this song at the age of 17. Otis wrote it for his girlfriend, who liked to send him letters written on strawberry scented paper. The song describes the feelings evoked by "Strawberry Letter 22," the title indicating the hopes of another letter.

  • Solid

  • What a treat! This song brings back so many wonderful memories of my youth. It's a timeless tune. I can listen to it again and again!!!

  • the original Villie Vinillie

  • orangefever88..........it was an absolutely magic time.......absolutely magic!

  • I am so sad I am not born in their time!

  • @orangefever88 me too man..I'm 15 and it think about it everyday..

  • I was on a cross country trip with my parents when this song was a hot and heard it about a hundred times from S. Carolina to California. It never got old. We had fun guessing the lyrics we could not quite make out. We pictured a strawberry shaped letter from his girlfriend being the reason the singer wanted letter 23. Only many years later did I learn the real lyrics and fell in love with the song again.

  • the best sliky melodic funk song ever

  • @libidooverdrive

    Well put.....really well put.

    .

I was thinking about who has a similar silky style today (the 90's really--time goes by so fast).
