You are right. I was using a western watercolor brush with acrylic paints(not ink). I find hat the strong fiber Chinese mulberry paper is very suitable for painting animals with its texture and it is as tough as fabric. Good for arylic painting. (See my website or ebay store for details).
To answer your second question, yes, I have both mind picture and reference pictures. Routine practice is very importamt. A good painting always comes out of numerous NGs.Actually this was my third attempt yesterday morning.Thank you!
