How come that whenever Mick Taylor improvises it sounds fucking great yet when Ronnie tries, it's fucking shit? Because Taylor is a genius and Ronnie aint.
its all insperational stuff ,,from the keefer to the way it was done back way to long as theyre never be another band like it ,, check out kieths bio ,,a great book man ,,says it all Kenk
Mick Taylor is way more than a lead player. This isn't his best or the bands' best, but they were good. There is a later version of brown sugar with Taylor on slide and it is kick ass. The studio version is another good one, also one from cocksucker blues, a documentary from '72. That's really the name of it, sorry.
Lots of different stories about what Brown Sugar really means but in the book Up And Down With The Rolling Stones by Tony Sanchez (Keith's buddy & H supplier), BS refers to the brown heroin that was available at the time.
AWESOME SONG, SOUNDS SO POWERFULL, AND I HAVE DONE A COVER OF THIS, CHECK IT OUT, I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT, JUST CLICK ON MY CHANNEL AND YOU'LL SEE IT, THANKS
Yes, I was there (1st yr student) and they were pretty incredible. Everybody was quite amazed at Mick's costume, as I recall - it was early days for that particular look. Also saw Led Zep (crowd went wild to Whole Lotta Love, which seemed to go on for ever) and Mott the Hoople.
Its really no wonder why the Glimmer Twins refused to give Mick T his due for song writing. He was twice the musician either of them were and Richards would have felt threatened by someone exerting that kind of influence besides him from a guitar standpoint. They sacked Brian to maintain control, Taylor would have been a huge threat during his peak from 70-73. Sway, Ventilator Blues, Moonlight Mile, Can't you hear me knockin', etc etc etc.
@cgraber Yeah. Mick T. has really set the world on fire since he left. And Brian was a prick. Both guys were great WITH two great song-writers like Mick and Keith.... but neither did squat on his own. Then again; there's always some prick like you around trying to tear down people who are 50 times more talented than you'll ever be!
@swiggy58a I don't get what you mean. I'm not tearing anyone down, just saying how Taylor got ripped off for song writing credits and royalties. Its pretty well known that he was a better guitar player than Richards. Keith could never play lead like Taylor. What the fuck is your problem spaz? Mom not blow you tonight?
Excellent, but the later gig in same year at the Marquee bought out a tighter, played version. Was this concert filmed? The great days when top bands played the University circuit in the UK
@cn854 I liked the version from France 1970 very much, Mick Taylor was great there. I can easily understand that your favorite is that version. My favorite versions are this Leeds version and the one from Brussels Affair. The Altamont version, the first time they played it live, is also great - lots of charm!
@cn854 Just checked out the Paris 1970 version- you are very right. Probably one of the best Stones' recordings ever. They dispense with the formulaic approach that has mostly - very successfully live - been adopted with this gem and rock it out. Great sax riffing. At their zenith. Like a jumbo jet taking off.
@pinkpigmorrisonsheep This is the best version out there. Kieth and Mick Taylor worked so well. Kieth hit every note perfect. Mick Taylor showed he is the best ever.

I think the '73 version from Brussels is better. But Taylor's lead on both is kick ass.

This is good but kg441 has an absolutely smoking version of BS recorded in September from France, on the 1970 tour. Much better than this version.
