  • Hand pumped, lumbar support....LOL!

  • i swear these things are CURSED!! I bought one used 11 yrs ago and broke down over and over when i was out of town.. my friend bought one and did the same thing, another friend bought one and was killed on impact both est. at 45 mph..

  • Cheap shit!

  • the 1987-1996 Chevrolet Beretta was assembled in

    Wilmington, Delaware, United States

    Linden, New Jersey, United States

  • I had a 91 Beretta GT...loved that car. I'd love to have that car back, traded it in for $400 with 250,000 miles on it and running strong. The wheels alone were worth more than $400. I was a weekly watcher of Motor Week too, featuring Goss' Garage.

  • nice car

  • nothing like a quad 4! i remember test driving one in 1990, back then the only other 4 cylinder that put out bigger numbers was the Lotus Espirit.

  • Hand Pump Lumbar Support..LMAO I'm sorry that made me lose it

  • Love the intro music

  • If I was going to buy a conventional compact coupe, a V6 Beretta in good condition would be high on the list. Test drove an 88 w/ 2.8L many years ago and loved it, but the deal didn't work out.

I'm generally not fond of FWD, and don't really like the quad4, but the Chevy 60degree V6 is one of my favorite small-car engines ever. A 2.8 or 3.1 Beretta is a sweet car.

  • @yorgle11 quad 4s woop the tits out of the v6s

  • I have a 88 Beretta with 445,000 miles. It is not very fast but has alot of low end power.

  • @jazzy4887 My first car was an '88 Beretta... God I miss that car!

  • my first car was a 1990 beretta GT w/ 3.1 V6...that engine was great...nice amount of torque....nice V6 exhaust note and the damn thing went forever...put 166,000 miles on it only changing the oil...a few tune ups and new alternators...other than that ran great the day I sold it...too bad the body didn't hold up as well....LOL

  • I had an 89 Beretta GT, unfortunately the joker who had it before me messed the car up and I sunk alot of money into fixing it. Sold it for $1200.

  • ive got a 95 beretta such a sexy car X)

  • Beretta they were good cars

  • what i wouldn't give for a beretta in that good of condition

  • Ahhhhhhhhhh, a Beautiful classic well in just 5-10 more yrs.PPL dont even Appreciate Berettas style, shape, and can be sleepers.

  • this songs my jam.

  • Barettas where so nice.

  • My RSX Type S does 0-60 in 6.2 :P

  • 5:04 That was Tomorrow by Tevin Campbell on the stereo. God! I haven't heard that song in over 20 years.

  • sexy car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • honda civic si's are a joke. a brand new 2010 si is only 1/10th faster to 60 and 1/2 a second faster in the 1/4mi. throw some modern tires on this Beretta and i bet you would see much closer results.

  • Oh yeah and i bet rugger is a 16 year old has a piece of shit honda rice burner go figure.

  • Anyone who bad mouths a beretta doesn't know what they are talking about and has never drove one. I had a 1994 beretta z26 and it was a very good car. Nice amount of power and drove very well. Early 90s chevrolet was still well built and better then the piece of shit ricers most enjoy today.

  • They should have raced the RV and the Beretta. Probably would have been close.

  • @RuggerMango The Beretta was hella fast, faster than a Honda Civic Si of the same year. I guess the Si would be behind to the RV's rear bumper the whole time. :)

  • ive been a technician for gm for quite sometime, and the quad 4 (even with its early problems) was a very underated engine...SEARCH W41 OLDS/FRONTWHEEL DRIVE.

  • Reebok Pumps!

  • @APBGrrl; yep the early 90s. Those were the days!

  • I used to have a Corsica (first car) and was upset it wasnt a Beretta. The intro to the show seems older than 90. haha

  • @APBGrrl This intro was introduced in 1988 and ran to 1993. So all film in the intro must be pre-1988.

  • @whattheheck1000 That makes sense!

  • they should bring the beretta back

  • I had an '89 GT with the 2.8 motor. Loved the car. It was around until 2003 when it threw a rod.

  • Amazing quality! Thanks to you uploader!

  • The seats are ridiculous

  • wow 0:04 looks identical like a camaro

  • theme music back then was ssooooo gayyy

  • quad 4 was a horrible motor.,,,

  • Had one one time..It was (just like all G.M. cars)the most unreliable car Ihave ever owned..

  • i had a '96 beretta Z26.

  • now that is a fine fine beretta.. i wish mine looked like that

  • I had one once, that exact same color. Couldn't be any less reliable. Did a lot of work to it, and it handled great. Great gas milage, but so unreliable.

  • I owned a 92 with 3.1 V6 and liked it very much. I beat my friend's 2001 2.4 quad four cavalier in a drag race, even with my archaic 3 speed automatic and low 140HP. He had as much HP as my car but I guess the torque of my "value V6" was too much for his cavy lol.

  • amazing.

  • Good public television

  • The NA 4 banger in this car is absolutely amazing but I wish they had the Euro3400 available for it in the GTZ trim.

  • nice!! do u think that motor will mount to my brother's 89 beretta gt

  • I really liked this car back in the day. It performed really well for its time, and many of its performance numbers matched those of the BMW M3 of the time, a car that cost $20,000 more. It was an attractive car, too, and the interior upgrades in 1991 really transformed it into a car that really had a lot of bang for the buck. I personally had a 1993 GT and 1992 GTZ, and loved them both.

  • Its quick

  • Looks like the driver is afraid to shift

  • 180HP 4 cyl still holds up nicely now.

  • except for the overheating a early head gasket failures

  • and*

  • yah I have had a beretta for 6 years now and just turned over 215,000 on it. It has been a really good car, mine has the SFI

V6 though unlike the one in this vid. i got it with 140,000 and havent had any problems accept for general maintenance, and with the V6 and light body it's snappy and quick, and can run or outrun even new cars. overall very good car.

  • im driving one now and its crap, maybe would be alright if the guy who gave it to me took better care of it it would of been alright, but its not.. just going to keep driving it till it dies or i get a new job

  • There's a hispanic guy with a nice looking white GTZ in excellent condition in my area. It's still a nice looking car.

  • I always liked the Berettas, but what's up with the goofy lumbar pump?

  • Hehe. Reskined Citation. Oh lordy.

  • LMFAO 2:20

  • omg I have never seen ANY1 go threw gears like that lol

  • Comment removed

  • penis pump lumbar support

  • interesting car

  • hand-pumped lumbar... hahahahahahah

  • Ahh... the 90's

  • I don't know why anyone would ever want to fuck around with ANYTHING that has a Quad 4. Biggest piece of shit GM ever made. Oh well, to each their own I suppose.

  • I have owned 4 of these 90 gtz's and I have been in love with them since they first come out. I had replaced numerous quad 4 engines but it was all worth it to see the dumb founded look on the rice burner owners face after i passed him like he was sitting still. If you have actually driven one, your opinion would change!!

  • I've driven my fair share of L-body cars including the GTZ and I must say that I would much rather have a Probe GT or even an SE. The Beretta is noisy, loose and rattley.

  • The Probe looks so dull in comparison. I really love my 92 GTZ. It`s reliable, quiet on the highway and handles very well.

  • Actually I think the Probe looks better. I'm not much for the more "boxy" look the Beretta had. I also really like the flip up headlights. Of course, now I would just rather take those out and pop in a couple flat aftermarket projector headlights. lol I don't know, I guess its just all in personal preferance. I've never had a problem with any Probe I've ever owned. I've had a 4 cylinder and the GT and both have always had great handling and gotten good gas mileage.

  • @thasssbruuutal

It`s a mather of taste in this case. I just never liked to strange seat belts in the Probe.

  • @Airox2009 dont you be talkin about my car like that probe's r one of the best car's 2day

  • Its so funny you mention probe gt's. My brother was obesessed with those cars and still is. He had a probe gt at the same time I had my gtz's. We never actually raced although we talked about it alot. It would have been pretty close I would imagine. Im not going to put down probes, because in fairness I think they are nice cars, but I still would take a gtz anyday over one of them.

  • Wow cant belive I found this video. Well theres a Quad4 W41 engine on oldsmobile calais that does 1/4 in 14.5 secs and custom turbo @ 12.9 secs.

  • penis pump lumbar support. sweet.

  • Funny how far we've come; 7.5 0-60 was considered impressive in the early 90's. Now it is common for a car to do 6 seconds 0-60.

  • How many naturally aspirated four cylinders can you name me today that will do 7.5 sec from 0-60? There are not too many.

  • Nissan Altima Hybrid does is within 6.9s or somthing...If a nissan can do it im sure many more cars can too..shit..todays minivans can do 0-60 in 8.4s ..

  • 7.6 for the Altima Hybrid.

  • @Airox2009 Acura Integra Type-R (6.1), Acura Integra GS-R (7.8), Mazda 3s (7.6), Acura RSX Type-S (6.7), Subaru Impreza RS (7.8), Honda S2000 (6.4), Mazda Miata (7.5), Honda Civic Si (99-00: 7.2, 02-05: 7.6, 06-10: 6.3)...

The GTZ is a great car, but there are a TON of NA 4 cylinders that will do 0-60 as fast or faster.

  • @moruitelda

Too bad they tested the 90 GTZ with the crappy final drive. A 92 GTZ would have done quite a bit better in terms of acceleration. I could also name the Renault Clio RS models which do 0-60 in around 6,9 seconds stock. Still, the GTZ does quite fine for what it has. My 92 GTZ with the W41 upgrade from GM, 2.5 inch exhaust with header is rather quick. It`s slightly faster than a stock Integra Type R, hence I never really believed in those good acceleration numbers of the Integ Type R

  • @Airox2009 or 180hp thats good even by todays standards! The only 4 banger I know of that is naturally aspirated that makes that kinda of hp is hondas 2.4 i-vtech!

    It make like 191hp!

  • @Airox2009 -- S2000/Civic Si, Miata, Lotus Elise/Exige, Sentra Spec-V, Focus SVT...to name a few

  • @s2000stx12f from 1990 i guess what he means?

  • @s2000stx12f but who else from 1990?

  • @Airox2009 my spec v and quicker. But I would love to find a GTS beretta

  • @Airox2009

Correction... how many can do with WITHOUT direct injection and variable valve timing? Not many! The Quad4 was far ahead of its' time.

  • @Airox2009

Correction... how many can do it with WITHOUT direct injection and variable valve timing and be stock? Not many! The Quad4 was far ahead of its' time.

  • @Airox2009 especially in 1990.

  • @Airox2009 My 2011 Altima Coupe.

  • Yeah, you dont say, back in the day's this car was the sh!t, now , well a respectable sports car 0-60 will be in 5's second.

  • What difference does it make how your lumbar support gets inflated? at least there are no electrical components to fail.

  • hand pump lumbar support? lols

  • I had a pair of Reebok pump shoes; you inflated the tongue with a finger pump so they would be tighter. Maybe GM was trying to steal their idea LOL!!

  • i love my 91 beretta 3.1 base its got balls and it looks great! lol

  • but not near as quick as the quad 4 does

  • I like my GTU more.

  • LOL. I had to laugh at the hand-pump seat lumbar adjustment.

  • @ComfortablyxNumb59 civic type r

  • @Conway11906 lolwut

  • i remember all my friends trying to glue the dash back down cause they always peeled up below the windshield that aside Beretta's were damn good looking cars

  • i thought this gtz would have a 3.4 v6, never knew there was a high output 4 under the hood. im not hating on beretta's but a gsx eclipse would run circles around this heavy car.

  • Yeah, the turbo eclipse is faster from that time, but all the others not.

  • my 96 has a 2.2 hehe

    and runs chido!!

  • The numbers and stats on this Beretta GTZ are acceptable and good, even today. Having 27 miles per gallon is acceptable even today as well as a 22 city/31 highway rating. However, 0 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds and an almost 16-second 1/4 mile pass... not as acceptable today (sarcasm). By the way, I didn't know the Probe had a Mazda engine (starting at the 5:32 mark). Interesting video, but again, makes you wonder how far we've come with automobiles with these old videos of MotorWeek.

  • I'm fairly confident that 0-60 in 7.5 seconds is very acceptable for a naturally aspirated 4 banger. Even by today's standards. This Beretta would probably run circles around the 2004 Dodge Stratus coupe I once owned.

  • i dont agree with u, today 4 cyclinders r much better. esp. honda motors. my friend has a CRX with a B16 motor and ive watched that thing beat mustangs and other V8s

  • The 90 and 91 GTZ`s had a much worse overall gearing than the 92 GTZ. A 92 GTZ will do 0-60 in just over 7 seconds and the quarter mile in 15.2-15.5. With the W41 cams and chip you`ll see even better times. I think that is not all too shabby.

  • for the 90's it was great. but for now days... its subpar.

  • @JohnMarineTube

They tested a 90 GTZ with the long final drive. 92 models are quite a bit faster, managing quarter mile times of around 15.2 seconds.

  • even after all these years, the Baretta/Corica are still good looking cars.

  • and today are still unknown lol

  • I could not count how many Beretta's i haveowned...I currently have a '96 Z26 with 17k and a '90 Indy with 53k. Both are mint. My daily driver is an '07 Cobalt and it is not half the car the Beretta is.

  • why would you have 2? im not bad mouthing i had a GTZ triple black and it was a fun car and only paid 300$ for it with a 180000 miles on it. ran good up to 226000

  • This car needs alignment!

  • hand pumped lumbar support? what is it a pair of Nikes?

  • I had 3 Berettas a 89, Base and 2 Z26's wit da 3100V6 wit a chip .....i miss playin wit em

  • see if some 1 can load up another beretta video like this 1

  • Never Ever Ever buy domestic! Unless car repairs is your thing...The only good thing about this video is its quality!!

  • My dad`s been driving GM cars for over 30 years, mainly Chevys and Pontiacs. Never had major issues with any of the cars. The only two junk cars he had own both came from Chrysler. My mom had an Isuzu Trooper a few years back and it wasn`t at all better than the GM cars my dad had ownded.

  • I miss my Beretta GT

  • This car is one of the reasons why Honda and Toyota are number one now!!! And the quad 4 engine was just too expensive to repair.

  • Why didn't GM continue with the HO quad 4?

I always liked the way the GTZ looked.

  • welcome to motor "wheak". lol

  • ive had a 1990 beretta GTZ and a 1984 lazer, and the lazer will smoke the GTZ. But when my beretta drivin by a drunk friend hit a pole and cased the rear bumper, it fixed it self, the dent was popped out without a scratch before we got home :) but compared to the 2 i had, the beratta out handles the lazer by far.

  • I can`t imagine an 84 stock Lazer smoking a GTZ. The Lazer was available with the 2.2L Turbo and 146 hp back in that time. I raced a 90`s Daytona with the 177 hp turbo intercooled engine in my 92 GTZ and we were about even. Ok, the 92 GTZ was the fastest of all GTZ`s due du much better overal gearing. They`re capable of mid to low 15 second quarter mile times.

  • they did not mention as competition is the

    Dodge Daytona

    Dodge Stealth

    Plymouth Laser

    Eagle Talon

  • 3 of those 4 cars are the exact samething, the dodge stealth is a joke and a flop. Mopar blows.

  • no only 2 of those 4 cars r the exact same, the laser and talon because there DSM. and dsm is complete shit. they blow just like mopar

  • they didnt mention competition of the eagle talon

  • holy crap wut a pile its ok i drive a 91 so its ok lol i wont to brake it

  • woooo!!! maryland

  • The 91+ Berettas (including the GTZ) got an interior upgrade, while adding drivers' air bag to standard features. Suspension and brakes, however, remained the same. Brakes were upgraded (bigger) on all models in 92, and ABS became standard as well.

I'd like to see a review of the 91 and 92 models, and how they compare/contrast to this one.

  • they also had two different types of manual transmissions too

  • God look at that interior, wtf was GM thinking. These cars were terrible. Very unreliable. In the early-mid 90's you would see Corsicas and Berettas broken down by the side of the road all the time.

  • hand pump lumbar support????? it existed XD

  • lol @ hand pump lumbar!

  • Hey! Don't knock it until you've tried it. It comes in handy when taking long trips. My back doesn't hurt after driving 4+ hours in my Z26 like it used to in my (2nd Gen) Cavalier.

  • It isn't the adjustable lumbar that is so funny, it is how you use it (the pump) that is so archaic! A simple lever or knob would do it!

  • The 92 model has all those extra safety features.

  • Brings back good memories ... my first new car was a red '89 Beretta GT. My new Mazdaspeed3 reminds me a lot of my old GT, but with about an extra 130 HP. Still gets 30+ on the highway too! My next new car will probably be a Chevy Volt.

  • It's so weird seeing a review for a 90's GM with the old 90's technology inside; no MP3 aux I guess.

  • The Beretta was always a nice looking car.

  • ok, that car gets better gas mileage and is faster in the 1/4 mile then alot of the cars today!!lol

  • God I miss the early '90s! 180hp 4cyl, 0-60 in 7.5sec, and 31mpg hwy! Sweeeeet.

  • Quite a lot plastic in that interior!

  • That's quite respectable performance back then. 180hp for a n/a 2.2L domestic 4 banger... WOW!

  • at 6:15 it says that it got good gas mileage... how much did gas cost then? like $1.12 a gallon? my oh my how times have changed. had to fill up my F-150 today $3.50 a gallon. $70 bucks to fill it up. that was more than my first paycheck!

  • Here in Germany you`d pay around $150 to fill up your truck.

  • Time for you to find a new job or get a more economical car if filling up cost more then a paycheck =)

  • no i make good money now. but i saying when i was 17 and worked a wendies. my first pay check was only $67.13

  • than don't watch the video, stop posting your fackface comments and drive your honda off the nearest cliff

  • MOST of Detroit is engineering comparable vehicles now, but the statement I made was fact. You haven't noticed the lack of 80s and even 90s domestic metal on the roads? But many Honda's, Toyota's, Mercedes-Benz, and VW products of that era are still being driven daily... Thats because the informed owners of cars like this Chevy got pissed at the garbage build-quality and there next vehicle purchase was an import! Thats why the "Big Three" are in the red now.

  • I'm not sure where you live but in Toronto I see tons and tons of 80s and 90s domestics. The 80s japanese cars all rusted out years ago, but I still see at least 5 Chevy Celebrities driving around everyday and they stopped making those in 1989.

But do i ever see a '89 toyota, very rarely and it usually has huge rust holes, bumper is held on with ducktape and the engine is knocking. I own two '91 Taurus in immaculate condition, our GTZ also perfect, but our neighbor's '95 civic is all rusted

  • I can't argue your personal experience, and I think we should all drive whatever makes us happy. Your vehicle is a personal expression of your tastes and desires. But, the rest (more than 50%) of America seems to agree with me, judging by their purchasing habits for the last ten years...

  • I'd have to agree with 91Taurus. I NEVER see '80s imports on the roads, where as American cars of that era are a dime a dozen. However, on the newer cars, it's more evenly distributed. By the way, 180hp out of a 2.2L I4 is pretty impressive even by today's standards, let alone by those of '90, so GM did do SOME impressive engineering. My first car was an '86 Pontiac 6000 STE. Bought it with 164k miles on the clock, & got rid of it with 225k (original motor & trans). Still lit up the wheels.

  • 180HP from a 2.2L 4 banger is impressive (it's so much harder to do today!). But are numbers the only important thing?

  • ...What about how the engine sounds? How the car drives? NVH!? Peak chassis resonances? Torsional rigidity? Impact safety? Build quality? Interior cut lines? Exterior cut lines? Materials quality? Suspension design?

The list of places where GM decided to cut investment costs for more profit and watch as the competition created superior product is outlandish. I should know, I'm an engineer. The decline of the American automobile was my final Thesis.

  • I`ve driven many cars, even premium european sedans, such as the Audi A8 Quattro. Still, I love driving my Beretta GTZ. It delivers so much fun. It looks good, it sounds good, it handles very well and always puts a smile on my face when driving it. GM had quite a few fun cars back in the 80`s and 90`s, thinking of the Typhoons, Imapalas, Bonneville SSEi`s, Syclones, Grand Nationals etc.

  • yeah i know what you mean.and yes, there were cool cars in the 80s-90s,like your beretta gtz or a lumina z34,grand prix turbo,etc..but the syclones/typhoons and grand nationals...simply were at a higher level!!

  • Yeah, that`s true. The Syclones/TY`S and Grand Nationals accelerated faster than a GTZ and had better reputation. In terms of handling they are at a lower level than the GTZ. I`d love to own a Syclone or Typhoon though.

  • of course id also love to have any of them two,or the GN(because of the looks!)but the beretta clearly handles better because of weight,height..,althought the sy/ty´s brake better

  • The 90 and 91 GTZ`s had terrible brakes, the 92 models got bigger front discs luckily. Yeah, the GN and GNX look awesome, too bad they have become so expensive.

  • anyway, those sy/ty`s got very good brake system!btw, ive just found out that there´s a typhoon here in spain(we dont have any american car!).i really would like to travel to the US for buying a GN..here those cars cause a lot of impression, almost everybody likes them!i dont need a gnx,a "normal" gn is enough hehehe.what was their price some years ago?

  • anyway, those sy/ty`s got very good brake system!btw, ive just found out that there´s a typhoon here in spain(we dont have any american car!).i really would like to travel to the US for buying a GN..here those cars cause a lot of impression, almost everybody likes them!i dont need a gnx,a "normal" gn is enough hehehe.what was their price some years ago?

  • 2.3L but later on like that guys mothers 99 sunfire they were putting 2.4 qyad 4's in

  • Why are you watching videos about American cars then?

  • To marvel at how much GM has improved since accounting was booted from vehicle development control. In the switch back to an engineering led product development team, GM has begun making world-class product again after an almost 40 year absence from quality engineering. This isn't a bad car, the competition was just much better.
