My mother (70 yrs) was prescribed this (The Generic to Cipro is Ciprofloxacin) along with Prednisone. Be sure you read your Med Fact Sheet there is a WARNING as there have been lawsuits and will be more as there is a chance of getting RUPTURED TENDONS!!! My mother is not able to get up on her own or get around to the bathroom now since taking these meds. It should be taken off the market!

i'll tell you this I am a surgical technician..you don't know how many people come in daily complaining about this drug..I've seen some horrible reactions from this drug when people took it..horrible..
the side effects arent that bad. in fact all thats bothered me is a little tendon pain in the morning in my ankle. and even that lasts only 10 minutes. sheesh the comments below make it sound like a devastating super-drug. its not. it just hinders your growth rate (im short for my age, and my gastro doctor told me) so you guys should calm down, its used to treat infection for crohn's disease, which is what i have.

well the people posting about how bad cipro is aren't crazies or anything. The only reason they are posting is an attempt to spread the word! seriously, it, and other quinolone antibiotics are extremely toxic. It sounds like a bold claim but there are so many support groups online for the literally tens of thousands of sufferers of adverse effects. (some of the cases are extremely severe!!)
I'm a really healthy person, or at least was, and I was given cipro for a UTI about 8 months ago. Needless to say I've been dealing with a lot of long term side effects, probably not as bad as a lot of people out there thankfully... wayy too many to list, but some included joint pains, achilles weakness, joints cracking, really bad sleep, heart palpitations, anxiety (mostly gone), etc, etc... this is no exaggeration and could easily happen to you or someone you know! be careful! warn people

There's no doubt that it's an effective solution to resistant bacteria however it's side effects are lethal. I took Cipro 3 years ago for prostatitis & have never been the same again! I was one of the lucky ones who partially recovered from most of the side effects but it has definitely impacted me to some degree. I have also taken Oxfloxacin, and Levofloxacin in 1997 for prostatitis again, which didnt affect me like Cipro did apart from tendon pain. The makers of Cipro are fuckers!
