This is bollox,his spoter is doing half the work for him..If you cant lift the barbell off the rack by yourself and do reps without any help then the weight is to heavy for u and u should not be lifting it, its as simple as that!!

You see, my view is: barbell bench press, on top of dangerous (even with spotters), is not even a natural or functional movement anyway worth maxing out, not for heavy works, gymnastic, climbing, other sports etc. Thus it shouldnt be such a benchmark of strenght: we just don't need it. You can do it anyway quite heavy with safer dumbells and train chest with various dumbell flies. If you want that steadiness to max out poundage, do deep weighted pushups: a safe floor there instead than a bar
