@mezzanine85 What makes the episode so sad is the fact that it actually IS tragic, rather than Joe Schmoe's watered-down definition of just a bad thing happening to someone. Fry decides not to go ahead with cloning Seymour because he loved him and thought he had gotten over his disappearance. "I'll never forget him, but forgot me a long time ago." (Christ just typing that has me crying...) He decides not to re-unite with him out of love, even though in truth that dog would've loved nothing more.
