  • just saying.. my ipod was dropped from a deck railing, screen shattered, i got best buy accidental, i'm gonna get a new one for free, and i only payed $70 for the warrenty.

  • Best Buy doesnt cover my LCD TV. I got the same raw deal. They are a total rip off. Worthless. I might as well just give them the money.

  • It's only worth buying products from Best Buy if they're on sale and that is the ONLY thing you're going to buy. It's a waste of money to buy the extra stuff like warranty because they say that it's on sale, but then they try to play around with the prices of other things on the receipt to make come out as if your getting a deal, but really you're paying the regular price or more.

Fuck best buy and futureshop, NEVER buy warranty from them. It's a big rip off.

  • best buy's extended warranties for major products is a rip off such as laptops, appliances and so fourth,Buy your Warranty's from SquareTrade not only cheaper but better

  • Best buy black tie protection "basic" only covers hardware failures. Defects in the product for how ever long the plan you purchased is for, basically normal wear and tear. The accidental plan covers screen replacement, dropped machines, water damage short of submersion. I don't know what it was like in 08 but those are the plans in 2011. No one thinks their computer will break and go cheap on the plans, then get pissed when something isn't covered.

  • If you shop at Best Buy you are a tool.

  • I don;t blame ya. I always get harass with the extended warranty even thought I told them I just wanna try it out for 2 weeks and decide. They are so notorious.

  • THE ONLY good thing that I can see coming out of this is IF my laptop malfunctions 2 more times so that I can get a replacement laptop that might be a little better because it was definitely not worth the price.

  • My dad bought the 3y extended warranty and geek squad setup for the wireless internet (so stupid). All together it was like 500$ (379.99 + 79 before taxes) for that.

And on top of that the laptop (hp dv7) motherboard malfunctioned a little bit after the 2 week replacement warranty so in the end it was covered by the warranty. Took a couple weeks though.

Outrageous price, Bad product, bad service.

  • Actually I've been in retail for over 30 years

  • u dont know shit about retailers until u have worked for them, at staples where i work, we are pressured to sell warrantys and setups, we as associates know its a rip off, but thats how these big companies make money, want an example? if u get into a car accident, ur insurance company will look through every nook and cranny to delay or avoid paying for ur accident, even tho u are paying top dollar for it all and there is nothing u can do about it, its just how business is

  • your a moron, bby replaced my lg led after two trips and got a whole new tv

  • ok so a week ago i sen't in my laptop to best buy because i had an extended warranty on it. they replaced my hardrive, cpu fan, and my battery. however they didn't install an os or even back up my stuff onto the new hardrive. they told me that i had to buy a new os from them and that would run anywhere from $200-$400 wich was more than the laptop its self. best buy is the worst with warranties :/

  • @THE76OHCREW

It's your responsibility to back up your own data, not theirs. If you actually read the information on the plan you bought, you'd know that, Instead, you'd rather complain on youtube than take responsibility for not backing up your own data.

The other reason why your claim is void, is because you can buy restore discs from the manufacturer for an average of $15-$50; not for $200-$400. You should brush up on your facts before you cry on youtube about how you've been wronged.

  • @adstout620 first of all i already had my files backed up. that wasn't my problem. my main problem was that i could have done what they had done for much cheaper than i paid for the plan. and on top of that there was nothing wrong with the hard drive, cpu fan or the battery. the problem was that the Ethernet port wasn't working. so they did not need to to replace anything. maybe you should know what your talking about before you try to troll on other people lol.

  • @THE76OHCREW

Well, obviously your HDD was failing if they replaced it. If you supposedly know more than they do, then why buy the plan in the first place?

  • @adstout620 because of the fact that im not the one that bought it. it was my grandmother. and i just realized that you probably don't have a life lol. i mean, if you know so much about warranties and what not then why are you looking up videos on them? is it just to randomly talk crap on peoples comments cause you can't do it in real life?

  • @THE76OHCREW

Actually, this was a related video to a computer scam video, and most of these are pretty entertaining. I'm an IT, so I do know a few things. It's sort of funny that you say that I don't have a life, but you're the one that commented on this video in the first place.

  • standard plans dont cover damege thats why the offer the ADH plans

  • Not a warranty...

  • Its called a fucking Protection! Not a fucking warranty! .... stupid....

  • Everyone's video I have watched said their manager was rude! Mine was too. They are rude nationwide!

I've been scammed by Best Buy too, my condolences.

  • yah... you need to get the Accidental Protection Plan... then they will replace your screen.....

  • ya, most places wont cover if YOU crack the screen, but if the display goes out, then they'll replace it, its kind of bullshit. ive worked for office depot, compusa, bb, and recently staples.

staples scam is that you have to pay an extra 150-250 bucks for "accidental damage" coverage, in which case would cover you if you cracked the screen, however those plans are almost as expensive as the computers themselves.

its all relative, it depends on the item you're buying, sometimes its worth it.

  • pf1950 AKA weezy, you you didn't get a raw deal. Best Buy sells different types of service plans and the one you purchased obviously doesn't cover the screen (which they do sell ones that do).

Second, if you wan't to buy everything online, go ahead. Heck, why even leave the house? If you can save a few a few dollars by sitting in your nasty, sweat-saturated fake leather chair go for it! Pretty soon over the course of human evolution people will just be born with a head, two hands, and no mouth.

  • Their is complaints about everything no matter how awesome it is. I purchase those warranties all the time, read them, and know what it does and does not cover. So i dont get mad down the road.

    Idiot.

  • Well.... That is strange, Because Best Buy does not offer "Extended Warranties" They offer something called Geek Squad Black Tie Protection, which has proven itself to me to work on every product I buy from Best Buy. Also, in your story, why did you slander the GSBTP plan and then admit to purchasing one even if it WAS $25, that is at least two meals! I think you are a moron.. and a hypocrite...

  • this guy is an idiot !! 1400 for my tv 178 for the e.w. from best buy well guess what 2 years into it as alot of people are finding out the compacitors in all these lcds are underpowered and cuasing all kinds of problems no matter what brand. made a phone call boom the repair person was here fixed it np. upgrade them to bigger ones and i still have 2 yrs left on my warranty.im glad i protected my investment. my rule is if its under 500 bucks its not worth the warranty.

  • idk how american bb warranties work, but in canada they always end up benefiting customers if they have a defective product. a warranty doesn't cover physical damage unless it speculates it (believe me, if it did, people would buy it MUCH more often). throw one curveball at me why they aren't worth it and i can pretty much give you a reason for any question

  • the average LCD screen replacement cost about $80 is that really that expensive?

  • Did you read the warranty ? If you didn't read it its your fault.

  • First off, I work for best buy and the plans aren't a rip off. You get what you pay for. If you pay for a standard plan then you get standard coverage, and if you go with the advance plan then the overall coverage OF YOUR HARDWARE, not your system. For that their are Anti-virus and Vi-Spy. And if you just want the one year manufacturer warranty, then don't expect us to help. We care for our customers, but customers the always want things for free, THIS IS A BUSINESS, NOT A CHARITY!

  • @Mryeahdho an extended warranty is not needed. It's not a "rip-off", but it's far more intelligent to keep the money you would have spent on the warranty in a CD and either put that money towards potential repairs, or towards the replacement cost down the road. The warranty is a profitable tool, but not a necessary service for customers.

  • @Mryeahdho agreed, it's not a charity. But the way employees paint the PSP to be a protection plan (like they are on your side, looking out for you) is an unfair portrayal. If you guys quoted actual mechanical defect rates no one would buy the PSP, but instead you play on uneducated peoples fears, and make them feel like a electronic meltdown in unavoidable and guaranteed to happen under the duration of your BTP.

  • Best Buy Black Tie Protection is NOT a waste of money. If you read the fine print or pay attention for a cracked screen you MUST have the ADH plan. Standard plan will NOT cover that. No plans cover viruses which is understandable. I am a Geek Squad Agent and back the plans 100%. I purchase plans on everything I purchase that is expensive. Pay attention to the different plans as they offer different coverage.

  • @illini1990 the BTP is also massive amounts of money (ratio wise) for all those protections. I've seen protection plans that are exceeding 30% of the baseline cost of the product. Considering the limited window you cover (up to 3 yrs.) and the fact that it runs parallel to the manuf warranty you are only covering 2 naked years fully, and not taking into account the decay cost of the technology over time. You purchase plans because you get a massive discount on the PSP, and pressured by mgt.

  • @illini1990 here is an example. a $1399.99 sony i7 laptop has a 2 YEAR premium plan for $449.99. This is 32.1% of the cost of the laptop, paid day 1 without a single defect. All non-accidental repairs are covered for free (parts/labor) for the first year. So for 32% of the cost of the computer, you are getting accidental coverage for 2 years, and 1 year of Best Buy part/labor. Your risk model shows you would break even on PSP money if 1 and 3 laptops you sell fully break every 2 yrs. Lies.

  • Yes I'd go to a thrift//pawn shop before I go back to best buy. I bought a computor from best buy I had to throw it out cause best buy wouldn't repair it!!!

  • How is dtvexpress.Warranty

  • A nuvi GPS extended warranty price is 25. And you got the standard, not the accidenatal coverage plan.

  • There are two different types of warranties at bestbuy: the PSP and the BTP. The BTP is covered by GeekSquad, while the PSP is covered by the manufacturer. In these catagories, there are different levels of coverage. As a consumer, before buying a product, you need to find out all possible information of the product or service. The screen cracked is accidental damage and is covered with a BTP, but not PSP and only if you have the 3 year warranty. Keep this in mind, next time you want a warranty.

  • DO NOT get a Best Buy warranty. I got one for a laptop. It is expensive, and then every time you need service they are: slow, the manager is rude, they figure out how to charge you for everything, they do not care about the customer.

  • i thoguth best buy was a good company however when seeing the hastle my gf had with her sony vaio, i decided not to buy from them. she had an extended warranty however it didnt cover software issues. they said that they needed to send it to the manufacturer. and they only covered hardware issues. watch out for whatever they say and make sure you know all their policies. note that best buy has become a horrible company that only wants your money.

  • I would just say no to Best Buy all together. Their prices have dramatically gone up especially now that compusa and circuit city are gone. I especially hate the so-called 15% restocking fee.

  • my experience with BB warranty: Bought one for my 52 in TV for 500$. The bulb died 3 times (300$ a pop), the extended warranty would not cover it. The first time it went out, the manufacturer cover it. BB calls it a "Performance Warranty", i.e. not the same as a Manufacturer Warranty. No wearable parts are covered in there PSP (i.e. basically nothing is cover since any part can technically be considered as wearable). Pure rip off from my experience.

  • here's the clincher though on ext warranties. with most stores like bb if u do not buy the ext warranty then the store will only cover the product for 30 days. after that period u deal with the mfr directly.

  • Ok, please let me clear this up coming from a Best Buy Employee in the computers dept

-No extended warranty covers cosmetic damage (which includes cracked screens) the only exception to that is Lenovo

It is up the the consumer to take proper care of the laptop

-Second many other things can go wrong with a laptop besides the mother board and parts can be very expensive

SO before you completely write extended warranties off, take a minute to listen to a sales person

Keep in mind if from BB Canada

  • One note: The accidental handling service plan covers cracked screens and any damage to the case that hinders the working condition. From an agent.

  • @waldo1547 Bets buy is a huge scandle ....that company should be shut down.

  • I bought a laptop from Best Buy today and they bugged me to buy an extended warranty...for $280 for 2 years and $320 for 3 years. Then the guy got a bit rude when I kept telling him no. If that wasn't enough, he wanted me to pay $120 for a setup fee so the Geeksquad could "optimize" my computer and install some programs which I easily installed myself.

  • the best buy extended warranty is a load of shit i bought an ipod touch and got a 3 year ipod touch extended warranty for 60 dollars and then it just wouldnt turn on one day and i took it to best buys return/exchanges depo and told them the problem and i wanted a new one because that is what the warranty stated and then they said oh well our policy changed so you cannot get a different one wtf

  • @holyrocnroll Then it is up to you at that point to say I don't care if your policy has changed, that's what it was when I bought the agreement so you need to honor what the agreement said at the time that I purchased it. And then if they still do not want to honor the agreement that you purchased you then send them a certified return receipt letter demanding that they honor the agreement or you will take legal action against them.

  • the point is that they used to tell you screen was covered making extended wty worthwile--they no longer say that

  • Strange, maybe BB US works a little different, because I work for BB canada, and to be quite frank i have seen plenty of laptops replaced/fixed under our service plans, ive seen hinges completely obliterated, and it was just fine, no questions asked.

  • I am from BB Canada too

I can personally say that I have had a $700 repair done on a tablet laptop of mine for free

and right now that same hp tablet is on for a $400 repair for a new mother board

People, we are not on commission!

I personally don't recommend something unless a see a benefit to the customer

And we have some of the best managers in the business, we put the customers first and always do what ever we can to help them out.

  • NO standard warranty or best buy warranty covers a cracked screen! Thats classed as accidental damage not a defect..! If the screen dies or you get a weird picture, that is covered but not if you crack the screen! Idiot.

  • Accidental Damage is covered by the Accidental service plan. It is more expensive but covers drops, spills, and damage covered by normal wear and tear.

  • To be honest you sound like someone who doesnt understand what is being told to you or else you would not be on the phone so long. read what you purchase and stop complaining. You can read a complaint about any and all retailers online. bunch of whinners

  • how about you read your terms and condition brochure idiot. It states damage is not covered. The manuf warranty does not cover damage either. So Sony would not have repaired you computer. Maybe you should be more careful with your stuff jackass

  • Only bought BB warranties two times, and when i dident they wher still very happy to help me out. Also happy to answer questions and even reccomend the cheaper product if it will better benifit me. Never gave me and crap on returns or exchanges.

  • You are sooo STUPID!!! i work for best buy and there are two plans to choose from dumbass! if you are a cheap skate and don't get the one for the ADH damage then they won't help you! and for you to say that we don't care about our customers shows how stupid you really are! best buy is a customer centered store! what a jerk off!

  • Do not buy any crap from best buy. They are a rip off store. Even when they have the best price they push to "set up" your computer. For 99$ they will tweek it. These bozos will screw up your computer. do not let them touch your stuff. The guy below is an idiot. If you spend $ on the so called black tie you have wasted your $

  • That black tie crap is a mega ripoff!

  • think about it like this, say you have a 600 dollar computer and your screen cracked on it, you can get a new one if you get the simple 99 dollar accidental plan, or you can get it replaced by either your manufacture (if they can do it) or through geek squad for 500-700 dollars lol. thats what the protection plan is for, and its not extended, it starts the day you get it, pay attention to the salesman people, duhh....

  • There are 2 different service plans at Best Buy. One covers accidental damage (the screen), and standard service. You probably got the standard. I highly recommend their black tie protection. They gave me a replacement while mine was getting fixed. But a cracked screen can only happen from impact. You had to physically break the screen. Its not their fault
