MotownMagic1959, Thank you. This one got by me. And as a Marvelettes #1 fan I am happy to have come across this one again after 45 years. It totally has that 1965 sound. The sexy sound of the Mavelettes give me a natural high. Wow. There's "BiIl", "Hunter" "Captured" "Magician"
"Beechwood" "Postman" "Forever". Get the Point? Thanks MM1959.
MotownMagic1959 Dude yesss sir it's fantastic I am a Marvelettes fanatic and this one slipped by me onl because I was hyped by the please mr. postmans, dont mess with bills AND my favorite when the hunter gets captured- you feel me but this one is definitely in the same league in my opinion Thank you much now I'm going for the 3rd replay PEACE!

Motown at its best and Wanda sings this song with vigor. The girls were at the top of their game here but sadly we'd see them demise a few years later in the late 60s. They still reign as one of the best girl group.
Now listen to this...I just turned 64. I am sitting at my desk, and I break out into this song, just the way I heard it and felt it the first time I heard it. Maybe a different venue, but the message still rings true! I used to sing Professionally and maybe that is why it surfaced? Or maybe because it rock's to this day! Thank you LADIES, you are missed!
This song ROCKS! Listened to and loved Motown my whole life, but I only heard this song for the first time a couple years ago....in a supermarket! I knew it was the Marvelettes by the vocals--is that Gladys Horton?
Driving rhythm track and hot Wanda vocal make "I'll Keep On Holding On" one of the all time classic tracks from great 60's Motown Era...wore out old 45rpm to the point no sound and thankful for Compact Disc versions...Bravo Marvelettes!
@simon4186 That's really nice to know Simon, you'll be glad then if you listen to my other 250 rare releases mostly unreleased from Motown's vaults after all these years :-) I've a huge number of The Marvelettes 1960's original singles on here as I was once a DJ, and thanks mainly to UMG, newly released CD's of "A Cellarful of Motown" that are excellent in my opinion, well worth buying indeed, that have the unreleased tracks on. JOHN
@DoctorRadio They sure were brilliant, as you say, and thanks to all the other nice comments here from you Motown fans, they were very good times for me and Motown in the 1960's!! JOHN
boy i like this song. wish i could remember it from '65. but i was only a small tyke, who got all caught up in the motown sound in northern iowa. white-ass northern iowa. needless to say i took a lot of gruff for it. but time proved me right. -djQ
Motown's most overlooked single, period. One of the best backing rhythm tracks ever put down by the Funk Brothers, and those shrill explosions of voice throughout are just incredible. They remixed this into stereo later and sucked the life out of it. This mono version--sounds like it was recorded at the bottom of a cavernous stairwell--has a groove that you don't get with all of the instruments separated.
Just for the record... no pun intended, Wanda Rogers sang lead on this song. Hunter and Stevenson were the composers and wrote it while the Marvellettes were gigging in New York and decided to record it on the spot.
This song really rocked! I like a lot of the Marveelttes' releases, between 1963 oand 1968. Their earlier stuff(pre 1963) was TOO studiedly ameteurish and shrill, and the latter stuff (post 1968) was mostly the Andantes...
yes! YES! this song rocks hard, deep, soul. listen to any early supreme's pop hits, see if u feel the same soulfulness comin thru.. sure they were great songs but they don't go here... the marvelettes were deeply rooted in soul, & even though they had major hits like postman, i suspect their sound was still very distinquisibl-y blk, barry craved conquering pop radio, ross had the chops to do that; I AIN'T MAD AT EM. who knows, motwon might have not sustained itself without the temps& supremes.
Listen to that fat thick house music bassline! This blows the Supremes into the dust! It's a shame all the talent that was sidelined because of Gordy's obsession with Diana Ross. If he was fully intelligent, and no doubt he was smart, he could have made millions and millions more if he'd bothered to promote the other groups to the extent he promoted the Supremes. It's as if the other stars who were equally or more talented then Diana Ross got absolutely no real attention. Sad story really.
@mrbrandon71 Never a truer word spoken. yes Diana had a good voice but was shadowed by the likes of Barbara Mcnair , Tammi Terrell and in my opinion Mary Wells who all had superior voices but didn't make the grade because of Gordy's obsession with Miss Ross
Yo I love this song especially when I found out that Wanda Rogers was the other lead singer, I'm 41 and thought for all these years I thought Gladys Horton was the only lead singer, listening 2 my parents playin the Marvellettes.. suddenly I'm Wanda Rogers historian..
Smoldering & soulful classic should have been a #1 Hit for the marvelous Marvelettes but radio didn't program but wore out old 45 rpm...Bravo Marvelettes!!!
Memories keep flooding back from the scooter rallies of 80-83, When we would invade the seaside resorts and take over the whole place!! This music still gives me goosebumps!! Love it!!!!! Thanks !!!

This whole production. The rhythm, the bass, the horns, the tambourine, the hand claps....This song had you up on your feet. Too bad it did not chart well.
Wanda Rogers (and the rest of the original Marvelettes) were from Inkster, Michigan, so the lisp was natural. They weren't city girls like the Supremes & Vandellas were.
Wasn't there another version of this song on this site that had an excellent montage of The Marvelettes and ONLY The Marvelettes instead of EVERYBODY and their "Grandma" in it!!!You Tube can be SO fickle!
I used to dance to this religiously every friday night at the bubblegum factory club in brighton aged 16. Sooooooo gooood!

Carolyn Crawford -- there's an artist who didn't have much commercial success, but who had a great voice.
As for the Marvelettes, the lead singer had a very different kind of voice, very sexy, very smooth. She sounded great on all the records.
