My Theater teacher is the one who is playing the piano for Gary...

His name is John Morris, they were really good friends and they lost track of eachother.

Today he found out that Gary had died from hiss daughter.

He then showed us tthe "American Life" featuring this. He cried the entire time.

This guy is awesome. I had never heard of Groovin' Gary until about 10 minutes ago, but I'm fascinated. I'm afraid I don't know any of the back story, so I'm about to Google it. This looks like it was filmed about thirty years ago, which figures. The guy in this interview is a character who doesn't seem to know that he's a character -- a rare, precious commodity in our current age of self-conscious cuteness. If I met someone like that today, I'd follow him with my camera non-stop for 3 years.
