not too worried. I too am a life long Alaskan. this will be my 5-6 volcanic fallout (from different volcanoes mind you). A few facts: 1) Alaska has more active volcanoes than any other state. 2) Alaskan volcanoes can erupt VERY violently (think Krakatoa!). 3) Many scientists still agree that the largest volcanic eruption last century was from the Alaskan volcano Katmai (actually now believed to be Novarupta), and it created the Valley of 10,000 smokes.
I live in Anchorage and have been through several eruptions here. Most are only a little inconvience however jet airliners dont work too good with ash in their engines. A planeload of people almost died last time redoubt blew when thei plane flew through an ash cloud and the engines quit and they lost over 10,00 feet altitude before they got going again. Also, air traffic was disrupted in lower 48 states as well.
I would so that it is going to erupt. At least that is what the best scientists in the world are saying. I saw a blog with some people from Anchorage (about 100 miles from Reboubt) and they didn't seem too worried. The question is how close are you to Mt Redoubt? Go to my site and check out AVO as they are a great source of info.
I doubt it will spew out a few hundred billion tonnes. By 2010 the output of man produced GG will be at around 34 billion tonnes a year or more. Besides the bigger threat from volcanos is that they block sunlight and cool the earth.
its erupted 19 times now.just heard on the news something is going to happen mother earth is
waking up now i wonder wat other suprises she has installed for us next?
