no I'm not goin to take this down. Just because Rachel lost her first race back off of a 6 month layoff. Doesn't mean anything. Even her trainer said that she wasn't 100% fit for that race!! She can still be as good if not better than she was last year.

Zenyatta does not have or has never had tactical speed; this is a problem if you are sitting 8 to 10 lengths of a slow pace even if you are coming home in a final 1/4 mile of 22seconds flat. She is truly one of the all time greats however Rachel can finish as well and I suspect she will be rated 2 to 3 lengths of the pace as that is how she has been training recently chasing work mates. Mike Smith better keep his horse closer than usual and will this effect her closing kick?
Both horses like the track and surface as we see in each horses respective race
last year so it does not come down to which horse is better it comes down to pace. Please note Holy Bull's race in 1994 Traver's Stakes @ Saratoga. A rabbit was put in the race by D.W. Lukas to burn out Holy Bull for Tabasco Cat. This rabbit made H.B. run very fast early and Concern just missed him! If RA chases a 1:34.1 mile she will not come home under 12 but if they go 1:36 she will have tons left!

Ginger,It doesn't matter where you are int he pack you have to judge the distance.
You have to keep a good pace with a front runner. If you set a blistering pace then down the stretch the horse will more than likely fade and won't hold of challenges.
Rachel would certainly lead and set fast fractions for most of the race. But inevitably she'd be unable to stop the "runaway locomotive" named Zenyatta from closing on her, running her down, and blowing right on by for a short win at the wire. In my opinion, Zenyatta ran down and passed better horses than Rachel in the Classic. Rachel run's great, but Zenyatta's a great runner.
FYI MR or Miss rude. I watched the Breeder's Cup races. So I watched Zenyatta win the Breeder's Cup Classic. And if you had't noticed. I made and posted this vid months before the Breeder's cup. Next time look to see when the vid was posted.
Also Rachel is beaten at least once and coming from the back can be harder than starting in the front because if you judge the distance wrong you will lose

this years crop is really better than most in recent times look at how well they proform when faced with older horses in maJor G1 races like the JCGC and Woodward
Age does matter to an extent. Normally a mare/filly isn't as succsessful as the boys becuase once they hit around 3 to 3 1/2 their thinking about babies not racing. You also really didn't get what I was saying. Some comments were saying that rachel alone has outdone Zenyatta this year w/ her amount of wins. I agree. But for Zenyatta's whole lifetime, she's done better then Rachel could ever do in her racing career. Its just my option though. I prefere Zenyatta over Rachel.
in what way has zenyatta outdone RA this year? zenyatta raced on one track all year, won less races. only competed in one open company race. where all her seroius rivals would have a disadvantage seeing that they are all dirt horses. and Rip van winkle has serious health issues. she has avoided the all the geatest races except one. she does not have any triple crown race, no G1 open company dirt or turf race. this is a very limted resame.

They are the two best horses in racing right now. If they both stay in training, they need to meet to decide who's best. They are both remarkable. I feel like I'm watching Ruffian again, but hopefully without the same result...Congrats to Zenyatta today on her win. That was an AMAZING race!!!!
They did exactly what Rachael's group figured they forced Zenyatta's connections to do and she did it easily and because they put the ball in their court, and Zenyatta beat the best the world had to offer of any sex, not to mention at a distance (1 1/4) Rachael hasn't every attempted at any class level less along a graded I race against the best in the world will stamp her without any doubt as the reigning "Horse of The Year" 2009

I think both the filly and the mare are two amazing horses, but its virtually impossible to compare the two when their running styles are so different. yes rachel has beaten the boys buts shes never run on poly zenyatta hasnt yet raced the boys but she has won a race on dirt as well as the many shes won on poly. now we will never really know who is better cuz RA wont be at the breeders cup (which will be zenyattas last start) so we just need to stop trying to compare
Zenyatta will mow RA down just like every other horse she's ever faced. Zen doesnt care about the pace or how many lengths behind she'll be. She just knows when its time to run and she refuses to lose. RA is an amazing filly but Zen is an amazing mare. There's a difference. its a shame RA will not be at the BC in 2 weeks. The racing world deserves this matchup !

Well ever since what happened to Ruffian. There haven't been any match races. Against two great horses. Now a days they try to get the two horses in the same race. To see who is better. no I'm not goin to take this down. Just because Rachel lost her first race back off of a 6 month layoff. Doesn't mean anything. Even her trainer said that she wasn't 100% fit for that race!! She can still be as good if not better than she was last year.

no matter where they run... the only thing that counts is how and who crosses the finish line. since they both have the capabilities to do just that.....id say they are both great. lets not ask for more than that . you never want to push you just accept them. eight belles and ruffian were a grim reminder no matter how powerful... they are still fragile. love them...

Zenyatta does not have or has never had tactical speed; this is a problem if you are sitting 8 to 10 lengths of a slow pace even if you are coming home in a final 1/4 mile of 22seconds flat. She is truly one of the all time greats however Rachel can finish as well and I suspect she will be rated 2 to 3 lengths of the pace as that is how she has been training recently chasing work mates. Mike Smith better keep his horse closer than usual and will this effect her closing kick?

Both horses like the track and surface as we see in each horses respective race
last year so it does not come down to which horse is better it comes down to pace. Please note Holy Bull's race in 1994 Traver's Stakes @ Saratoga. A rabbit was put in the race by D.W. Lukas to burn out Holy Bull for Tabasco Cat. This rabbit made H.B. run very fast early and Concern just missed him! If RA chases a 1:34.1 mile she will not come home under 12 but if they go 1:36 she will have tons left!

Get real. The Breeders Cup was ran on that fake plastic crap that Zenyatta has spent her entire career running on. None of those other horses were used to it. Zenyatta has only one move and on dirt against a horse with the speed of RA it becomes useless. Zenyatta will get smoked by RA and Bambera in the Apple Blossom. Bank on it.

@ginita105 ummmmm ok zenyatta won the breeders cup classic at the end of 2009 if you didn't notice and that was against YOUNGER colts. so you can't say zenyatta hasn't beaten the guys. and also if you look at it, rachel was against same age or older males most of the time. and the preakness, while being HUGE it isn't as amazing because sometimes people don't aim their fillies toward those races, the main reason is that like she beat the colts...just thought i should let you know

You have to keep a good pace with a front runner. If you set a blistering pace then down the stretch the horse will more than likely fade and won't hold of challenges.

Rachel would certainly lead and set fast fractions for most of the race. But inevitably she'd be unable to stop the "runaway locomotive" named Zenyatta from closing on her, running her down, and blowing right on by for a short win at the wire. In my opinion, Zenyatta ran down and passed better horses than Rachel in the Classic. Rachel run's great, but Zenyatta's a great runner.

I believe that Zenyatta would win because Rachel Alexandra has shown us about all shes got and has had to easy a go with all of her opponents while Zenyatta hasn't shown us all shes got she just shows enough to win and also she has now easily passed the colts in a race no filly ever won can Rachel Alexandra say that I am not saying Rachel is a bad horse, but I do not believe her as good as Zenyatta, but I would rather keep guessing and never find out because it would take the magic out of it

Age does matter to an extent. Normally a mare/filly isn't as succsessful as the boys becuase once they hit around 3 to 3 1/2 their thinking about babies not racing. You also really didn't get what I was saying. Some comments were saying that rachel alone has outdone Zenyatta this year w/ her amount of wins. I agree. But for Zenyatta's whole lifetime, she's done better then Rachel could ever do in her racing career. Its just my option though. I prefere Zenyatta over Rachel.

in what way has zenyatta outdone RA this year? zenyatta raced on one track all year, won less races. only competed in one open company race. where all her seroius rivals would have a disadvantage seeing that they are all dirt horses. and Rip van winkle has serious health issues. she has avoided the all the geatest races except one. she does not have any triple crown race, no G1 open company dirt or turf race. this is a very limted resame.

I love to see this kind of discussion in racing. Course knowledge is huge. The Polytrack argument is somewhat lame in my opinion. They are both beautiful horses but Zenyatta laid it out against the best of the boys..... and won. I do wish Rachel had been there..it would have been an amazing race. I gotta give it to Zenyatta. Z will destroy this horse, because Z is more fit and she has more experience and can race over differnt tracks Z also won against the best of the boys and she was there waiting for Ra BUT the reason why Ra was not there was Curlin lost last year and they blamed in on the track which was bull any way Ra has ran on synthic and won so i dont see a reason why she wasnt there And just beause Z stays off the pace means nothing each horse has a differnt riding style and she also has a longer stride

I think both the filly and the mare are two amazing horses, but its virtually impossible to compare the two when their running styles are so different. yes rachel has beaten the boys buts shes never run on poly zenyatta hasnt yet raced the boys but she has won a race on dirt as well as the many shes won on poly. now we will never really know who is better cuz RA wont be at the breeders cup (which will be zenyattas last start) so we just need to stop trying to compare
