If you've ever read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Alice in Wonderland, you would know that they are suppose to be dark childrens stories. If anything, Burton is conveying the same emotion carried in the books. In doing so, hes honoring the original authors vision. Please don't take this response as me being a jerk. Just starting a healthy discussion. ;)

i did read the books as a child including the glass elevator and that's why i loved them so much. even still there are memorys attached to the original films as well. Gene Wilder (i think that's how you spell his name) played Willy in a way that although was kind of out there it never drew away from the story(movie) being about charlie. on the other hand you have depp who always becomes the center of the film. look at this new movie. the mad hatter wasn't a huge part of the original but its depp

The thing is that Depp sales tickets. So that's how they're going to market the film. Doesn't necessarily mean thats the way the actual film is going to be... or I least I hope it doesn't...

if you bother to read the actual books of things like charlie and the chocolate factory, alice in wonderland, and the wizard of oz, you will see that they are not childrens stories but actually very dark stories. alice in wonderland in particualr is filled with loads of philosophical takes on events that were happening at the time. it's was only disney-fied for kids, and money, Burton's doing the author a favour with this film, this is it's true nature.

When i heard tim burton was directing this i thought he was making a movie based off the game by American Mcgee (i think thats who made the game not 100% sure), it seemed more up his street because it was really twisted and gothic, but this just seems weird.

I'll be completely honest now and say that when I first heard of the idea, I expected only the worst. I was afraid that Tim Burton would ruin one of my most beloved stories of all time, and that all of a sudden, teenagers would have the largest frenzy and immediately think AiW was the next 'it' thing. But this trailer, from what I've seen of the movie so far, actually isn't too bad. Of course, I still have millions of doubts in my mind, but I think this puts me at ease for the time to come.
