This special lady was a bit before my time as I am a life long Bowie and rock fan. However, as a boy all my heroes were from this era, and this wonderful lady has a voice like an angel. Thanks to all the men and women who fought in WW 2 and those who gave there life so that I could be free. Thank You.
@7855waldo i think he means the nostalgia of the War era. When men and women where far away from each other, lovers, friends and family. People whom could never come back and they never did. Thats quite nostalgic.
I remember going to this with my grandmother - we saved up for 3 years so that my nan, me and my mother could go. you couldnt get the smile of my nans face for a week. She died 6 weeks after we got home.
Oh my, I had not heard her voice since my early childhood. My grandmother was from England, living with us during the war. The Brits had Dame Vera Lynn and we had Kate Smith. There was no internet or skype of course, but these songs kept the spirit up. England was being bombed unmercifully and a story I cannot verify says that Dame Lynn was performing one night in London when the hits started to come. "Save Vera Lynn, Churchill can fend for himself." Brilliant video, many thanks.
UNA SEÑORA VOZ COMO LA COPA DE UN PINO...CANARIO......EXTRAORDINARIA...........SHIRLEY BASSEY HOY EN DIA ES ......LA UNICA QUE PUEDE HACER ALGO PARECIDO....A LOS 73 AÑOS.......UNA MARAVILLA..........POR ALGO FUE QUIEN FUE........UNA CANTANTE MARAVILLOSA...........A LO LARGO DE MUCHAS DECADAS.........Y CONDECORADA........POR SU ARTE .......SU VOZ Y SU PERSONALIDAD.........VIVA VERA LYNN....POR SIEMPRE..........UNA NUMERO UNO.........EN EL PLANETA......
I'm 17, my hairs are standing up on arms...some music has that affect on you. She is fantastic, the whole piece was really well thought out. Would give so much to live in the 1940's!
That was fabulous, oh so fabulous!! I so enjoyed that show, I imagined the Queen singing along, because these are the songs the Queen would have known. NO matter what, Vera's songs joined all Classes and all of Britain's people, TOGETHER.. xo
WOW, Still such stage presence and such beauty. And that Glorious god given voice.Wonderful Thankyou Dame Vera for Everything. My grandfather was in WW2 and he recalled just how the boys lived to hear her singing and just for a brief moment they felt that "Home" Was there with them and that people were thinking about them.

00: 50: "No one could recall better for us the nostalgia of those days..."
Who wrote this weirdo script for this poor fellow to read?
This is NUTS!
"Those days" were in the 1940s. People in 1940s were nostalgic for the 1900s, 10s, 20s, etc.
You can't be nostalgic for the era in which you are currently living.
No one says, "I remember it like it was just yesterday" if the event occurred yesterday!

@ladyunebarton - Well said, and I thank you for your eloquence.

@ladyunebarton - I also may add that we have no one like DVL in the USA (I hope I'm not overlooking any worthy names!)
So we've had to make do with the ultra-patriotic Barbra ("Gimme gimme gimme") Streisand, which is a depressing thought, as you can imagine.
