I first want to compliment you on the overall performance because it was superb. secondly, I am learning this piece and I just have trouble with that middle section! when the tempo changes to allegro it just gives me such a hard time! Do you have any suggestions on how I should practice it? Oh and for some of those chords I cannot reach all of the notes . Thank you!

I like your sensitivity. but I think taking a bit less freedom with tempo might be better because I see this music as a very still (as in not moving) picture that has a introverted sadness. this is from 1998. have you played it recently?

Overall a gorgeous adaptation. However I didn't particularly like the way you played the "middle" section. The appegiated diminished chords I found happened too quickly for my liking. But that's just my own thoughts...

Yes, I can agree partially about that. After 12 years I am sure that "quick" will have different meaning but 12 years ago- I felt perfect about that. I am sure that you will understand what am I talking about :-)

@nick69rose yup absolutely with you there. It's nice to hear his interpretation of this part anyway. I didn't find it particularly bad, but he didnt put enough stress on it imho. Those clear chords are a release from the depressive emotions suggested from the first part, maybe one shouldn't just rush it but let the audience dream for just a millisecond there before the theme returns to its dark atmosphere again.

You are the ONLY pianist (aside from me, apparently) who plays the rising arpeggios at the end of the middle section correctly--as eighth notes. Every one else (including his excellency, the great Sviatoslav Richter) suddenly transforms them to quarter notes! Listen to the other recordings on YouTube and you will hear it. Why do they do that?

Actually I'm playing this one as well and I really liked what you did with it but I think the major part (Allegro giocoso) should sound a bit more like a hymn... Well, my playing is not half as good as yours, so it's just a jealous girl's attempt to feel better^^

Don't try to play chords there. Just understand the melody and try to understand that those chords are integrated into that melody. If you feel and know how to play that melody the way you want, the chords will be fine as well...
