When Mrs Kay's 'Progress Class' are unleashed for a day's coach trip to Conway Castle in Wales, it is an exuberant celebration of the joys and agonies of growing up and being footloose, fourteen and free from school. But this is more than a romp - it points up the depressing present and empty future for these comphrehensive no-hopers from the backstreets of Liverpool, for whom a day out is as much as they can expect.
I would hav my children i taught and looked after by Briggs than Kay. Allthough she seems very nice and friendly it looks as though she has given up on these kids!
Taught for 12 years and constantly thought about Mrs Kays speech and realised shes right.I believe in strong discipline and get it but most kids in a normal rough comp are failed at bringing up, fail in the way they act and their lives will replicate this, thats why I do trips....enjoy it while you can !!

I was meant to be a hippy, but I don't do hippy. I raided my wardrobe and my 'hippy' outfit os more goth than anything D: so I'm a gothic Mrs Kay, we just need some skeletons for children, a real liv bear and Tim Burton :D
@63cmn haha gotta use toy ones, but I'd love to smuggle some chickens into school. However, we decided normal toys arre boring, so might use pokemons instead xD
Actually, I want to bring in a real bear, that would entertain the audience, bet they've never been eaten alive by a bear before...
@63cmn haha, the part itself isn't too bad,we've changed it around abit so Mrs Kay is genuinely lovely and honestly cares and Briggs is some evil cruel dictator. It's just the play, it's so dull. It's the worst production ever >_<
Mrs. Kay wears a mask of love, but underneath is a condescending, cynical bitch who writers 'her kids' off as factory-fodder the moment they walk through her door. Briggs seems like the antagonist at first but is the only one who offers hope and the chance of a better future; he was the only one who could truly talk Carol down from the cliff.
i think 03:29 is hilarious. i suppose it wasnt a big deal then but if she did that now shed probably get sued or fined or something. ithought she was gonna drown him when i first saw this.
Kay's a bitch. she hides behind this warm pleasant exterier but in reality Mr Briggs is a much better person. even though he appears a bit of a twat untill the pnultimate scene.
@EvilMonk3y1999 I think she thinks she's being realistic rather than being a b---h but I have to admit I don't like her acting all nice and permissive to the kids while secretly having the attitude that the kids are hopeless cases. Briggs seems to believe that they're actually capable of achieving something even though like you said, he's sort of a jerk and sometimes he doesn't realize how hard it is for the kids to overcome their environment.
I read this in year 8 and we then did a court session for Mr Briggs and Mrs Kay! Mr Briggs was not guilty and Mrs Kay was guilty! It was so funny cause we got to dress up and do the accents!
8:44 ... nice up nose shot briggsy;D
