@MizeryLovesCompany77 the employees of the restaurant usually go around after the dance to collect the money... i think we've gotten so used to seeing that happen, that we don't even really pay attention to it when it's being gathered.
p.s. i think the crowd is armenian (based on the other videos from this same restaurant)
The lovely and talented Denise! :-) She's a great bellydancer and teacher. I recognize her graceful and yet playful style. Thanks for sharing this video, "Dr2cool4u".
It is their custom to throw money like. A dancer who is use to dancing for Arabs would not consider that they are being rude or getting in the way of the show, they understand that this person is showing appreciation. The show is more about making the audience feel good than just showing off your skills.
The dancer in this video is one of the cutest nicest people you could ever meet i LOOOOoOOOoove her. i worked with her the other night AMAZING she is well worth all that money
Sometimes the band claims all the money on the floor. Money necklaces are a nice way to make sure the dancer gets to keep the tips without the indignity of having them shoved into her costume :)
the bills are folded and linked together to make a "necklace" that can be bestowed on the dancer without touching her or dropping the money on the floor.
the original song is called "Harramt Ahebak" By the famous Egyption singer Warda Al-Jazairia. This is a very famous Arabic song and it is done by many arab singers like this version in my video clip but i'm not sure who sing this one particularly. hope i answered your questions.
We were there the night this was shot. Girl on rt for most of vid is my BF Lou Lou La FlaCa Reeves. My sister n law Arpy Hosevpian is sitting next to her. Never thought we'd find them on YouTube!
I would imagine that one of the waiters would use a broom (or something similar) to gather all of the money, and then would bring it to the dancer. But that's just speculation. If I ever see a money shower on this grand of a scale, I'll let you know what happens afterwards.
The restaurant usually gets the busser or maybe a waiter to pick it up. They don't usually sweep it because then you'd get all the dirt from the floor too. It really doesn't take that long to pick it up. If it's a party they leave all the tips there for the rest of the night until it's over. at restaurants its usually after each set. Dancers don't/shouldn't pick up their own money. It's very low class. Tipping differs from culture to culture. It's always good to ask your server how to tip 1st.
HOWEVER- not all dancer know to negotiate for these traditional terms and get ripped off by owners, musicians or both. In these cases it's no wonder some dancers prefer costume tips over money showers- as that is easier to negotiate as hers.
c vraiment nul de j'eté du pez kom sa, chui choké, c a cause de bonhomme comme sa ke la danse é parfoi mal vu, é pendan se temp il y zen a ki créve de faim,
I bet you did! Tipping wars are very common in Egyptian culture - the table who tips the dancer the most money is thought to be the richest table in the restaurant.
this girl is a good dancer but she needs a little more soul, she has great technique but she needs more of her own personality to show off on her dance otherwise she winds up looking just like her teacher, Jillina!
more soul? she has beautiful feeling behind her dance. How can you see this and say it is without soul? Watch her face and her eyes. In fact, her moves could be a bit sharper...but she is full of soul and feeling. I think that a dancer who feels the music, like she obviously does, is better than a stiff robot with perfect technique.
But what is the proper way to collect the money without looking bad?

Hmm. I just thought of something - I wonder if it would be easy to slip on all of the dollar bills?
And, you have to wonder if people go to the bank to get stacks of dollar bills before going to the restaurant! :P

Wonderful! Why dance to a CD when there's obviously a band there? The costume (especially the skirt) is fabulous!!!

so who picks up the money after she finishes her show? doesn't it look tacky to pick money off the ground after someone threw it at you?

And more than likely the dancer does not get to keep the money, that money usually goes to the owner!
Shakti00 3 years ago
No, no. This depends upon the venue and the negotiations.
When dancing with CD, all the tips should be for the dancer. The owner isn't dancing out there and chances are he's not paying her enough anyway.
When dancing with the band the tips are split either dancer/band or dancer/band/house.

They´re tipping - that´s the money the waiter is throwing at the dancer and then she thanks to the particular table.
